a 10 pound weight for a 1" bench press bar fits perfectly on the shaft and really helps it dig in.

It’s not meant to be a full blown tiller. It’s a cultivator. It’s only meant to break up the top layer of soil. Also if you drag it instead of walk behind it it works much better

I’m using it to break up unbroken sod. I couldn’t get anywhere with it at first either, but if you switch the inner tines (B and C) so B is on the left and C is on the right, it doesn’t have a problem. It’s figure 8/page 8 in the instruction manual

I just bought attachment. I used it for 5 minutes on hard dirt and weeds. I saved tons by not buying a gas tiller for my small jobs.

I've had this about four months and have found it to be an aggressive and powerful rig. kzbin.infoUgkxjo0FLo5z3Y_qUcT3vSlOqpMaMdFjvsXa I've used several others in the past and the Sun Joe surpasses these, easily. I note that several people have commented that it bounces on rocky and compacted soil. I believe that would be the case with all tillers - the ground does need to be "broken", either with a larger tractor type unit or with a shovel, and rocks need to be removed. I'm living on a Pike silt loam here in the midwest and the Sun Joe turns my garden to bug dust in two quick passes. I use a technique where I do a short 2 foot run then pull it back and let it go over it again.

This type of tiller is great for going between rows in a planted garden for weed control or flower beds in spring , not so much for fresh tilling

That's why it's called a "cultivator" and not a "tiller".

Take two bricks and bolt them onto the top. The added weight makes it 5X better and less work on you.

@@ravmok846 very much so. Most tillers have the engine at the bottom. This has no weight down there so it would bounce around like crazy.

I wouldn't say "it doesn't do a good job" as to say it it was made for it lol. It's only a 40v whacker with an extension. Yes it's made to break up smaller and probably lighter dirt. Works PERFECT for gardens yes, but trying to break year old sod of course that won't do a good job but can't put that on the tool in this case. It's built to whack and edge, not really made to dig but it really exceed my expectations just on this alone because this would make a good separator imho to do that, take the mower with the bag and pick up the grass.... reseed

Need to know how long the battery life is. Need to know how much grass you are able to remove on one battery charge. The tiller is pretty tiny. Compared to a slightly large & heavier tiller, what would you recommend?

I believe it good for keeping a garden clean but the bigger one to break up the ground.

Not very well. It doesn't have enough weight to really dig out sod and mulch it up

It's a "cultivator" and not a "tiller". It's only good for already-loose soil with only maybe 1/2 inch rocks at the biggest. Anything else and this will be a disappointment.

Depends on the pole saw you have, if it’s the 18 volt 8 inch chainsaw pole saw, then no. If it’s any of the “expand it”models with the connection style he shows, it will.
