I picked up one for $299, $100 off reg price at Home Depot. I already had some of their 18v tools so might as well look at the track saw. This allows me to break down full sheets of plywood without fighting for my life with the table saw. I have a 3 in sheet of foam insulation I use on my Kreg Table and saw horse as a sacrificial surface makes it easy to make rip cuts on full sheets.

I use ryobi professionally everyday. I figured out a long time ago I was buying the hype of the other brands . There tools work well enough and a good carpenter can use anything . They aren’t forever tools but who cares about every 5 yrs there’s always something newer , faster , better . I find ryobi is perfect in most cases and i can make 100,000 with them and if they break or wear out i throw them away and buy new ones . If they come out with the latest I buy it . Thanks for video . I’m very happy about this saw and will be buying that to save my back from humping plywood to a table saw . So nice 👍

Eh, I bought a corded heavy duty drill from Ryobi... It caught on fire on first use. It smelled funny, I figured it was first time use smell, but then it was full on 1" flames. At work, as an electrician, Rigid and Ryobi battery tools last less than a year driving screws in anchors (300-1000/day depending on the person and day) and occasional less than 1" holes. Makita lasted 18-36 months, and Milwaukee later 4 years plus. 500 set of each were purchased by the owner, with around 150 to 220 workers using them.
@paulp.l.48692 жыл бұрын
@Rational Viking What I like most about Makita is that they have specialized tools for many trades. Makita is in everything. Milwaukee, my brand, doesn't do woodworking as well as other brands. I have corded DeWalt tools, they are the staples in many trades. Anything you don't use daily, or even monthly, should be corded. The reasoning is it will last forever, and isn't dependant on a battery platform. Makita has pulled a fast one on batteries recently. They haven't changed the serial of their 18v batteries, but they added a plastic pin. This prevents older tools to use the newer batteries. Do not break that plastic piece, there is a protection issue, they will melt the boards inside. This happened to my brother in law, a carpenter. The batteries were compatible with his older drills, but not with any cutting tools that were bought all together. This battery issue can happen with any manufacturer, sometimes it's the while line that changes, and sometimes it's a hidden change.

I appreciate a review that approaches things from a practical angle. There are things about this that I'm not nuts about, and there are better track saws. But I got this refurbished for $273. The battery alone is worth almost half that, and I have other tools from them. I'll use it to break down plywood now and then, and it's a great deal for that. When and if I need more, I'll look at something else.

As someone that uses plunge saws more than table saws I'm not too excited about this. Those joined tracks are rarely perfectly straight and there's a lot of fragile looking bits. BUT I think if more homeowners and DIYs give it a shot they'll find it a much less intimidating than a table saw and they can still get quite a few of the same tasks accomplished. So I'm glad they brought it to market. The Kreg saw looks to be better made for the same price but of course they don't make a cordless tool and probably never will.

Bought this two weeks ago and already took it back. It cuts ok but so many corners were cut to get the cost down yet the saw is not much cheaper than a Makita. I'd strongly suggest either waiting till you have enough for a Makita or Fest, or if you want a cheap option now getting the Wen (whose tracks are compatible with Makita and Festool) and upgrading the saw in the future. Ryobi tracks only work with Ryobi and the rest of the saw is the same if not less quality of the Wen (I have that one too)

Yes, tool snobs exist, as they do in every vocation. But sometimes people simply want to save their money, add a bit more to it and buy a tool that goes in their battery line they are already heavily invested in or simply want a brand they trust. Maybe they've tried "budget friendly" tools (as I have) and are consistently disappointed in their performance and/or longevity. I know several people (relatives) who exclusively buy Ryobi simply because it is cheap and every single time I'm helping them on a project at their home, I have to bring my tools because theirs flat out won't get the job done in an efficient manner, so that makes me very cautious on considering anything Ryobi.

In my early days as a commercial electrician I bought a few ryobi tools pre green era. Had my drill fall fall off a 30 foot roof and hit concrete and skid another ten plus feet. All that happened was the battery popped off and a few scratches. I upgraded to rigid (was no upgrade except for price) and dropped by drill off a 8 foot ladder into carpet and it literally broke into a dozen pieces. Between that crap build quality and the issues with their batteries at the time which couldn't be resolved at home depot and had to be mailed off for warranty service taking six weeks I sold my other rigid stuff and haven't touched them since. Defective batteries that can't be exchanged in store means no work, that pretty much killed ridgid on job sites for years. I'm switching to makita for most battery tools but this ryobi track saw might be worth getting for my needs at least for now given the price of the makita track saw.

If I can't have a couple small holes in the plywood I can clamp it. I put the shoe of my saw against the bar and I get a perfect straight cut. I can use any saw I just have to adjust the distance from the cut line depending on the saw I'm using. I think the bar probably cost $30. I'm sure I must be missing something here. In my experience their tools are fine, but personally I’ve had no luck with their battery platform. Maybe I’ve just been unlucky and have gotten the exception and just got lemons but I don’t have the kinda budget to keep trying them out so I’ll be sticking to my save up a little longer and get a brand who hasn’t let me down and basically landed several hundreds of dollars of tools completely useless cause they got no juice.
@TheCharleseye2 жыл бұрын
I'd say that's definitely bad luck. I have 19 Ryobi batteries ranging from 1.3Ah standard to 9Ah HP. I've had problems with exactly two of them and they were both 4Ah standard batteries that I got during the last Ryobi Days sale. One is completely dead and the other is hit or miss. 17 out of 19 is pretty good, considering how wildly the internals vary between the batteries I have.
@Dragonmage9672 жыл бұрын
@@TheCharleseye Yeah, I mean I had several tools on their 40v outdoor line and they worked plenty well enough but within a year and about a week between them both they just stopped taking a charge and no matter which charger I tried both of them just were dead and that was 500 with just those two tools. I think I got a hundred for the pair when I sold them because it was more than nothing and I wasn't about to drop another 150 on them after that. But I also got burned on their 20v line too as I got a set as a kit and both batteries died within 6 months of each other and both within 2 years of getting them. I will admit I may have just had the crappest luck there and their tools could be fine but that is a hard pill to swallow after that many burns in a row.

I was wondering about that. Good to hear someone had a positive experience with them. Do you have a lot of experience with other track saws? I'm still on the fence about what to buy. Will be doing remodeling and some building, but not professional. Still considering festool because I figure resell value should be fairly high - but I haven't done the research on that yet...

Thank you for the video! If you can afford it, there are only two track saws that are worth the money. Makita and Festool, even if your just DIY. Everything else for now is a waste of money.

Very happy with my Makita. Only complaint is the metric marking, but I've adjusted to it.

Someone who shall remain nameless should have waited until they watched your video before making theirs. It would have been "real nass like".

If you have any dialog with Milwaukee (which I know you do), please pass along a message for me. The message is as follows...."Get off your asses and give me a damn Milwaukee track saw to work with the rest of my Milwaukee tools and batteries." This is ridiculous that everyone in the market has a track saw available except Milwaukee.

My forever track saw is worth the wait. Nice try Satan.

I have a used rarely Bora system that I can use with my 120 volt circular saw. If I didn't have that then I would surely buy this. Ridgid Ron
