I think it's kinda dumb that winning the matches doesn't take weight over the individual race points. If you are undefeated you should be on the top, no matter if you dropped a couple races.

I have to disagree. It's really not that hard to understand. Play 3 rounds. You get a point for winning a set, and a bonus point for winning the match. The system helps reduce luck variance.

I know Ryukahr is undefeated, but he hasn't been sweeping his matches. IPK has swept 4-0 every match except for his match with Ryu. That's why he's currently on top by 1 point.

mrpoopball12 sweeping a match is purely random it could even be said in fairness that beating someone is random except that they both had very even courses. Hence ryu should already be winning. If ryu ends the tournament having beating every player explain to me how it makes sense that he loses. It’s purely bias toward ipk I would bet every dollar that they would switch it if it was the other way around. I also enjoy ipk I don’t enjoy bias go watch there march and listen. I'm not a huge fan that someone can win every match and still end up second while someone with a loss can be in 1st like this. I personally feel like there should be like a win streak bonus or something. Also I just want to throw this out there for people who may think I'm just a ryukahr fanboy, I'd feel the same way if the roles were reversed. Like imagine if say in a mk11 tournament sonicfox won every match but still lost because the guy in second got more 3-0s than him.

It helps to think of the entire league season as one game. No-one has "won the game", and "wins" are just another way to track performance, like rbi, field goal %, etc.

Either way, I still enjoy watching the competitors play so I'm going to continue watching.

The thing is, a league is different than a tournament, it's not just directly competing against a single opponent, it's competing against the entire rest of the field (hence the round robin guaranteed matches). In this, you value consistently dominating over scraping by and holding a lucky win. Then afterwards, you can hold a bracket with seeding based on league season results. And most normal competitions don't have a random element involved, say with sports or traditional fighting games, so wins would generally be valued higher since it's pure skill based. Take soccer seasons, 3 pts for win, 1 pt for draw. But with randomness, you place emphasis on consistency as well, so the bonus point for a sweep at least makes sense.

If they change it cool if they don't fine I don't care all that much. I personally like wins meaning more than how well one does in a match. Especially considering the randomness of the game itself. You can be the best smm player in the world and still lose a round because your opponent got better stages than you or vice versa. It's flawed is all I'm saying. That's why I prefer wins meaning more than points.

The scoring system is used in a lot of sports competitions. It makes a lot of sense. Those who are bashing it without thought clearly haven't thought it through (not saying op is one of these). ipk has won more overall sets than Ryu, even though Ryu has beaten more people overall. Do you think there should be the same amount of points whether you win 2 to 1 or 3 to 0? Because then you have a whole other set of people complaining about something else. This way makes every single set just as important, regardless if you have won the match already or not.

Most sports I'm aware of are concerned with wins and ties first, and consider game or match scores only as a tiebreaker. The only way this makes sense is if the "match" isn't actually the unit of competition here. But if that's the case they shouldn't talk about Ryu being undefeated, because I have seen him lose several games within matches. On the other hand, if they are treating each 15-minute round as its own match, it doesn't make sense to award a bonus point for a series sweep - the points earned from three wins should be enough. I can't think of a league that awards bonus points just for sweeping an opponent over and above the gains you make by winning the games. If you take three out of three in an MLB home stand, you get credit for three wins, not four. If the Jets beat the Dolphins twice this season, they get credit for two wins. An EPL team earns three points per win whether they win 1-0 or 1000-0. So what sport does what they are doing here?

@@naishawn9840 iiPK has the most points, wins are 3 or 4 points, when you sweep a set by winning all three rounds, you get 4 points. Ryu has won every set, but not every round, which means he had several 3-pointers. iiPK is more dominant in matches overall, although had he won vs. Ryu that would have been his first 3-pointer. However, in his division, Thabeast721 has won every round and set, meaning Thab is the best in the league standings overall.

"Matches" are apparently utterly meaningless, so ditch the terminology and just play three individual games (like a series in baseball) and count wins and losses that way. Ditch any bonus points for "sweeps" because that's silly and meaningless. I'm not really a giant Ryu fan or anything, but if he looses the tournament with a perfect win record everybody is going to think these tournaments are a joke.

After investing time getting like 3/4s a way through a level, skipping it does not seem like the right call to be if you take the clear time into account. Not enough matches to use Elo system properly. Also, your anti-ipk bias is showing. This isn't a fighting game or a sport, there's a high degree of randomness, which consistency becomes much more important. Scraping by with rng wins is less impressive than consistently dominating opponents. Someone like Thab is on top because he's dominant and consistent. Ryu can get wins but he consistently struggles in doing so, which is why he keeps losing out on that bonus point and falls into second place.

Gradeus you are beyond silly all of this would be fine if it didn’t come down to head to head no points anyway which is the second round lol. Making all that nonsense you just spoke null and void. Ryu already beat everyone head to head so did thab so they are going into the second half which is head to head undefeated against players they already beat. No other tournament works this way it’s dumb. It’s designed to prolong the tournament nothing more.

The divisions and point system need a work on. All due respect to Dansta but he's no way near that level of skill and also iipk being in front even after having 1 loss and Ryu remaining undefeated. Should get way more points for winning if thats the case.

Im a big fan of ryu, ive never watched dansta before, but this really isnt fair. It would be cool if they could line up like 100 levels in the same order for both players and let them skip the ones they want. At least that way you wont get stuck with shitty levels compared to your opponent. Edit: i made this comment after the second round, didnt know ryu lost the third one

That's impossible to do in SMM2 unfortunately.... There are other formats we are looking into for season 3 though!

How the fuck does ryu win every Match but someone who lost against him is still above him in the leaderboards? Thats a horrible Ranking System and anyone with more than 3 braincells should see that. Might aswell get rid of the match wins all together since they dont seem to fucking matter anyway
