I knew Ryu would do well in this from the very beginning. Been watching him do super expert no skip since SMM1, so I knew he had the ability to adapt and react to stuff super quickly. I've seen him one-shot some crazy speedruns in the past. To go from super expert with no skips, down to expert with the ability to skip, he's basically been in the hyperbolic time chamber for a long-ass time.

There was a match recently shared up without commentary. I tried adding my own, and it's harder than it seems (it's hard to keep track of what's happening on both screens). But yeah, some of the commentators make *a lot* of mistakes.

I wanted to sort of avoid saying this but since everyone else is chiming in why not! Commentary was awful, I understand these guys are probably doing this for free but surely you can get better people in who can do it. They sounded depressing, didn't show much energy, awkward pauses and a lot of pointless facts. Made me laugh when he said Kat was attempting a level that had a 5 minute WR even though it was 5 seconds and the timer was clearly short. Just thought I would put my two cents in.

I think we were trying more to just not be biased. At the end of the day, it's no fun to watch a blowout. We want close matches, because they are more exciting. Maybe in trying to be unbiased, we leaned a little too far in the other direction. Apologies if that's the case. Thanks for the feedback!

The level Ryu skipped at 6:26, all he had to do was break the block that was blocking the pipe and it would've likely dropped a p switch... : / He's a crap ton better than I'll ever be, but sometimes he just misses things that seem obvious to me (even outside of tourneys). @Sam Grotto You must be easily embarrassed to find something so insignificant embarrassing. Should work on that. Better self-esteem and all. You'll be happier for it. From the mariowiki, it looks like what they've got categorized as a brick block (breakable) on my screen and not a ground element. Was the only possible solution evident that I saw and it was the only thing out of place and wasn't attempted. Ryu has also missed obvious things before that were confirmed by the level maker when I brought them up, so I thought it was a mistake under stress. Of course, I haven't played any Mario games, except Mario Party, in almost two decades and I watch this on a computer with a 14 year old graphics card and a 14 inch screen (which then gets split in half to view both competitors), so maybe I made a mistake. It's not fatal, I promise. If you're looking for someone to talk to in order to work on that self-esteem and you don't feel like or think you can talk to your parents or family, you should consider speaking with your guidance counselor. Have a good one!

If the commentators are reading the comments, I just want to say I agree that this wasn’t the best commentary but I think it’s because the two were very similar. Usually I feel like the commentators are coming at it from two different perspectives: someone who knows the game and someone who knows how to commentate. This means the commentators can make informative comments for players who are very familiar with mario maker and then another commentator for newer people who may be less familiar and that is sort of welcoming. You were both being the second one (I’m not trying to insult either ones knowledge of the game, I just feel it wasn’t showcased here). You basically just don’t have great chemistry in this format IMO. Though frankly sometimes I sit there and try to see what I would be saying as a commentator and this is very hard to do because more frequently than in other game, something random happens in the middle of your point and you have to adapt. Plus you’re commentating in two separate games that are totally different and it’s hard as a viewer to not just pick the cooler looking one. All that said, I’m not trying to make any excuses on their behalf. It is your job to be good at it here (though, if you are not paid disregard that). I’m just trying to be constructive instead of just insulting the commentators lal ur bad Edit: the commentator that seems to be criticized the most even said he was nervous. Which is totally understandable IMO. Someone else in the comments said they do do it for free so that makes it even more understandable.

Hey Ryan! Thanks for the thoughtful comment, and giving meaningful feedback instead of just saying "these guys suck!" This was Mr. Gold's first time doing commentary for the league and my second, so we're both certainly less seasoned than some of the other commentators. I will say that I am a little confused about people commenting that we don't know anything about the runners or game. I feel like I gave a lot of background on the runners and their performance thus far in the league. Also, I can confirm that this is not a paid job. All that being said, obviously we can make improvements and constructor feedback is very appreciated.

I love Ryu and his name....they always fight about how to say it... In our langauge we do NOT have an R sound but rather a d/L sound... Ryu you in Proper normal Japanese is just the sound of "U"or easier "Yuu" I remember LONG ago Super Street Fighter 2 came out..remember that guys..they said his name correctly, and people complaned Capcom was using the Japanese fighter Ryu's name wrong ha ha... Is it just me or do they always use the winner's game sound for the video? Or do they use the game sound for the higher seeded player? At the beginning you could hear SpaceKats sound but then it switched to Ryu's so I already knew he won 12 seconds into the round. Even Ryu's early early runs when he was ranked 5th or 6th, they used his game volume. They need to switch it up or have a consistent side who's game sound we are hearing.

I think we were trying more to just not be biased. Ryukahr is an incredible player and content creator. He is great at the game, and very charismatic and fun to watch. And obviously he's at the top of the league right now, so he's performing very well. But this is not the ryukahr league, it's the Mario Maker 2 league, so I think we're trying to not let things sway too far in either direction. At the end of the day, it's no fun to watch a blowout. He uses both, the WiiU Pro controller has to be used with a Mayflash adapter that causes a very small amount of lag that he notices when he does a lot of back to back ground pound cancels.

Maybe Gsa should let the new commentators practice on the matches that get not that much views. Its hard to listen to these guys and you got very good commentators like Altinsider, Unknownavailability, Simply and glitchcat
