8:16 I think it was actually supposed to be beaten by being small and not havein a fire flower. That's why the spikes were different after the checkpoint (that would stay the same if you don't hit the on/off-switch at the beginning) and there's a fire flower at the end of the pipe.

Hey Ryu, i think i saw some cheese potential in the second stage. there at the second escort after the checkpoint. if you miss the box the clear pipe was set up in a way that you can grab the pow and go over the thwomp. then you can use the pow to enter the pipe instead of having to redo

No idea on the first one, but the answer to the second question is likely that that he built up a backlog of content so that he could work on beating his endless record without having extremely long pauses between them. These videos take longer to produce, since he edits his own stuff, so there's usually a delay between when he records them and when he posts them.
