I have heard this phrase a few times on other videos. "Stable like it has GPS." GPS is not what stabilizes a drone like the Mavic Mini. Good GPS is accurate to about a meter. And will give position change data. The Tello has sensors that look much like those on the Mavic Mini that provide the stability. I am working on a video of some flying I did over a slow moving local river, that confirmed this. Those sensors are taking care of both height (upto 29 feed) and position tracking. My only Mavic Mini crashes have been indoor when it tried to hover over a dark area of the room, drone went "wonky". What I saw on the river is that the Mavic Mini drifted in all three axis because the river as a smooth MOVING surface never allowed it to lock visually well. Thanks for the review.. thinking about getting one of these for my daughter because of the stability and programming.

The swarm feature is a little glossed over, but it looks like the way the EDU makes swarming practical is that multiple Tellos can join the same wireless access point. This makes it much more convenient to have multiple Tellos under programmatic control. In other words, the Tello EDU can operate in 'client' mode rather than only 'AP' (access point) mode, like the regular Tello. You can technically program a swarm with regular Tellos, but since they can only work in AP mode, you would need multiple wifi cards/interfaces - 1 for each drone - and that gets complicated very quickly -- both in terms of software / hardware configuration and also wifi radio frequency overlap / interference.

My Tello Edu won’t connect to the Tello Edu app. It connects to the regular Tello app. I’m very experienced with the Tello, but not the Edu version

@@HalfChrome I found 3.7 V lithium Ion battery printed on it 2,300 mAH ... normally we only 1,100 mAH...about the same size, with such battery, the drone last for more than 20 minutes ..right ? Which normally based on supplied battery only 13 minutes...right??

There are many,many drones that are under $200 and even $150 that outclass these Tello drones in every way. To mention brushless motors,1080p video,4K photo, SD card slot and drones that can fly a kilometer and more. Tello are great as toys for children.

Could you mention one? I’ve tested plenty. Spec wise yes. MJX, Hubsan and JJRC have plenty of options. However when it comes down to camera quality they are typically worse IMHO

@@HalfChrome : I have various MJX drones and have taken fantastic photos and videos. However i always try and fly in perfect weather conditions. Also add 4k action cameras to 2 of them from time to time. Besides that, video quality is far, far superior from the SD card inserted in the drone. Drones that do not support or take SD cards are toy drones, like the Tello.

I know this is 2y old. But ideally you find the T1S as you can connect via OTG cable. Bluetooth creates delay and frame hitter due to being 2.4gHz.

Ok so you fly the tello for a 100 hours and you spend another 100 hours learning how to program it. Then you get another drone. At that point you cannot fly because the tello flies itself. And you cannot program anything else but the tello because tello has a completely proprietary programming environment. So the knowledge you gained is not usable for other drones. You want to learn about drones, build something by yourself. You want to program, install iNav. Or you want to just fly, get a tinywhoop.

No. That isn’t accurate at all. You can program it in Scratch, Python or Swift. These are common coding languages used with other drones as well as other things that you can program. It is a teaching tool and a very good one at that. Totally different than a whoop

Siamect I’m not a big fan of the Tello drone myself, however Swift is hardly a proprietary programming language. The examples he gave in this video didn’t demonstrate Swift. I think the Tello has its place for someone who plans on eventually flying something like a DJI drone, or maybe as a trainer drone for a child. A tiny whoop would likely frustrate a total beginner to the point where they give up completely, whereas this will get them hungry to take it to the next level.

@@HalfChrome You cannot program this drone at all! Here is why and it should be obvious if you read the manual about the so called SDK which actually is not even an SDK at all. The drone is not programmable! The only thing you can do is to give it direct commands by sending text to a UDP port over wifi. The program that you write is executed on the computer or tablet, not in the drone itself. And you can use any language you want to do it, but it will never program the drone! On top of this the drone will land if you stop sending commands so you cannot even load the command into the memory of the drone! You need to send them while the drone is flying... The flight controller is pure proprietary software and hardware and deserves very little appreciation with that in mind that you can buy hundreds of different flight controllers from different suppliers costing very little. Those ones that are fully documented and can run many different open source software. So the tello doesn't contribute with any knowledge how the drone actually works. It just limits the possibilities for the user. The command set is very limited and the Tello is to my knowledge the only drone that use this protocol, which is a shame because there are open protocols for example MSP that are used by many other flight controller firmware. There are no possibility to do anything about performance, stability, sensitivity to stick input. No possibility to alter the way the vision systems works. No possibility to alter the way the ground sensors work or even monitor them. Nothing! Which is a shame because those ground sensors are actually the only thing on this drone worth studying. The lack of a GPS, makes the navigation very limited, and GPS modules are cheap today even for good ones, so there is no reason to why they wouldn't add one.

It just receives limited commands from whatever is sending it... it's just listening to a UDP port. So there is no language... You statement that a tiny whoop would "likely frustrate a total beginner to the point where they give up completely" is pretty weird. Every drone pilot is a beginner at some point so if it was true we would not have anyone flying tiny whoops and no one would fly any racing or freestyle drones either. I started with a 5 inch freestyle drone and yes a crashed while I learned... That's just normal. We ride bicycles... right?
