It is kinda hilarious watching this comparison when back in 2017 the 7700k was supposedly not good for gaming anymore and the 1800x was future proof yet 3 years later and the 3300x - basically the 7700k is destroying their flagship cpu in games with far less cores.

i recently upgraded from a 1700 to an r5 3600, and was expecting a nice performance bump, especially at stock clocks, however, i tried OC the r5 3600 and managed to get it up to an eye watering 4.7 ghz all core, but not stable, in the end my chip seems to be god level, currently, the sweet spot right now i have it at 4.6ghz all core at 1.34v, thats nearly 400mhz performance uplift from stock maximum frequencies using PBO, silicon quality for ryzen 2nd gen seems to have massively improved, this r5 3600 scores a cinebench r15 score of 1860 points multi and 234 single at 4.6ghz, that is way and above the old 1700 at 4ghz, which got around 1600 points in r15, my core clocks are up 600 mhz from the 1700 while consuming ONLY 120w as reported by hwinfo, compared to 210w with the 1700, ive submitted userbenchmark scores and i think i must be near the top in the world for the 3600 on air, [forgot to mention, OC was done using a deepcool GM 120mm air tower]

It's the 3300x that has me very excited about the forthcoming Zen 3 based 8 core/16 thread CPU running on one 8 core CCX. Price permitting, that's the CPU to get for this generation of upcoming games. It'll be very interesting to see if the 3300x will be enough when those new next generation console ports are released in a year's time. Otherwise the 3300x is in a real price/performance sweet spot.
@flibber1234 жыл бұрын
My guess is that console ports will run fine, maybe the framerate drops will be a bit lower but still playable. I think the weak point will be people trying to game and stream. I don't think 4c/8t will be enough to run the next gen console games and stream them too. It seems to me that more and more people are getting into streaming so I'd really have to reconsider the wisdom of buying 4c/8t now.
@eclipsegst94194 жыл бұрын
it has me excited for a 5300x made from partially bad 8 core ccx that will be more plentiful. Ive heard hardore amd guys say we will need more than 4 cores to game because of consoles since the ps3 released, and its still bullshit. By the time devs push the consoles to their limit, a new quad core will make mincemeat of the 8 cores of today, just like ps3 era, just like ps4 era. i can still game and stream on a 4c/8t thats 5 years old and rarely see 70% usage. ill be getting another 4c./8t and laughing at the fools who buy into the marketing. just like i have been for years now.

@@eclipsegst9419 I agree CPU performance usually is overrated when it comes to games. Usually there's a minimum you need and beyond that it doesn't gain one much because the GPU is almost always the bottleneck for high end games. There's a real rumor/leak of a "5300x" for ~$220 coming early next year. Though I've recently read that there's a lot of unexpected demand for AMD 7nm CPUs and console chips which might push that date farther into 2021 or increase its selling price.
@eclipsegst94194 жыл бұрын
@@Castaa 220 is a fair price I guess, that's what scalped 3300x are going for. But it was supposed to be 120.. I suppose it will depend if Intel will swallow their pride and sell an unlocked i3 11th gen or not. If Intel keeps the i3 locked to protect their pride then AMD is a no brainer. I'm just kinda torn about letting go of my 5775c. I personally think SkyLake was a downgrade since it didn't include Broadwells 128mb L4 EDRAM. My 5775c outperforms 7700K in quite a few memory speed intensive games at a lower clockspeed. EDRAM+DDR3 2400 has lower latency than most DDR4 that isn't overclocked to the max. I really wish either company would bring this technology back. AMD in particular would benefit since memory latency has held them back for awhile now. Getting stuck on SkyLake I feel was karma slapping Intel for removing technology form their chips to lower costs.

You've made the right choice w/ Rise of the Tomb Raider. The Soviet Installation area is very CPU intensive, and my Ryzen 3 2200g doesn't hold 60fps even at 100% usage. Hope the 3300x I've bought fixes it.

The ideal (right now and for nextgen) would be to have more IPC in a Processor with 6C/12T, For example R5 3600/3600X/i5 10400/10400F or next R5 5600/5600X.....right now the i5 10400 / 10400F is a much better buy than an R5 2600 or the R3 3300X itself. ive never seen over 72% usage on that game, and that game has terrible npc optimization anyways. the rest of the game usage is maybe 35% max and i have a 5775c at 4.0ghz. quad core with hyperthreading is still the ideal gaming cpu and will be for the forseeable future. its cheaper to upgrade your quad core more often than to buy into an 8 core. 6 is probably good if you do a lot of multitasking. cpu usage has really not increased much in the last 10 years. games can do all the processes we want of them, its just the graphics that they keep upping.

Awesome test, the ryzen 1700 is aging well. I saw hardware unboxed revisit and the the ryzen 1700 outperforms the 7700k in almost everything except gaming. The ryzen 1700 performs great when overclocked to 3.9ghz and ram timings tightened. Overall I am still happy with mine. Sure I can throw in a 3900x but I don't feel too. Not really. With all the hustle of selling/buying/testing just to get an average increase of 5-7% in gaming and 8 logical processors less make it not worth it. Better invest in a GPU for the performance increase and check to see if you have enabled d.o.c.p for your ram.

From years of using the 1700, turning off SMT isn't worth it, unless you are looking for like an extra 100MHz overclock or something. For example, my 1700 with SMT off at 4GHz (a 1GHz overclock from stock) barely matches my stock 1700 with SMT on in Cinebench R15. It's not gaming but still.

hopefully the 5300x will be alot more avaliable since it will be made of leftover ccx that have bad cores instead of being made of one perfect 4 core ccx that amd would rather sell at a higher margin in an 8+ core chip. 4c/8t is the sweet spot unless you render half hour 4K videos daily. i never see over 72% on my i7 5775c and its 5 years old now. And thats only on SOTTR which has terrible npc optimization, its usually well under 60 % on most games.
