Thanks! I just have to say, you deliver a more juseful coverage compared to the rest. I don't care about if it isn't on release day. Other reviews works just as waiting videos while I wait for your coverage. Exactly results in games isn't the most important either because everyone will display those numbers. Its the small comments you are able to fit in all the time. Like in this video, the need of a 1080 Ti to fully justify the 8700K in many games. Nicely done! You leave me no choise. I just have to donate. Thank you!

+Joseph Dykes I don't know... If I where going to *mine* I'd either go with a lower end APU like the A6 9500 with an A320 chipset motherboard, a Intel equivalent cheap system (probably better due to more PCI-e lanes) or a high end one like Epyc for the CPU mining. Epyc actually matched the 1080 Ti in income back in the day due to a lower power draw pr hash. Of course the investment cost to get a Epyc didn't exactly help the ROI... Then again, a Epyc + Vega server is more versitile and can be put to work on other things then mining now that the prices have dropped...

Because the world is a lot bigger than the USA and because the budget of AMD for free samples is rather limited. Or the amount of engineering samples is rather limited, one of those. That is my guess. The only thing that AMD could not like about Tech Deals his reviews is that he doesn't mention FreeSync, the software ecosystem (pretty good these days with good drivers, ReLive and Chill) or the better capability for Vulkan and DX12 that much. Those are the strong points of AMD for the graphics cards these days. On the CPU front, Tech Deals his reviews are nothing but positive for AMD, because the product is good. I don't want him to be anything else than honest, don't change anything about that! He was completely right on Vega64 sucking for gaming (good for some productivity though). Tech Deals, we know that it won't affect your review.

In short, given a choice between the 8700 and the 2700x, there isn't strong objective and practical reason to choose the Intel over the AMD unless you're desperate for maximum single core speed and to hell with performance and work done per watt.
@huyucle12286 жыл бұрын
Actually there are 3 main reasons for 8700k: - High-refresh rate gaming. GPU improves much faster than cpu, the 8700k can easily support 4K 144Hz when the next-gen gpu arrive. - Better avx2 instruction: intel is much better at Adobe programs or at linear algebra operation (matrix multiplication). Some programs work poorly with ryzen even though they can use all cpu cores on intel. - Single-threaded workstation program. All the parallel processing is done on GPU, any remaining single-threaded task would prefer a cpu with high IPC and clock

jfhalshsfdalkj It affected Intel for the most part. It was more of a software thing for AMD. Intel had the Hardware vulnerability. Once again, a reliable and down-to-earth review that helps a wide spectrum of potential buyers and tech fans down from the budget casual up to the enthusiast no-compromise. I would only like to state that memory scaling (and thus price on the ram kits) is important for Ryzen and that should be mentioned. People watching this video should be made aware that paying $100 less for a cheap DDR4 kit (2400mhz for example) instead of a more expensive 3200mhz CL14,15,16 Kit is a gigantic mistake, very diferent from an INTEL platform people are used to. Apart from that, good video thanks.

The 8700k will crush the ryzen when overclocked, what a K version is meant for. I find this biased.
@bradford58336 жыл бұрын
Single-Threaded performance is very important, especially if you are doing gaming. Most games will only use 1 or 2 cores, at most. Maybe a handful that use more than 2 cores. So if you are looking to game the i7 shines beautifully. But if you are using mostly Adobe or other types of programs that utilize all cores/threads then Ryzen might be a better choice. Especially if you can't afford those shiny i9's. Although the 32 core TR chips coming out are going to blow away any programs that utilize multi-core/threads and probably price out anything Intel (at least core to core) can offer. Another thing to note is that if you stream, it makes more sense to have an Intel based gaming PC (i7-8xxx series) and have it output to an AMD TR based stream PC where you can do all of video processing on the AMD machine more efficiently than you could with an equivalently priced Intel proc. It reminds me back in the days when multi-core CPU's first started to hit mainstream and how nothing would really utilize them, even today unless you are using programs specifically designed to utilize 6 cores/12 threads (such as MPI or parallel processing) most of those cores are never going to be used in the life of the machine.

Ryzen+ make all Intel CPU south of 8700k obsolete already lol, just like Ryzen did to Kaby Lake.
@Tropicocitwo6 жыл бұрын
That's stretching the truth a bit, if you're a gamer and you play multiplayer games (especially MMO games), you'll actually get better framerates with the 8 series as they clock higher per core, and core speed is everything in those games (plus a lot of other genres). For anything outside gaming, Ryzen has indeed raised the bar greatly.
@Tropicocitwo6 жыл бұрын
I should add to that, while overclocking results from Tech Deals aren't out yet, the Ryzen literally cannot OC for gaming. You actually have to give up the lower turbo-boosted single core speed in order to get an all-core 'overclock', so gaming results generally put it at best 1-2% faster when threads can be utilized, or actually SLOWER than stock if not. The 8600k and 8700k can overclock beyond their stock turbo boosts with relative ease, not just single core but all-core. I suspect there'll be a decent difference in his results when his overclocking video releases, as there has been everywhere else

All the test are done with 1080ti, I believe once you play with 1070/vega 56 performance would be indistinguishable between Core i5 Coffe Lake/Ryzen 2. Hardware Unboxed has Ryzen 2 benched against 5.2ghz 8700k if you are curious.

You have that backwards. Steve from GamersNexus deliberately CHOSE not to get sampled by AMD so they wouldn't be under NDA and thus could source & test samples from 3rd parties MUCH earlier than if they'd gone with the official samples. It wasn't because AMD wasn't going to sample them, but that they didn't want to be held to the terms and conditions that come with being officially sampled pre-release hardware. Before then AMD had been sampling GN for years now. Though, lol I imagine there decision to go their own route with Ryzen 2nd Gen means they're now on their own for any/all future AMD products as well.

In short, 8700K is somewhat better for 1080p gaming (but is more expensive, PLUS, a high-end aftermarket cooler is required which only adds to the overall cost), while the 2700X good for 1080p gaming but is much better for workstation users, thanks to it's amazing amount of cores & threads for relatively less money (and it comes with an adequate stock cooler out of the box). This is a very, VERY helpful video Mr. TechDeals! It helped me decide between the two. You sir, have a Like and Sub from me!

Not really better or worse. Ryzen 7 is worse for 1080p (with strong overkill GPUs) gaming when its not OC or at least manually set in bios for precision boost because it wont use its power. Idk why, perhaps its related to intelligent power usage tech. Auto settings in default limit performance a lot. On higher resolutions usually GPU load increase much more relatively to CPU so GPU will bottleneck anyway (CPU will simply have to support 60FPS instead 130 for example).

I find it interesting that if you take the multithread cinebench score and divide by number of threads, the per thread advantage of the 8700K drops to just 3.78%. That clearly demonstrates just how much better Ryzen 2 is optimized for multithreaded workloads, and why the 2700X absolutely crushes the 8700K in gaming while streaming tests done by for example Gamers Nexus.
@paulvancyber19796 жыл бұрын
Yes, Ryzen is a pretty good CPU. I think Intel now has a better IPC but that doesnt mean is better for the 90% of the Pc users around the world, AMD is making an excellent product suberb platform and making better products than Intel.
@johnm20126 жыл бұрын
I think it's significant that Intel has only been able to increase IPC by small increments for several years. Maximum clocks have also hit a ceiling. The only place where real improvements can still be made is in core count.
@Tropicocitwo6 жыл бұрын
You have to keep in mind the following: 1. 2 series uses more power than the 8 series 2. Not many people stream at 10mbps, aside from not having the internet bandwidth for it, some viewers can't even view that bitrate 3. If you don't stream at 10mbps or greater, the 8700k will still suit you better than the 2700x, especially for non-streaming purposes 4. If streaming is your job, or your job involves highly multithreaded workloads (not photoshop as that does better with higher clocks and lower threads), then the 2700x is 100% your choice!
@SaturnusDK6 жыл бұрын
1. Does it though? The 2700X sure wins on power/performance. Divide the power by the cinebench score for example and you'll see the Ryzen 2700X is 8.7% ahead in power/performance (using power consumption and cinebench scores from Gamers Nexus' test). 2. Maybe not currently but give it 6 months or a year and they will. Why? Because high bandwidth connections keep proliferating, and products like the 2700X enables them to do something the 8700K simply can't match. 3. I completely disagree. I'd rather have the superior performance of the 2700X in my day-to-day workloads, and then game at high resolution and high quality settings at the same FPS as the 8700K can deliver than play a few e-sports titles where ultra high FPS actually matter. 4. I'm not saying the 8700K doesn't have its use cases or doesn't have an advantage in high FPS gaming. It does but they're few and far between. Most people prefer higher resolution over higher FPS as long as you have a reasonable FPS, and 2700X certainly provides that. Sure, if you want 144+ FPS and that is all that matters to you then you go with the 8700K. In all other cases you're probably better off with the 2700X.

I cannot believe how great your reviews are! Honestly, I think the tech press is often benchmarking games with such non-real-world-relevance mindset that it's difficult to take their reviews seriously. You do good application benchmarks, games at three different resolutions, and we can see the fuller picture. Plus your analysis of value for the money is always done with a pro-consumer point of view. Thank you for your work!

Great video.. I can’t wait for intel to pull their heads out their ass and realize AMD has their sights on the throne! I’m impartial either way I just hope intel is punished for their selfish and greedy decisions limiting consumers’ options with their processors and mobos lately. Wtf is optane anyway; and why would I pay $300 for 10-15% performance, amiright?

Amazing presentation Sir! I am really thinking about upgrading my PC because my parents gifted me an ASUS ROG PG278QR and my old GTX750Ti together with the AMD A5500 are not good enough for the 2K 165Hz which this monitor offers. So I really have to upgrade hard my PC and I was struggling between choosing Intel or AMD. And Now I feel more determined to choose AMD Ryzen 7 EVEN if the i7 8700k has better fps in most games. I will use my PC for gaming at most but I don't want to spend a fortune on the i7 because the Ryzen will do the same work with at most 10 fps drop.

Nitrate I'd tend to doubt that. Yeah, if all you're doing is gaming than Intel is the way to go, but in terms of everything else, it took Intel 2 generations to get their most popular i7 (_700k) to get just on par with the 1800x in terms of almost anything else.

That Wraith Prism is a wonderful cooler for a stock cooler. However, if you have silence oriented build then maybe sell it and upgrade to a Noctua D15 instead? :) 39 dB vs. 24.6 dB, on paper that is a large difference. I would say it depends on how high you want to clock? 3,8 vs. 4.2, that also is a lot of differnce for the power consumption and heat. The good thing about the best Wraith coolers is that they are relatively silent as long as the RPM stays low (good fan blades), the bad thing is that the size of the cooler just is too small to compete with those nice tower coolers. Here is the thing with CPU coolers, they don't cost that much given the life span, it is really nice to have a D15 or a BQDRP3/4. I would prefer no stock cooler but I do understand that most people prefer that it does come with a stock cooler. A little sidenote, I love that marketing on the poster: "Dark mode for RGB heathens".

You mentioned many times in here that the Ryzen 7 G2 is a better fit for content creators rather than gamers but I saw Puget Systems just released some preliminary testing of AE and Photoshop and found the i7-8700k to be quite a bit faster still than the new Ryzens for encode/decode and stabilization / vfx. Have you seen similar? I'm still on an i7-6700k and I'm considering trying to move up to the R7 2700X for multi-cam 4K footage and blender render / softbody simulation work. I think it'd be a big performance jump but I'm a little unsure based on that.
@noobofalltrades97666 жыл бұрын
FirworksYT it's because of the higher clock of i7-8700k reaching up to 5.0Ghz, that adds up to the speed of the renders in content creation. What R7 2700x offers is 2 extra core that you can allocate to other stuff especially when you are multitasking. Adobe has always been poorly optimized so far in terms of MultiThreading. If you work with a lot of things at once go for AMD, but if you do tasks one at a time and hoping for faster renders then you may want to consider Intel. But that 2 extra cores will also be a plus in future updates though.
@huyucle12286 жыл бұрын
I think you need to check with others whether the ryzen cpu is optimized for the program you use. I had a ryzen 1600 which is supposedly much faster multi-threaded than i7 7500u laptop (2 cores 4 thread), but in Matlab the ryzen cpu is nearly 2 times slower for optimization issue :\
@Tropicocitwo6 жыл бұрын
AE and PS cannot saturate 8 cores, they can't even saturate 6 fully. They are multithreaded yes, but not to the extent that things like cinebench testing are. You will still be better off with the faster cores vs more which are slower, if gaming and photoshop/AE are your two main uses for the system :) If you stream at all and want to do so with very high bitrate, the 2700x will be your dream CPU.
@Cooe.6 жыл бұрын
FirworksYT Photoshop is nearly entirely single-threaded. You picked the one major exception lol. Try something actually threaded well like heavy work in After Effects WITH some concurrent serious video encoding going on for example, and things change dramatically. Much of Adobe's suite is currently poorly optimizatized for today's ever more common many-core CPU's. Premiere for example can only utilize a maximum of 12-cores/24-threads at all, and only about 6-8 of those with decent effciency, simply because such huge CPU's used to be so uncommon. Adobe's working on getting this sorted out/ their programs more properly multi-threaded as we speak. Multi-tasking with any of those programs involved though (no true content creator is ever only doing 1 thing at once), and Ryzen's major width advantages being blantantly apparent.
@IAmCjcj116 жыл бұрын
Huy Đức Lê I’m a little skeptical about this, I feel like there is something else that was affecting this, I have a 1600 and had a laptop with a similar processor, comparing the 1600 vs the 7500u even at stock the 1600 still has higher single thread performance. Which also matlab by default uses a single thread unless it’s parallelized. I’m sure there can possibly be more optimization’s for Intel at hand, but not enough to warrant double the speed even if it is only using a single core. There has to be some reason. But yeah there’s also the fact that running a single thread they can Perform similar as it’s a dual core vs a hexa core which most programs won’t utilize more than a small number of threads

Great review and from what i understand from multiple Ryzen 2 reviews, there's not a huge improvement if you overclock the 2700X, unless you spend a lot on an aftermarket cooling solution and even then you have to deal with silicon lottery...i'm really curious about the 2600X now. While I'm still going strong on my 4790K (I only game, no productivity), I'd really like to switch to AMD for my next upgrade depending on what Zen 2 offers. While Intel has great chips, I'm still salty about the 10 year quad core stint and they still spit in their customer's faces with their stock coolers and putting cheap TIM on $2,000 processors.
