Pretty gross that they can only be bothered now that the "important people" are coming. Us residents just have to deal with the squalor and danger I guess. And what is the city doing with all the funding to fix the homelessness issue if they can't seem to open extra beds even in this case?

Man all the homeless programs that are "supposed to be helping and housing homless people" in SF have to be embezzling money, not only that they misappropriate funds, how does the the City of SF have a multi million dollar budget for the homeless but they got all the homeless people unhoused, crazy to even think about!

They don't want to be housed! Did it's a fact across the board with homeless. Did you not hear that guy? He said he doesn't want to be in a shelter, doesn't want people coughing on him. Also means he can't do his drugs in a shelter. That's the issue.

Advocates says more housing needs to be built and wants the govmint or somebody else to build it, but a lot of the homeless don't want to be housed (with conditions). How about those advocates start using the millions they get and build the housing (with no conditions) so that the people they advocate for can get housing?

1dognight166, Wouldn't doubt it after seeing a video some visitor did to experience and show what was going on with the homeless (mainly drug addicts) here, he went into a small shop to get free needle supplies, tourniquets, the conversation and over helpfulness of the girl behind the counter was stunning, it was then that I said enough of this BS, not to mention the overt theft and then finding out this woman who is from a not for profit is teaching new arrivals how to skirt the system so they don't have to wait for a $600.00 stipend per month. I blame our Mayor and some of the supervisors who kept this critical info to themselves, they must be voted out. This is not how you help anyone, this is how you enable them which is Never a good thing. Rehabilitation Facilities need to be available outside cities, they need to be long term, and if you break the law because you stole from others, it becomes mandatory.

a lot of homeless people have mental problems or addiction problems. Others simply can't afford the huge cost of housing. Putting them up in hotels doesn't solve the problem and they can't afford rent. Maybe we need some sort of safe micro housing given to the homeless to get them the help they need. super cheap tiny apartments that are literally a bed and table with community restrooms. With a safe place to stay, maybe some of them will seek counselling or be able to hold down a job.

Agree... Possible Solution?! !! I watched a video about Japan's rent/homelessness problem. Tokyo citizens solved their problem in a way by occupying "Gaming places" with internet connections. These places have private rooms, more like closets, for gamers. These gamers played video games for days and thus, needed coffee, etc. Then the elderly and newly displaced turned these "game-studios- rooms" into temporary housing. I remember one older man who worked at an upscale Hotel and had basically just his uniform, but he had a place to sleep and use a bathroom. It seemed to me such a smart solution. I'd rather see California start small like this. As these people become more financially able, I'd move them into larger affordable housing. Of course, those with drug problems and mental health challenges need medical facilities. Sanitoriums work in Europe.

The city is so progressive that they just let them live, except except ‘not in my backyard’ which means that if you have money to force the city to enforce laws, your streets will be clean. San Francisco: these are your neighbors, your friends, your mothers, your brothers, etc. They do not deserve this treatment to help you play make believe with APEC that your city has humanity and heart. Your actions speak otherwise.

SF can also team up with jurisdictions outside SF for shelters, SRO’s, and camp grounds, such as Modoc and Lessen. Also, implement the CARE Act for court-ordered and voluntary treatment for mental health and addiction. Big business conventions, like Dreamforce and APEC, can be opportunities to permanently remove homeless encampments. Let’s do this Bay Area! We don’t look like Mad Max yet. We still have a fighting chance!

The "voluntary treatment" stuff doesn't work. By all means, increase capacity, beds, staff, whatever... but the most visible problem people on the street need to be forced into it and supported for medium-long-term stays.

All the power to you! People on here are saying they don’t want to be housed, they even say it, yes, but I’m sure they want a home. I said if they cannot keep it clean and safe, ok, kick them out, but house them!!!! Implement your ideas and all, for the love of god, this isn’t hard!❤

@@worktogethertosavetomorrow Good point about some homeless people refusing housing. CA taxpayers need a strictly enforced law prohibiting anyone from camping outside in public areas in all CA cities and suburbs. It’s unsanitary and scares away tourism and visitors from nearby towns from spending more money on pleasant things that make the economy and community thrive. It’s worthwhile for our economy and community to relocate homeless people to cost effective shelters, SRO’s, and campgrounds (with bathrooms) in various places in California where there is a spot available for them.
