Well ofc it is, Its doing complex motions with both hands intently instead of just vaguely moving your arms. patting het and rubbing belly at the same time is EASY compared to piano. You need years of practice to get this good :P

What do you mean by "Kvothe-style mind-splitting"?
@sheavsey9 жыл бұрын
I worry that you're messing with forces that shouldn't be trifled with when you wrestle with these tracks that clearly weren't meant to be played by humans. Just... be careful, is all. Someone might lose an arm, or something.
@dothemusicything85419 жыл бұрын
sheavsey That's part of the fun of these - taking pieces that weren't intended to fit on solo piano (or duo, with Sburban Jungle) and figuring out how to make them playable. And if someone loses an arm, they'll just have to...retrieve arm.

That's really impressive for a solo! Even if there were a couple of hiccups, the feat itself is amazing as it is. I also really liked the intro of the Vriskagram version. Also I have to say I haven't seen the middle pedal be used as much as this video
@BasemanW9 жыл бұрын
Joshua Paas Those "hiccups" are most probably unavoidable. That is, unless you can make your hand go limp, flail it straight across the piano, and still press the right keys.

Joshua Paas Thanks! Yes, there were a couple of hiccups; everything in it *can* be played accurately, but getting everything to go right on a given take is out of my level (honestly, all of my arrangements here have little hiccups, but they're more exposed in Moonsetter because it's less enveloped in the pedal.

You're an incredible pianist!! I would love to see you play Candles and Clockwork. I've been trying to figure it out on the piano myself, but I can never seem to get it right...
@dothemusicything85419 жыл бұрын
Spoony Chan Thanks! In Candles and Clockwork it would be a tricky to fit the main melody in between the two arpeggiating lines, and to keep the whole thing from becoming enveloped in pedal (because the original maintains a light texture). But...honestly, that's a lot like the challenges in Moonsetter, so I could probably figure out a way to make it work. I've added it to the list of possible future arrangements.
@SpoonyCatt9 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! And yeah, I can definitely see that being a problem, and would explain why I can't find any covers of it anywhere...
@dothemusicything85419 жыл бұрын
If you could find a clarinetist to play it with, I think it would be really nice for clarinet and piano (and much easier for both to play than a solo piano version would be).
@dothemusicything85419 жыл бұрын
An arrangement with clarinet probably may not exist yet. I was just saying that an arrangement for that would work well if you made one. If you're having trouble working out the piece...from what I remember it's mostly F#, D, and A chords (frequently sevenths and ninths). If you're playing it with a Bb clarinet (rather than an A clarinet), you might want to shift it down a half step (from F# minor to F minor) for ease.

In the beginning minute, with the easier melody, your hands are often out of sync, with your right hand being way faster than your left hand. Best way to fix this is practicing really slowly, even praciticing hands separately if necessary. When practicing very slowly pedal also isn't necessary.

I noticed all your comments about the tricky pedalling, both on this video, and on the previous one (in reference to this), and I only just now realized how much sostenuto you're using! Yikes! That can't be easy to time without catching the right hand in there.
@dothemusicything85419 жыл бұрын
LeonardMeltsner It's hard. Even after much practicing, I lost a lot of takes recording because a bass note didn't catch or a melody note did when it wasn't supposed to. Between that and some of the rapid jumps in the left hand, this is one of the hardest arrangements I've done.

In the parts with both the bass and highs, it seems you're having a little trouble doing it all at once. Do you think a duet would be possible?
@dothemusicything85418 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this one's hard. You could certainly play it as a duet; I didn't want to because...what you really need for this are three hands. Which is either a fairly underwhelming duet, or a difficult solo. But it would be easy enough to transcribe a duet out of the solo part that would spare the precise pedaling that this requires.

@dothemusicything85419 жыл бұрын
Abby Nadira I've been playing for...16 years I think? Granted, for some of those years, I was young (I started at 6), so they weren't worth much. Were I a piano major, would have progressed much faster, and I'd be much better. But composition's been my main focus for the last several years. If you started in your teens or older, 6-10 years of playing piano would probably be very reasonable to reach and pass my level.
