Speaking of “get to work” I had been a lifelong Canon shooter up until last week. Swapped out for fuji (xt3, 16 1.4, 35f2, 56 1.2 so far) and not looking back. I had rented the x series a few times and was shocked by how much I loved it vs Canon. Shooting a wedding without having to point a massive white bazooka at people (Canon 70-200L) is something this introvert is looking forward to. The less assuming footprint of this brand (coupled with the amazing color science) has freed my mind to focus solely on creativity and that is exciting. Very much looking forward to more signal... less noise. 💪🏻

I've yet to do any client work since for obvious reasons but I've released a stop-motion movie I did with the kids (on this account) that had great feedback and I've been running almost nightly which I've found also helps. I was really surprised to see my question make it into a video. Thanks Zack for going above and beyond in your response. I really value your opinion and your response as well as the ones from Sara Land and Kevin Abeyta were great. So my thanks go out to the three of you. I keep seeing these remote shoots becoming more and more popular. They are showing up everywhere. The opinion I have is just my opinion and I might end up a bit of a punching bag for it since most people seem to feel the opposite. But thats ok. Just because I personally feel that way doesn't mean I think it is wrong to do. The main thing really is that the models are happy with th images they get and that the photographer is satisfied with what he / she has done. Again thank you, Sara , and Kevin for the great responses and of course I loved watching another awesome Zack Arias video.

Another KZbin photographer used zoom to have other people take his portrait in his own studio. He used zoom, and they told him where they wanted the lighting and how they wanted him posed. Then when things were ready, they used their own mouse to control Tommy’s computer and his software remotely to press the shutter to take the portrait

Remote photoshoots have been a real challenge for me but enjoyable nonetheless. Using zoom to remote control someone else's camera is my preferred method. Having said that, using my subject's mobile phone as the capture device was really frustrating until i found a way to preprocess the files in order to make them more editable in post. The one "issue" for me is about copyright. If my model presses the shutter then the copyright is their's. Then I'm seen as creative director and photo editor. In the case of me remotely pressing the camera shutter I can claim copyright. What are your thoughts?
@ZackAriasATL4 жыл бұрын
For me, during these times... I don’t know. I really wouldn’t care at this point. You know? Unless I’m being commissioned for a “real” shoot for a publication or brand and they want it done remotely I guess I’d need to figure out who legally has the copyright. Otherwise... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

OK, I'm *still* riveted. I'll watch and like anything you feel like sending out. And tip? For sure. Would also value another cooking video. When you think about it, it's pretty rare that a KZbin channel can cover so much ground as you're doing. Thanks hugely.

I'm not sure how I'd pull off a remove portrait.... but I did recently manage a remote real estate shoot. I was planning to go shoot my parents house when they listed it recently. Alas, travel restrictions prevented me going. So I talked my mom through all her camera settings and composition, etc. leaving me with just the job of editing. They live about 6 hours away. I could have driven there, shot, driven home, and had everything edited faster than it took me to direct someone else to get the necessary shots. The end result is not exactly what I wanted, but they are compelling enough listing photos. And I didn't participate in the spread of a deadly virus!

On the community page. It’s a tough call on this one bc like another person that made the comment, you already have a Facebook page so why this as well. As a photographer I struggle with that every day. I have Facebook, I have Instagram, I have a KZbin channel that I’m just learning how to use and don’t even have a plan for, but it’s there. You’re constantly asking yourself, “ how much can I post and where because it’s just so time-consuming“. But I did take a look at what you have there, which is not very much because you’re just starting, but it’s different than what you have on Facebook. And the audience for your KZbin channel and your Facebook page may be different. I kind of like the community page because I think it’s a great place to have a conversation about what you’re presenting in the video. You have a lot of subscribers on the KZbin channel so maybe you should include a link on your Facebook page to bring people over to your KZbin channel. and I can be wrong but I’m pretty sure that in terms of monetizing content, it’s going to happen on KZbin and not on Facebook. (Sorry about the long comment. Siri makes it easy to reach my 50,000 word count a day). 😆

I really haven't paid any attention to KZbin community pages so beyond a sample size of one reporting they're generally ignored I have no advice on the subject. ;-\ I did make a start on shooting something for my channel and discovered two things. please take this as an honest feedback..... I see a hint of you trying to put on a professional face for videos. I think you should relax a tad bit and be yourself as much as possible. Yes I know you are being yourself and being on camera can be stressful. Maybe try shooting the video with a real person sitting behind the camera quietly so you can get the real vibe going. I hope all that makes sense. I want to see these do very well. I wish more people could see the version of you that I saw in person just hanging out.
