In this video we will take a closer look at how radioactivity works in the games, by analysing radiation contamination and its sources, how to protect yourself from radiations, and how to treat it. We will also explain the effects of radioactive and antirad artifacts.

Actually...there is a little bit of truth to the bit about vodka helping to deal with radiation exposure. Specifically, ethanol (the stuff that makes alcohol what it is) has diuretic properties (in layman’s terms, it makes you piss more), allowing you to flush radioactive contaminants out of your body faster than you would be able to otherwise. However, the effect would be negligible at best, and only helps with exposure you take after consumption, it doesn’t treat the damage you’ve already suffered from it.

I wish more games was like Stalker instead of the mainstream COD, Battlefield etc. Your videos give a depth to Stalker, which at first glimpse at the franchise didnt seem apparent. In other words good work!

This visual effect can be caused because radiation tends to blur vision of video devices, such as cameras (look on the first aerial photos of destroyed reactor no 4, they're all saturated and distorted). So it could be explained that HUD is some sort of electronic device, and that's why we can see saturation and distortion when the character is inside radioactive areas.

1:54 With the question will there be a visual indicator of radiation I think if there wasn't it would be scarier and dangerous without a detector on you, the fact ur dying without even seeing it but the visual effect from the older stalker games made the screen more blurry and chaotic that's how I see it.

It would definitely be much harder without the indicator, like it already is in some mods, but yeah I think they will keep it.

the GSC Cossacks vodka is somehow an Easter egg as GSC made a game called Cossacks

In Clear Sky, the Vodka is Stolichnaya. This means that the devs of the game (GSC Game World) started producing the Vodka after the end of Clear Sky, either that, or I played with Complete Mod which turns all weapon names into real-life weapon names, which probably affected the vodka as well.

That's the effect of the complete mod indeed. In all 3 vanilla games the vodka is the "cossacks" produced by GSC.

The first time I loaded Anomaly, I was forced to restart after walking to Agroprom because my health was draining fast from picking up radiation. I thought my resistance indicator was the amount of rads I had. In Anomaly I am somehow immune to all radiation wearing the Duty Forester suit, which is the best armor I have found so far, better than other exosuits.

the radiation of final level in soc is fricking terrifying, i went in with two dozen of anti-rads and ran out of them halfway, imagining using rads with an enemy waiting to blast you ass. Also, your EVA suit will break before you even enter the underground facility because of all the monolith and army chopper, only viable way for the level was to get anti-radiation artifact

Yes, antirad artifact is definitely a must. Personnaly I always grab the Urchin in the Agroprom Underground and keep it to the end of the game.

This is the most annoying part of stalker to me it literally sucks your health like a McDonald's employee that needs 20 bucks plus those hog mfs that come out like 120 at a time and make my game lag

The funny thing is in the zone of Roadside Picnic there are all the same anomalies/artifacts, but no radiation is present.

Because the book didn't have a nuclear disaster as its backdrop. Radation is the most natural thing the game's Zone has to offer. Everything else is a result of RP-inspired experimentation gone awry

Is the natural radiation healing disabled while receiving radiation even a 0 dose disabled in clear sky and call of pripyat? that would explain the difference in healing times and other stuff.

I'm thought about it, but it's not gonna be as easy as in Shadow of Chernobyl. There is much less interesting secret loot in Clear Sky but there are a lot of details, and I'm not even sure to know all the good spots. But I'll continue to think about it, maybe I'll make it sometime !

The radiation inside the reactor is very high. I would recommend using antirad artifacts, they really help.
