The push and pull between these two characters is heartbreaking. I was drawn into their drama early on. I definitely routed for Team Delena early on. Soulmates in life, soulmates on the show. Their connection was so raw, real and “messy”, but it was true, life altering love. The attraction between these two draws you in, and keeps you routing for the underdog, even if it is Damon, gorgeous God that he is. Elena was a lucky girl. I don’t know how Nina gave him up in real life. 💔😢

1. that only happened because nina was leaving the show and 2. damon struggled with choosing bonnie, but ultimately he knew elena wouldn't forgive him if he actively killed/let bonnie die just for her to come back to life especially when damon would get her back eventually with time (and furthermore he literally wanted to desiccate for the rest of time because he was miserable and didn't want to disappoint anyone). he didn't "choose" bonnie over elena...he just understood that it wasn't one or the other.

you look at it from a normal person with a normal life's percpective, this is the world of vampires where everyone can die and came back, lines are not clearat all, if it were your sibling they would stay dead and you would have a real reason to keep on hating, but in this world your sibling didn't die, they are still with you, your pain fades away and your hatred too because you didn't lost them, hate is like fire, if you don't feed it it will go out eventually, elena after this point didn't really had much to feed that fire, her brother was alive and well, on the other hand damon was constantly feeding another fire in elena, you see elena loves heroes and no matter what you believe damon is the real hero of this story because unlike stefan he is not self-righteous, he does what needs to be done, anything else is irrevelant, this is what makes an actual hero instead of a self-righteous mr.morally white who is actually nothing more than a naive fool.

Nah, there really isn’t anything open to get into from the leads. Stefan is dead, Damon is human and can’t change (we know he dies a human too), and Elena ends up with him. The audience they reached is now older, so are they, and they wouldn’t be able to recapture the charm.

Elena shouldn't have been with any vampire, but seeing as it's fiction... The point was redemption is possible and Damon actively changed after this incident. The reason she ends up with Damon, despite him doing bad things, is that she feels safer with him than Stefan and that's established very early on in S1. She trusts Damon, so when he says he screwed up with Jeremy and was lucky he survived, it comes across as sincere and she trusts his introspection That's not to say Stefan wasn't trustworthy, but he was mysterious and simply didn't reveal himself or his plans, and that bothered Elena in S1 and that carries throughout the series... but again, the only good person on the show is matt but that's too big a conversation lol
