S1 - Ep 120 - Travelling an Incredible Gravel Road to Krige Station!

On leaving the Moravian Mission Station in Genadendal, we found an incredible gravel road which we have never been on before. Travelling on this road took us to an unexpected and interesting place called Krige Station. It is right next to the Overberg silos and I think this station is mostly used by trains which transport wheat and grain for the Co-Op. Walking around this place makes you feel nostalgic, what it must have felt like coming to this station many years ago to buy a ticket and take the train to Cape Town for a few days. All that excitement! I really enjoyed this stop. It does seem as if the unplanned stops are the exciting ones. A ghost station how amazing only find that in South Africa. The transport not what it was in the past I really wonder if its used in season would love to know.

I think this particular station is mainly used for grains now and no longer for passengers. I wish I could go back 80 years and wait for the train to Cape Town on that platform! 🚆

This particular one kicked off our fascination with old stations, we never knew we would enjoy them so much! 😁🚉 Now it's one of the first places we notice and even look for when we arrive in a new town. We were in Askham in April, yes. I heard about the one and that the suspect has been apprehended. I wasn't aware of a second one. 😨
