Hi you two! Thanks again for taking me along. It seems there is no shop along this route that doesn't sell clothing. Good for them! Kommetjie really is an interesting and beautiful town. So peaceful, like the rest of the area. The Slangklip Pass is an unending strip of beauty with its white sands, blue sea, mountains and (today) blue skies. I'm running out of words, so I will just call Scarborough 'fair'. On my next trip to Cape Town I will definitely try and spend some time there. Thank you again for this wonderful outing. Keep safe!

Hello there! I can't help but think you must be a writer of some kind, I just love reading your comments. Scarborough Fair, how appropriate! 👌🏻Quite a few interesting shops we saw on this outing. You're right, even the garden emporium had clothing items for sale! 👚👗 The whole vibe of these two villages is one of peace and tranquility and we loved it! The Slangkop Pass was a beautiful drive with beautiful views. You should most definitely take this slow drive when you're in Cape Town next. I will hope for clear skies for you! ☀️🚗

Congratulations on reaching your 11000 subscribers, I have to admit that if given the choice I would live in Misty Cliffs or Scarborough in a heartbeat, these two villages are by far my favorite places, in South Africa, however as Sonia pointed out its a trek. Great for weekend getaways as you too have discovered. The elephant was...brilliant, incredible, inspiring, ingenuity...I also always thought that Longbeach was in Noordhoek. What is striking is the friendliness of the people in the shops and restaurants, especially the lady making your food in Scarborough, such energy and enthusiasm. You also have positive energy which I suppose attracts the positive energy out of people too. ✨️ Kommetjie looks great too 😀 👍

Thank you very much! 🥳 What a joyful ride this is, in so many ways! 🚗 We love these two villages too. The absolute serenity and peace-and-quiet are incredible and the long weekend we spent there was absolute bliss. It was in wintertime too, which made it even more magical with the constant drizzle and mist rolling in from the ocean. Those were the times when we still travelled locally for breaks and not hundreds of kilometres of gravel roads to see how far we can get away from the reality of everyday life! 🤣 Inspired is such an apt word for that elephant, I wish we could see more of that type of artwork incorporated in the grey cityscapes which we find ourselves in every day. 🐘 I'm still amazed at the openness and friendliness of people when I ask permission to film either them or their places. Like every place, there is so much more good than bad in every single person if we just want to look for it and find it. If I haven't said it recently, we're so happy to be sharing these journeys with you through our videos. 🤗🚗

Great to hear that your wife is just fine! 👌🏻 Imhoff Farm has always been popular amongst locals and tourists alike and there is always a vibe. I found the shops very interesting and had to share them! The white beaches in this area are superb and it was great to see the surfers tackling those big waves! 🌊🏄♀️ We loved that elephant painted on that structure too, especially that one of the columns was its trunk, too clever! 😍🐘 I really would've loved to get closer to that lighthouse. Your son-in-law's friend definitely has a unique and very intriguing job and I would love that. Not so sure the knees will though! 😨 How interesting that you used to holiday in Scarborough in the UK and we took you to Scarborough in SA today! 🇿🇦🇬🇧

Now you know Kommetjie also has a long beach called Long Beach. And a beautiful one at that! 🤩🌊 Soetwater does indeed look like a stunning campsite and I can only imagine how busy it must be peak season. If you have any idea how long I have been looking for a denim jacket or denim shirt you will teletransport me to Kommetjie ! What a nice place this is. I am just worried about the lighthouses being closed for " maintenance". If this is not again a closedown for falldown.
@DustBugsTravel Жыл бұрын
Perhaps it's time you plan a trip to Kommetjie for some shopping! 👖🧥 It was rather disappointing that we weren't able to get closer to the lighthouse. It was at the tail-end of the festive season though and perhaps the maintenance crew was still on leave. I hope that's the case! 🤷🏼♂️🎑

We have been to Kommetjie many many years ago but my memory about it is very poor. Then we travelled further to Cape Point (I hope you're also going there!). It felt very far especially as we travelled in the heat of the day with my parents, but now I wish we could do it again. I have no memory of Slangkop or Scarborough, so it was so interesting to visit it with you.
@DustBugsTravel Жыл бұрын
We didn't go to Cape Point this time around. We spent a lot of time there with friends from abroad year before last and I have so much footage which I never edited. I may decide to do so one day and upload those videos. These two villages are quite a distance from Strand where we live and also from Cape Town CBD, but so well worth a visit for its pristine beauty and peaceful atmosphere. We had a fantastic time. I'm glad you could join us! 😁🚗

Such a nice friendly face behind the till at the apparel shop. Good to see Imhoff still going. Was another of our favourite haunts. Longbeach...now theres a painting! Wonder if I am up to it. Ag toggie, I will give it a go. Kakapo is a New Zealand bird. Do you know where the wrecked ship is from? Love the elephant! That is priceless! Gosh but Scarborough has spread! I used to know some people there. Its still so beautiful, hope the rat race doesnt take it over. I heard a few years ago that crime has increased out there. Thank you for more happy memories and a beautiful tour.

The people were super friendly at Imhoff Farm which made it such a pleasure to visit the shops! 👕👗 You absolutely have to give painting Long Beach a go, it's too beautiful not too. Please remember to include the kelp lying on the beach, they always complete the picture for me on those white sandy beaches! 😍 I believe the SS Kakapo was a British steamer and you'll be happy to know it was named after the bird from New Zealand. She was built in 1898 and was destined for Sydney on her first voyage in 1900, but the Cape of Storms had other ideas and she made her way to Chapman's Bay instead. 😨🚢 Glad you enjoyed the elephant too, we thought that was brilliant! 🐘 Thanks for tagging along again on memory lane. 😁🚗

There will always be a map in each episode when we travel between towns, but this series is different. At the beginning of Episode 241, I specifically explained that we'll be travelling closer to home to celebrate the festive season and Sonia's birthday with family and friends. So all these videos are outings in a 70km radius from where we live in Strand since we left from and returned to Strand each day. The videos that have been published so far in this series, are all suburbs of Cape Town and the city itself as indicated on the thumbnails. 🚗

I think it's left to dry and the sea eventually swallows it back up, where it gets broken down. What's left of it at least after flies and other insects have had their share. We've seen at Strand Beach that if there is an excessive accumulation, the local authorities will send workers to bag it up and it's then removed by garbage trucks. It also obviously decomposes over time. 🎋🌊

So, back in the day, before cell phones and Aunty Google when I circumnavigate South Africa on my Vespa - Armed with only a map book and a terrible sense of direction, - - Yip right around, from JHB to P- Nolleth to CT, up the eastern seaboard to Richard's Bay on to All days then back to JHB - - - all of that on Vespa, 40 kg of gear, a dog and a 2L coke bottle filled with petrol ⛽️ Humor me for a moment,. Personally I'm a East coast dude... sea on your left going South.... Sea on your right going North-ish Cape Town ? not so much... And that's why I got lost in CT... And landed up in kommertjie, too late in the day to go anywhere else Kommertjie - - - - Where the sea is bloody cold, full of seaweed, no house under 10 million and only one caravan park How much for a spot for one person for one night ? R600 , but we are full.... Then the lady saw my "Harley Davison" aptly named Pop-n-fart, AND my GP number plate Where you from J/burg How's this if I can take some pictures, you can stay 1 night for free Take as many as you like 👍
