Loved it! It brought back some very nice memories. When I was working in Kathu, I visited Doringdraad a few times. I saw Martin Bester and the Silver Creek Mountain band playing on the stage. Once I was there for a charming winter market, which was like a Christmas in July type vibe. The first time I was a Doringdraad, I had one of their famous roosterkoeke with a side salad. The salad consisted of one tomato slice and one slice of cucumber! 😂 In Deben, salads are not beeg! 😂 I almost thought you'd missed Doringdraad, because it looked like you were on your way out! BTW, Kathu and Deben are both part of the Gamagara local municipality, which is part of the John Taolo o Gaetsewe district municipality, which also includes Olifantshoek and Kuruman.

It's amazing how much more wildlife one sees along a gravel road. Well worth stopping for. Love the albino Springbok. So the road graders bring their own accommodation ....talk about sleeping on the job! You guys are lucky with your accommodation. It always turns out good. Seeing donkeys was definitely a highlight for me. So glad you stopped and talked to the people. And then more donkeys later! The little foal is so cute. Thank you for a beautiful and interesting tour

Gravel roads always produce and once again we proved that! From eland to a white springbok to a grader with a house, this was a fantastic road to end the day on! 🦌🚜 We can literally count on one hand (a few fingers actually) where our accommodation wasn't up to scratch, but we were super happy with our accommodation on the farm near Deben, it was fantastic! 😍🏡 Donkeys always make our day and they were in ample supply in this area! 🚙🐴

Another incredible journey, this time into the New World for me, an enchanting place of the African bush, red sands and stunning landscapes. Your drone footage is par excellence. Whilst you were reading the motto about life starting at the same time that one leaves the tar road, I thought thats your motto and then you spoke it too😂...its amazing how true that saying goes "never judge a book by its cover" ...at first I thought that the pub that you were going to discover for us was going to be a "dive"...and then you discovered an incredible place, a precious gem of a place, especially that courtyard area...not to talk about the animals and the donkeys and the pigs, fowls and other interesting animals...interesting re the house' building materials too...
@DustBugsTravel Жыл бұрын
Don't you worry, it was the New World for us too and how incredible to discover it! 🚙🤩 I had to read that motto about the tar road ending a few times to believe my eyes. If ever there were one for us, that is most certainly it! We just loved it! The drone shots captured the stark beauty of this area, which after one brief visit, has crawled deep into our hearts and veins. 😊 Doringdraad was the crowning glory on top of a fantastic visit to Deben and surrounds, an area we never knew about! Thank you for getting off the tar road with us as we head to more fantastic places! 😁

Hi you two! This was a fascinating trip! Thank you for taking me along! I've never even heard of Deben. One can hardly ask for more than a gravel road with such real Karroo plant life and scarce animals like the white Springbok and the yellow billed Hornbill. The ancient filling station was also a surprise. Your drone view showed Deben for what it is: a spread out little town along a road. I read somewhere that the DR Church was established around 1905/9. I really enjoyed the visits to Kalahari Velskoene and the atmosphere at Doringdraad. Deben is a unique place! I'm looking forward to the next trip soon! Keep safe!

We've never heard of Deben either before this trip! 🚙😳 But are we glad we decided to explore it, it is certainly a treasure trove of great stories, people and places! And of course surrounded by the incredible beauty of the Kalahari landscape, we just couldn't go wrong! 🚙🥰 Thanks for the info on the church, we weren't able to find much while in town, so appreciate that info! 👌🏻💒 Just as well I was at Doringdraad before they opened at noon, otherwise I may have just not continued on our journey for the rest of that day! It would've been a tad tempting to lift a glass or two in celebration of life on the gravel roads! Cheers! 🍻

The sunsets are as always breathtaking and you capture them so perfect and just at the right times. I also love how authentic that place is and other places you have been to. There is no fancy buildings, no new technology, no fancy cars. Just pure farm life all done by hand and with the help of the animals. Just like old times and I LOVE IT. DustBugs Travel mission statement "where the tar road ends life begins". The graders did not seem in the least bit miffed of their being delayed at the side of the road. The guest home looked so like a time travel that could send you on your way with a warm feeling as if you left a close relatives house. The food itself said so much of the hosts. It makes the long journey something to look forward to for you and those that follow. ❤👍🙏

Miss that place so much... We lived in Hotazel and used to go do our shopping in Kathu on the weekends, mostly taking the gravel backroads with our Landy. See you next tuesday 👋

Welcome back to the backseat, we hope you had an awesome time in Berlin with your dad and created some special memories! 😊 We missed you around here! My Afrikaans is very fluent because I grew up in the Free State province, where Afrikaans is the dominant language by a mile! And of course my bride is Afrikaans, so I have to step up! 🥰 I didn't buy a pair of velskoene and, since I'm travelling with my tube of Superglue, my very well-worn pair is still doing its job. I haven't experienced a loose sole again, thank goodness! 😁🥾 I got my fingers and toes from my dad and my brother's look like that too! Sonia has known me for 30 years this year and still mocks me about them! 🤣👍🏻 We were very low-key visitors to Doringdraad, but I'll make sure to leave a pic with them next time we visit! 🚙🤩
