S1 - Ep 95 - The beautiful Gravel Road through the Great Karoo!

Turning off the road from Williston to Middelpos was exciting. This area had so much rain over the past few months and we never knew what the condition of these gravel roads were like, but we took the chance and what a successful trip we had. Coming over the hill and seeing the beautiful vast expanse of the Great Karoo appear in front of us was stunning, not to mention the dams of water everywhere. Its amazing how well maintained the major gravel roads are in the Karoo. Back in 1987 when we explored Verneukpan, we were amazed and the good quality of the roads.LOL! I can still remember my three year old son calling it a jet lion! I am an old Ouma now, but have all these beautiful memories. Until I get altzeimers...God Forbid!! You're correct. Virtually all the bigger roads in the Karoo are rather well-maintained and I can only imagine that they were in even better shape in the 80's. But then we choose to take the ones less-travelled and that's sometimes where it gets a little rough. 🚗 But we love it. This road from Williston to Middelpos was a particularly good road, albeit very evident that large amounts of rain had fallen in the months prior to our visit. 🌧️
