Definitely, it's brilliant value for that level of build, weather-sealing, 5.7mEVF, 5.5+IBIS w/overlay, unlimited 4K30, true EVA V-LOG, etc. Some of the reviewers have been holding the camera by the screen it's that tough. There's an article on DPR about how it's the ultimate cinematography manual focus with the evf + punch in during video. I have M lenses and SA-lenses already so I can postpone buying lenses for a while, and use the first-party(!!) MC-21 adaptor. Sigma have already upgraded the L mount protocols specifically to optimise adapted lens performance (www.imaging-resource.com/news/2018/10/02/sigma-interview-photokina-2018-ceo-kazuto-yamaki-give-peek-l-mount-alliance ) I was holding out for a good value FF to use my M lenses and SA lenses at their full focal length with, so I'm glad I didn't jump on the A7III bandwagon since these will be 100% compatible. This complements my Fuji prime set and Olympus40-150mmPRO well.

Dude, you are awesome! Love your explanations, and how you bring the pro point of view to the amateur and enthusiast audience in a way that is practical and totally makes sense. You're videos always answer the question "why someone would or should choose to go in a particular direction, with gear, or approaches to shoots, or techniques and in a clear no-nonsense way. Full-frame cameras are mostly hype. MFT is the perfect compromise format between the advantages of large and small sensors.

I feel that cams are going backwards, at least for video. 4k, 8k, 400MB/sec... I recently "upgraded" my G7 to an AF100A, which I am completely in love with - the all-in-one functionality, ease of use, bells and whistles (dual XLR, zebras, peaking, waveform, 1080/60, 10 bit HDMI 4:2:2, 3-4 hour battery life), and image blow me away. It was $650.

My Lumix G9 and GX8 combination still do everything I want them to do. The new push towards full frame changes my lens purchasing plans a bit - not because I'm changing formats (I'm not) but because of the price tumble of native M43 lenses. I have lots of lenses, mostly fast manual primes. I would love the 8-18 Lumix-Leica, which will probably show up on eBay at half price next year. The not yet released Lumix-Leica 10-25 is going to be interesting. I've owned my G9 for less than a year, it's now selling for 2/3rds of it's original price. So the 10-25 will see deep discounts after the first month??? In any case, assuming M43 does what you're trying to do, it's a wonderful platform to be in!!!

I got my GX85 for sub $500 with two kit lenses, etc etc. I wish the MFT lens prices would drop. In the meantime, I'm thinking about adapting some vintage lenses, possibly with a Metabones speedbooster, possibly not.

@@KimCruz1 I have a Pixco Minolta MD to M43 adapter which makes a good hockey puck or paper weight. The one thing you don't want to do with it is put it between your lens and your camera... I've found vintage lenses to be hit or miss for M43. There's very little in ultra wide because of the crop factor, and Meike or 7artisans make better lenses without the adapter. In telephoto it's a different story. The Minolta 135mm f2.8 and the 200mm f4 are amazing optics at no-brainer prices. I would have a hard time spending $400 on an adapter (which shortens the focal length) for a lens that cost 1/10th of that.

I was really excited at first, but between the weight and lack of killer continuous AF, I'm not all that excited anymore. Honestly Fuji is looking like a better alternative. Great AF, great color, great lens selection. The only thing the GH5 has over Fuji is unlimited recording, some better pro video features and the unmatched ibis. TBH the Fuji lens lineup almost does it for me

I think they both hold different places, it all depends on your style, nature of shoot and available cash not only for the body but for lenses too. I use GH5 which is micro 4/3 for my KZbin videos and creating content for my Clint’s. It has it limitations so as every other cameras I just try to work around it. Thanks for sharing I enjoy watching you.

Thanks for the comparison :) The S1R has x1.09crop for 4K60 (better than the A7III in 4K30 lol), so it's there if you really need it. Also the Sigma ART series are amazing value and are NATIVE (!!), so the lens pricing is not any higher. Plus if people have EF lenses then there's an adaptor already MC-21, which will work even better than the MC-11 since they can also improve the L mount protocols as required. Apparently 60 AF lenses are confirmed as compatible with the L mount by 2020, not including Sigma's new original designs and any Canon EF lenses which should work, too. btw the Sigma APS-C Contemporary lenses that are available in m4/3 and E mount are also releasing (16/30/56mmF1.4) and they're very cheap.

@@KimCruz1 One of the channels - perhaps Cinema5D, not sure, said that they were surprised and very impressed with the 4K60 from the S1R. The S1 will be better for sure (esp. in low-light). Keep in mind that using every second line of a 47mp sensor (with "Aspherical micro lenses" lol) is still a lot of detail to draw from. Tangentially, I'm interested to see if there'll be any use of the '6K PHOTO' mode re-processed as video - it should be 5.2K video in 16:9, or 6K in 3:2. Perhaps anamorphic experiments? :)

Hi mate, good balanced review. I'm totally unconvinced - the seeming benefits of full frame cameras are really not that compelling, especially when saddled with all of the other issues they come with. One thing always bugs me. Honestly I've never seen someone using a camera professionally at ISO 58000 so it really doesn't make sense to me that people bring up low-light performance in every review of a M4/3 camera. I've shot bands and events with cheap, variable aperture lenses and never had issues with low-light performance. I'd really be interested to see what they actually mean one day, or if it's just all theoretical. 😂

Thanks man and yeah it’s really big haha.. as for low light stuff I’ve had events at super dark venues before where I’ve basically had to shoot at 6400 iso the whole time- not a fun experience.. but in those type of events- it was a for a fancy maccallan whiskey event where the organizers don’t let me use lights and the guests don’t want to be disturbed by a smaller led light, that kind of iso performance would really help, probably never go up to 51,600 but maybe 25,800..
