Another great review. I like your footage of people starting at 5:47. Looks like you were just holding it with your hand down your side. The camera is the right shape for that. The Manchester area looks like a beautiful place to enjoy a motorcycle ride.

Techmoan As far as I'm aware, AVI was specifically meant for raw video (before editing). So I think it's probably the best video format, generally, as it can also be uploaded - unedited - to most video hosting sites, just like a production/finalised video format. Although I do agree with your point about false advertising.

Neither AVI nor MOV are formats, they're just containers. So long as your software can read them, and understand the codec stored within (e.g. MP4 / v264), it doesn't make any real difference. And Microsoft probably just introduced it because they didn't want to pay licensing fees for Quicktime, even though that used to be a thing you could download for Windows anyway. Though these days people really should be using MKV instead, or just the raw MP4 stream...

A bit late to the party, I know... the 6G reference is, I believe, stating that the lens system is composed of 6 glass elements. Also, I would think that 88 minutes (call it 1.5 hours) is fairly good for cameras in this range. Of course, with the waterproof USB cable, you can run the camera until the memory card fills up! It's not difficult to install a 12v power socket on just about any motorcycle, or even a USB power socket.

Have you looked at the Midland XTC 400? It's fairly cheap @ £120 on Amazon and has some useful features for a helmet cam like rotatable lens, external mic input, wi-fi and a very good mounting system.

It says H.264 on the box - this does not necessary mean that it will be an MOV-File. It could be mp4, mkv, or avi but still use the h.264 codec because those file-types are just containers.

Great review, thanks for sharing. I have an AudioSonic - Action Camera. Bought at K-Mart for AUD$49.95 (GBP25.50). Also had to purchase the mini SD Card add AUD$30.00 (GBP15.30). I also found colour saturation, mostly with the greens and yellows. I thought the sound was okay when the camera is mounted on its own. However, once inside the waterproof case, sound becomes muffled. It has a pretty good battery life pretty close to 3 hours. One issue that I have is the sound track can become out-of-sync with the visual. Have had to take the time in editing to re-sync them; especially if I'm talking to camera, or particular sound(s) are integral to the scene. All in all, I'm happy with it for the price. It takes good footage most of the time. The waterproof case steamed up while I was kayaking, so quite a bit of unusable footage there... but lesson learned. Cheers & atb

+Johnny English MOV and Avi are Containers. MOV was developed by Apple AVI was developed by Microsoft (obsolete, replaced by WMV) Both of these are proprietary and should IMO be avoided. MP4 is an industry standard. Raw video is something else entirely. AVI has more overhead.

Mat can I ask you a bit about your biking history.... Did you start on a 125? I've just passed my Direct access and i'm looking to get a first bike. A local dealer has an unregistered Honda same as yours (except manual) for £5k which is a bargain, however i'm not sure whether to just tazz around on a 125 until i'm fully confident or whether to get something like yours. ***** I never drove a 50cc, I took lessons on a 125 and passed my test on one borrowed from the riding school. Back then I was then entitled to ride anything. I didn't ride for 10 years and then bought a Piaggio MP3 400 to ride on the road and get a bit of confidence. After a year I got a Honda Deauville bike.

Hey TechMoan, I recently (a minute ago) saw a action cam called the ViDi Action Cam, it comes with the waterproof, an 8gb memory, the monopod (selfie stick) records 720p at 31 FPS, has a touchscreen and some other stuffs in the kit, it's also on the $100 ballpark, been wondering if you know anything about it?

Mini USB is more durable and not prone to user error the same way micro USB is. One of the reason many high end DSLR's use them still is that you constantly plug and unplug them.

Jesus, £55 for something that's pretty damn bad. I'd rather spend the same amount of money and just get a Mobius Action Camera. Only problem is that if I wanted to start moto-vlogging, I wouldn't be able to talk in the video when moving, or all you'd hear is noise... Plus, I wouldn't be able to use it when raining :(

FTRRacingTv AVI like MOV is just a container which I think should ring alarm bells on this camera. It must be using a weird codec, probably an ancient one that they can use royalty free in manufacture. I would suggest (and I do not have a mac nor obviously iMovie but respect the software) that if iMovie is not opening it, it is not iMovie rather a rubbish codec. It would be interesting to go to the techmoan site and download a clip and find the codec info. He suggests the 1080(i or p) quality is good (colour accepted), I don't think he mentioned file sizes this time. Sorry, waffling. The non-standard video format would put me right off this and the need to chase is down the road when that shite bracket snaps.
