In this episode I show you exactly how the walls, ceiling and doors were sheeted. This episode was quite intricate in terms of making cuts very precise and measuring to the millimetre.
For the walls I used 4mm bracing ply, and riveted it to the metal van body with the help of my mate Hayden. I then applied 4 or 5 coats of Vivid white which was a semi gloss water based paint.
The ceiling was completely sheeted with pine VJ panels, which clip into each other. The front wall, shelving and door panels were also sheeted with the same panelling as the ceiling.
I applied 4 coats of danish oil combined with sanding in between each coat to get the really nice smooth finish on the timber. The sanding/staining process went like this:
1. Sand with 240 grit sandpaper
Apply 1st coat of danish oil.
2. Sand with 400 grit sandpaper.
Apply 2nd coat of danish oil.
3. Sand with 600 grit sandpaper.
Apply 3rd coat of danish oil.
4. Sand with 800 grit sandpaper.
Apply 4th coat of danish oil.
I highly recommend buying a proper mask to safely breathe whilst apply the danish oil. My mask only cost around $40 and it did a great job!

Sheeting the van was quite time consuming and at some points I did need a 2nd helper but it turned out exactly how I wanted it :) The Danish Oil stain does slowly darken over a few months but it adds even more beautiful detail to the wood. Thanks for watching guys! Ep.10 BLOG POST + PRICE BREAKDOWN - www.jazmorton.com/van-conversion/ep-10-sheeting/ Season 1 Van Build - bit.ly/VanBuildS1 Season 2 Van Life - bit.ly/VanLifeS2

Very inspiring man! I'm in process of renovating our old New Zealand Zephyr 12.6'' caravan (aluminium body works) . I need to sort out the roof and wall insulation as I'm worried about the condensated moisture.

Looks good. FYI Painter’s tip, never use ‘Vivd White. It;s the most basic paint with no covering power. Going to ‘Natural white’ which has even just the smallest amount of ochre/black in it (you’d never pick it by eye) means at least one less coat needed . Costs nothing extra to get mixed up (well... you will have to wait ten minutes while they mix it) and time savings will be huge.

You could use pieces of that pine board to do trim between your wall paneling. Just to cover the exposed cracks. Unless you're doing something similar in the future already. And.. I'd definitely have to use self tapping screws. Pre-drill, of course, where absolutely needed, but for all of that wood paneling, I'd use counter-sunk self-tapping. Absolutely incredible, beautiful work, mate.

+1. .. Unbelievable! .. You're a Master-Extrodinaire DIY van constructer. .. intention vs method, yeah man. .. Someone in-country look Herr Jaz up and buy this man a cigar. .. Nice work, exceptional inspiration. .. Good Luck.

Very neat job and excellent video, thanks for sharing. Those that are worried about the contact of the timber or plywood with the metal of the vans I recommend applying 3 coats of good quality decking oil. I did not use timber in my build, instead, I used marine plywood.

Freetasman, what is the concern? Condensation between the wood and metal causing rot? Mold/mildew?

Hi again Jaz you can see your buddy had alot to do with the cinematography in this episode. Very effective liking the fade in and out of focus effects and hidden camera view shots 👍👍
