Momoko has a very strong, dominant personality. She drove Genki (who has difficulty socializing with other gorillas anyway, IMO) to self-mutilation. But Toto, being happy to be lower rank, is a great match for the group. I feel like this last pregnancy really took a lot out of Momoko; we can see how her health suffered, and she probably felt ill enough for a while to be able to be finally comfortable giving Toto a real chance to shine as an auntie, and Momoko has learned more tolerance for Toto. They are both wonderful, each in their own ways! ❤❤❤

I think in Genkis case it was the stress of not being able to have kids, and being ignored by the silverback. Tho I just read that somewhere. Idk what happened for sure. I have a hard time picturing Momoko being aggressive toward any other gorilla. She seems like she keeps to herself and only bothers others if they bother her. But idk for sure

@@brandonmatson7618Hi there, I was told that Genki lost status when she lost her pregnancy (with Biju) and that Momoko then became pregnant w/Biju, thereby lowering Genki’s status even further… leading to Genki’s health and mental issues. Toto clearly doesn’t mind her “lower” status, in the same way…

@@brandonmatson7618 Momoko is a warrior , a no nonsense and a overseer of her family Troop .. As far as Ginki is concerned , they both were much , much younger . I guess their personalities just clash . That happens at times with any creature that is part of DNA with humans . 😃🤣🤔🙄 . There were reports of that time with Momoko and Ginki . Long story !! . You can always check it out ( Gorrila Life vlog ) .. It's also Ironic that in some kind of " everything has a reason " meaning that Ginki choose Momotaro as her mate . Females Gorrilas are usually the ones to choose . Ginki had choices and she choose Momoko first born son ( Momotaro ) Talk about payback for Momoko 🤔 . I've wondered if maybe that just might be the reason why Momotaro lack affection and semi detachment towards Ginki . I think Ginki has a personality issue . Loving Mon ,and she sure knows how to chass her man . I've seen a post going back a few years . When Gentaro was like 4 or 5 years old Ginki was twerking dancing for Momotaro ,, trying to get his attention . What did Momotaro do ?! He just looked at Ginki as to say . I don't know what to do then he ran away . Sooo funny . Everytime I think if that video . Maybe if Momoko and Ginki was to see each other again . They would be glad to see each other from apart .😆😆🤣 . Happy Gorrila watching ✨❤️✨

What a beautiful video, Karin! I am so thankful that Momoko looks so robust. I started to notice her health improved as soon as Sumomo joined the family. I am so glad, as you are, that Momoko is letting Toto take care of Sumomo. It is so lovely to watch the love between them, as well as the love between all the members of the troop. Momoko has spent so much of her life taking care and leading her children. Now she gets to focus on herself and what’s surrounding her. I wonder if Toto misses her romps with Haoko. Little plum is stuck to her like glue! Haoko must be frustrated trying to find the right time. It just seems to me that Momoko doesn’t want to be number 1 female anymore. I could see her in a Oumbi troop situation where she is living with her daughter’s troop. Taking care of the Grandchildren. She says”You knows Toto,one of these days the kids are going to be gone and it’s going to be us girls. I appreciate you!”😊

I used to think the same before watching Momoko exhibit estrous behaviors the other day. I think Momoko will continue to be alpha as long as Haoko is the leading silverback. Another beautiful video, it's nice to see them all relaxed. It was pretty hectic for awhile but Haoko is severely outnumbered & all the oestrogen in this troop. Lovely close ups of Momoko, she popped out some beautiful offspring. It's good to see the success of this troop, it makes me sad for the other gorillas in Japan. Wow! Wonderful video, Karen. You probably have, but have you seen the documentary on Momotaro’s birth that Gorilla Life has in his show notes? I think it was edited a bit, because they had footage of her kicking the door when she was very stressed when he was fist born. - no silverback, or family and he was her first. But that seems to have gone. But, she rallied and there is footage of them living together and her raising him. There was a part that showed when he first arrived to Genki as well, but that seems to have been edited. Thank you for another beautiful video. 🩵

Thank you LM for sharing interesting stories of Momoko and Momotaro. I don’t think I have ever seen Momoko kicking a door with her first son. Do you mind if you give me a link of the footage you mentioned? It must have been really stressful for Momoko as her mate passed away and she was all alone raising the baby. She did a fantastic job.🥲 I’ve watched the footage posted by Kyoto city zoo about Momotaro arriving there. I love how Genki and Momotaro were trying to introduce each other.

@@karintogorillas Hi Karin! I am sorry. I thought I saw it in that video and when I watched it again it seemed to have been cut. It was when her baby was laying on the floor. She ran up to him, then ran away and this happened several times, and it was then she kicked the door, or the wall. I can't tell you more than that, but will keep my eye open for it if I happen to see it somewhere else. It is very sad to think that not only was Momoko alone, but she herself was taken from whoever cared for her at only three. Still a baby, so she has been a very good mother considering everything. 🩵

Thank you for all the information on this video, in my opinion it’s great to see Toto and Sumomo because she couldn’t have babies and I seen in other videos Toto will protect her from Riki when she doesn’t want to play with her brother 😅 and Momoko seems to be very okay with Toto helping baby setting Sumomo because Sumomo knows mommy loves her and is always there🎉🎉🎉

Its wonderful that their relationship has grown. But, poor Toto. She wants to hold Sumomo. Sumomo, is what we call in the old days...a "stinker". She knows she has the ability to say "no", and she uses that ability to much. Baby Su, (and Toto), should be encouraged to allow Toto to hug and hold her more.😊 I wish they had more toys to play with. In my humble opinion....all the enclosures should be bigger and have more toys, (balls n boxes, small pools, swings), and pets, like the deer that the D'jeeco family have. 😊All the gorillas are very bored. Hopefully, Gentaro and Annie and another female, will get these things. And, yes. Thank you for the beautiful videos, and care to acknowledge us. I want to come back today to add....that im not complaining, I'm jus concerned for them. And, that if their boredom were elieviated, these things between the gorillas, would correct themselves.😊

Toto doesn’t make the move to hold her Sumo on her own climbs on her back. Sumo loves Toto an finds her peaceful an she feels safe. Toto let’s the baby choose an that’s one of the reasons Sumo loves her. Sumo is an independent little girl an entertains herself. The other gorillas don’t have to encourage, Sumo has a mind of her own an chooses to be with Toto an it’s nice to see the two adult females bond

I agree with you. This was my original thought as well. I added to my statement above today, that if some of the boredom were alleviated, i think some of their issues would correct themselves. Dont get me wrong, Su is cute and she knows how to say no, lol. Im jus saying as an aging person, I feel sorry for Toto. She has tried before to get Su into her arms, but Sumomo has said no to Toto and others.

Thank you Jo for sharing your honest thoughts. I really appreciate them. The environment the D'Jeeco troop has is excellent. I think adding other small animals to their enclosures will really help enrich their environment. The enclosure in which the Haoko Troop is now using is a smaller one compared with the main enclosure, which is larger and has more tools for the gorillas to play with. However, I also believe Japanese zoos need to improve the environment for all captive gorillas kept at the zoos. First of all, grown-up adult daughters should move to other favorable institutions. It's not healthy for them to stay with their biological father for too long. It's not good for Haoko either. He gets confused. Jo, I didn't think your comment was a complaint at all. I hope the relevant officials will read your comment for reference.

ハオコさんやシャバニーさんのパパは偶然かもですがスモモちゃんが生まれた年にオーストラリアで亡くなられているんですよね。ハオコさんの名前の由来はオランダの28才で若くして亡くなられた博士？の様な男性の頭文字だそうで、スモモちゃんの父方の祖父さんも奥様の方が年上だそうで飼育下では姉さん女房が多いのかもですね。 ももこママもモリモリ食べて、トトさん共々元気にお過ごし下さい。 家にいてゴリラさん達の動画を日本各地たくさん見れてとても楽しく視聴させて頂いています。配信者さん達は大変でしょうが頑張って下さい。 これからも応援しています。

Momoko didn't grow up in a group when she was young. So, she didn't get to learn how to behave in front of a silverback. I assume her misbehavior toward Haoko may result in such an act by Haoko. But I don't know for sure. It's just my thoughts. Thank you for watching, Justbreathe.

Kids strengthen bonds within a troop, also all the family play a part in teaching the children as they grow, and they learn through wrestling, not so much the girls but the boys learn from the silverback then it gets handed down so if Sumomo was a boy for instance Haoko teaches Riki through wrestling social and gender specific tasks, then Riki would be expected to to exactly the same for Sumomo (if she were a boy) so babies do far more than just increase the numbers, it boosts the moral of the whole troo.
