great video everyone , your stern lines should be crossed to impede lateral boat movement
@barefootdoctorssailing8567
@barefootdoctorssailing8567 5 ай бұрын
Thanks Rick - that was not what I was referring to... Whether the lines need to cross or not is more dependent on when the good positions are to tie up - if they are close together, crossing your lines give more lateral resistance but if they are wide apart anyway, they don;t need to cross. We tend not to cross them to create our "back Yard" that is our private area....

Hi Eli, John, Really great to see ur smiling faces. Just a thought about both tracks, could u move them outwards another 30cms or so? With the boom squeak, get some dry lube it's brilliant, last longer than silicone and wet n dry sandpaper. Oh look at that Beautiful Flag!!! The fellow is facing the wrong way on the paddle board. Great info too, I'll be completely honest I'm sooo jealous. Love ya heaps 🌈😢🇦🇺

Glad yo like them. We never really know if this stuff is too simple or obvious and we are finding that those things that we take for granted (therefore view them as simple) are often not explained properly or known especially by folks that move from monos to cats.... We have seen some pretty simple errors on cats by experienced mono sailors in the YT world! So we'll keep doing them!!

Hi John and Eli, great to see an episode from you both this week. I apologise I didn't comment on last weeks post as I don't really know anything about Insurance. I was watching you re-set the Genoa with the barberhaul set up. Personally, I'd be inclined to set this up with a long truckie's hitch, which with the two of you, can be hauled right down as the genoa's sheet is released giving you the flatter shape you want for better boat speed. Truckies hitches of course can be double up or even tripled if needed for extra purchase. You just need to remember, every time you make an extra hitch, whilst you are halving the effort need to pull on the sheet you are also halving the length of the pull, so the distance the rope has to travel is doubled. So there is always a trade off as with everything in sailing. But it a great way of mimicking a winch when you don't have one!!! Sorry to add, Shouldn't you look at adding another fuel polishing container/system loop so that when you are motoring and it is clear that there are fuel issues (always happens at the most in-opportune time) and you need to clean that one you can just switch over to the other. I know that this situation may rarely happen and it adds cost, but you don't want to find out fuel is struggling to get through at a time when one or both engines are required in a dire set of circumstances, like punching through straight with high tidal movement. Just saying... Love you both. Cheers from OZ... Fair 💨's and Following 🌊's.
@barefootdoctorssailing8567

Hi Garth, thanks for the detailed comments again and you are quite right - the truckies hitches are much better but I did not have too much spare rope, the wind was light and I was just taking it easy! There are two polishers, one for each side of the boat and it does have the ability to redirect fuel from one side to the other engine if there is a problem on one side - not very expensive, just extra tubes and 3 way valves... Good points and thanks again!

Hi Jon and Eli, loving your channel since finding it several weeks ago in my quest for my dream boat. Funnily enough I had narrowed it down to a Leopard 48, until I came across your channel, saw your incident and the search that was instigated in finding a new vessel with all the features your sailing experience requires. Thanks to the two of you I have found it and my researching project has now turned to a building project. Already in discussions with Rafaelle and looking to place an order in the not too distant future. Such a quality build which like you quite rightly point out has all the features and some to ensure a comfortable live aboard whilst cruising the worlds top destinations. Thanks again, keep up your awesome, entertaining and knowledgeable videos, always learning. Hope to meet you both one day to thank you personally. Will become a Patreon in the not to distant future, such a worthwhile cause which is a credit to you both. Enjoy 😎💃🕺🎉👍🙏

Our wish list certainly did resonate with many people and not boats have it all until Raffaele agreed to put it all together in the 52!!! This year will be really exciting as the Portofino 47 gets finished in July so we can all see the quality of the finish of the boats and then our 52 in Dec / Jan.... Look forward to hearing what you decide to do!

Hi John & Eli, I'm enjoying your channel and thought you might want to try a helpful hint in coiling your shore power cable so that evrytime you coil it or undo it you don't end up with all the twists in the cable. It is quite easy and I have added a KZbin clip so you can see visually rather than have me explain as I tend to get long winded (kzbin.info/www/bejne/maHYpqeGa6mZbpYsi=iVBL7QhUmzGlkyZs). I use this method regularly for cables as well as hoses and 3 ply ropes to prevent twisting. Cheers 1:12 / 3:15

Thanks very much Frank! I have never seen that before and always just treated them like ropes… Unfortunately you can’t do the figure 8 coiling with electric cords so I just reverted to the twisted coil…. I will give that a go and it looks quite easy.

Sorry to hear that PolaBair! There are times when I type stuff in and it does not get posted. However just make sure that you hit the "Reply" button after you've finished typing (sometimes I forget when Im in a hurry) and if there is an interest glitch between your typing and the upload, it gets lost. Just go again to get it to upload. The other unlikely possibility is that YT blocks content that is offensive or derogatory... This post occurred and we certainly are not able to block posts before they are viewed by the public.

Thanks Angus, for the comment. while that mono was quite close that is safe enough because the stone lines stop the boats from moving sideways. when the anchorages are very busy, we often get even closer than that and more with only a few metres between boats and have our fenders out.

Maybe in fact probably you have covered this but as an old man my memory is not the best and to be fair so many YT bers building boats or having them built. My question is about propulsion on your Portofino I noticed a 20kv generator plus you advertised Yamaha engines. I presume perhaps wrongly you are going for a traditional propulsive system, yes pro's and cons you could have a entire YT channel just on this subject I am curious why a genset not a couple of high output alternators? The only con is that you have to run the main engines a little more whereas pro wise you get rid of a whole engine lighten boat save on maintenance perhaps fuel as it is better for an engine to be started an warmed on a regular basis,
@barefootdoctorssailing8567
@barefootdoctorssailing8567 5 ай бұрын
Hi Glen, thanks for the question And. Obviously this is a whole KZbin subject which I’ll try to cover briefly. The quick answer is that with a DC generator you can put in 7.5 kW per engine per hour. As long as you have lithium batteries, so you only have to run your engine for one hour to recharge the batteries. With a generator, the conversion from 240 V to 12 or 48 V loses you a lot of power and typically only put in 400 A put our meaning you have to run the generator for four hours to just get 5 kW or so. We would expect to run the engines for an average of at least an hour a day, so having the DC generators on theprimary engines means just from normal infrequent use our batteries will remain fully charged. Hope that helps. Regards, John And Eli .

What's wrong: Firstly, he is standing the wrong way around. Secondly, Unco George in Hawaii teaches that on the SUP you should only paddle from your body and behind, do not reach forward of your body. If you haven't heard of, or met him, Unco George lives on Oahu and has taught SUP lessons for many years.
