Here's just a couple quick pointers from a 40+ year hand sign painter... run a strip of fine-line tape across the tops and bottoms of your lettering, and your outlines. Put small pieces on the ends of your letters too, like on T's and E's and such. It'll give you nice crisp edges, and make it much easier to get professional looking results. And your correct about using a piece of cardboard to 'palletize' your brush on to give it a nice sharp edge...however, don't use corrugated cardboard like you've got here, but use coated smooth cardboard, like the face of a cereal box. The corrugated cardboard is very porous, and as you found out, will absorb the thinners from your paint making it get thick quite quickly on you. The coated smooth cardboards won't absorb the thinners like this, and give you much longer working window on your properly thinned paint. Also, the corrugated cardboard will actually start to disintegrate and leave micro tiny pieces of fiber in your paint, which will give it a thicker and duller finish. I could offer lots of tips, but you did a fine job for a new guy at this. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the tips, I'll be trying them out. I wish I had done more sign painting and had had somebody to show me the correct way to do it. I always made it look good, but never great like the pros do.
