The newton meter can make power calculations easier. If you have the torque in newron meters and speed in radians per second you just have to multiply them together to get the power in watts. To convert rotational speed from rpm to radians per second, multiply by pi and divide by 30 (or if you only need an approximate figure, just divide by 10). I suspect that most car and motorcycle enthusiasts will never accept tachometers that read in radians per second.
@marco23p

The factor pi/30 comes from: From rpm to rotations per second: division by 60 From rotations to radians: multiply by 2*pi Just as some extra background information :)

He still had the Vette, but bought an NC Miata because he could floor it everywhere and not get pulled over, unlike his rowdy and very obviously quick C7. He said he drove the Miata like a daily driver and the C7 very rarely got much for miles on it over the handful of years he was coming into the dealership with his NC. Indeed, the original insight was a very well thought out car. My only issues is the gear ratios in the transmission. Seems like a lot of other folks don't like the ratios and there are a few mods that can be done to make the car more drivable.

First-gen Insight was designed with efficiency as a priority, which sacrificed most other things like cargo weight limit, number of seats, acceleration, doo-dads, etc. It was still available with air conditioning. :) The car was basically Honda's test-bed for new hybrid and efficiency technologies, so they threw everything at the wall to see what would stick. It's worth noting I've never had trouble getting up to speed on a highway on-ramp in mine.

Boost vs air volume are 2 different subjects. You're moving the same amount of air, but seeing less boost due to the loss of heat from the intercooler. So now you could actually shove a little more air volume down it to reach the same boost as before

@@robotcantina8957 yes it does. About 2% lower atmospheric pressure per 1,000 foot elevation. The IMA motor on insights and civic hybrids have the advantage of delivering instant torque at any rpm so while 20 ft lbs isn't much the gas motor only makes about 90 ft lbs at a certain rpm band and that's a noticeable increase when you're getting 20%+ more torque. I love my 03 civic hybrid it feels quick when you drive it hard because of that extra oomph the IMA adds and manual transmissions are an amazing Duo of fun and tech that gets me 40+ mpg when I do drive it more civilized

idler pulley gave me idea, that you can fit rack adjustment gizmo inside it, so it rolls around. Fixed with 3mm hole bolt

Being completely off grid it was interesting to see how many amps that insite was drawing. Neat test

Ok i think I was wrong about what I wanted out of this channel. Diesel electric hybrid was kind of a weird choice. I like your plans. Good stuff. Upgarage has a US location now...

☕️🥓🍳 and The most anticipated video of the week. I learned a lot today. New measument standards "2 bucks wide". And how to drag race on public roads legally 🏁👍

dare I make a couple of suggestions? the intercooler might be making no tangible performance improvement because of the extra drag caused by it, all those miles of pipework and pipe bends on the induction side. a strategic replay may add some more power. for the ultimate fuel-sipper, what about mating the optimised diesel engine to the hybrid motor-gearbox?
