From Wikipedia: According to the American Library Association, the book was the 19th most banned and challenged book in the United States between 2010 and 2019, meaning it was requested for removal from various library collections on several occasions.[36][37] The book ranked in the Top Ten Most Challenged Books in 2018 (2nd) and 2019 (3rd).[38] The book was challenged due to its LGBTQ content, for allegedly being "designed to pollute the morals of its readers," for concerns that it was sexually explicit and biased, as well as its political and religious viewpoints.[38] Following passage of the Parental Rights in Education (Don’t Say Gay) law in Florida, Broward County Schools banned Bundo after complaints by conservative parents. That's awesome because that means it pissed off a bunch of Evangelicals. Also, since a banned book usually becomes a must-read for many, it gained popularity.

It's genuinely awesome that you were able to take an implicitly petty act, releasing a parody of Pence's book, and somehow make it wholesome by supporting the disenfranchised people he oppresses, WHILE doubling down on the pettyness with your marketing strategy. The cherry on top is how you donate the book's proceeds. You're a fucking legend John Oliver, you're the best goddamn troll there ever was, and that's coming from a cartoon horse, so you know it means something.

According to Wikipedia, Pence's own daughter supported LWT's Marlon Bundo book: Charlotte Pence, Mike Pence's daughter and the author of Marlon Bundo's A Day in the Life of the Vice President, supported A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo. She posted on Twitter a picture of herself and the real-life Marlon Bundo wearing a bow tie identical to the one in Jill Twiss' book[27][40] and said in a television interview: "His book is contributing to charities that I think we can all get behind... I'm all for it".[41][42]

Thank you so much for re-posting the season five episodes. The Marlon Bundo book was a brilliant idea! How many were ultimately sold, and how much did it raise for the two charities?
@AngelicBladesАй бұрын
i haven't taken the time to deeply investigate this so i don't know how many copies were ultimately sold, but it sold around 180,000 copies in the first couple of days and an article published ten days after the book came out said that 400,000 copies of the book were in print at that point. using the list price on the amazon page for the book ($18.99, though i can't confirm if this was the price of the book when it first came out), it could've raised about $3.4 million within the first couple days alone, and around $7.6 million if all copies in print ten days later were sold! (though again, take this with a grain of salt)

If I may say something positive about Pence, his actions both before and during the Jan 6 attack were incredibly admirable. If you didn’t know, the riot was really the final, last-ditch effort in a long series of ploys by Trump to maintain power, and arguably the only reason Jan 6 happened was because Pence refused to go along with Trump’s false electors scheme. During the riot, Pence came within 40 feet of the mob that was chanting for his hanging, and when his security escorted him to a car outside the capitol, Pence refused to get inside because he knew they would drive off and he didn’t want to leave. After the capitol was cleared out and the mob had dispersed, many senators and representatives wanted to just delay the vote until the next day, but Pence called everyone back in at 8pm (after bomb squads were done sweeping the building) and the vote was certified at 3am.
@SomeoneBeginingWithI25 күн бұрын
Absolutely. He deserves credit in history for his actions that night. His homophobia is despicable, but his faith may have been what gave him the courage to stand up to Trump and the mob, and fulfil his duty in certifying the election result.

I understand this video is quite old BUT why the F would any parent want their pre school-kindergarten aged kids questioning their sexuality like this. It does more harm than good! Its existence seems to validate the notion of a homosexual agenda, despite Jon literally saying earlier that the agenda doesn’t exist. I haven’t read it, but I would at least hope theres a clear message of pro choice rather than what it seems to be here.
@weareallbornmad410Ай бұрын
Friend. Preschool children don't _have_ a sexuality. They will not be questioning anything. They will learn that having a boyfriend as a boy is okay, which it absolutely should be. There is no reason why boys shouldn't have boyfriends if they want to except for the fact that you don't like it. Or can you cite a SINGLE reason? If not - grow up, snowflake. The world wasn't made just for you. "I don't like it" is not a valid reason for discrimination.
@TheRealEvilkitten3Ай бұрын
this is such a ridiculous comment lmao kids question their sexuality at all kinds of ages. moreover, there's no "choice" involved - you're gay, you're straight, you're another thing. it's just a part of who you are, this isn't that hard to understand. also, knowing gay people exist isn't going to make kids question their own sexualities automatically. that doesn't even begin to make sense
@onedirectionlover31720 күн бұрын
It would be one thing if we lived in a society completely sheltered from romance and coupling, but the very act of them seeing their parents exposes them to coupling from a young age, even if they are 100% sheltered from any other mention of romance (which most aren't, whether it's the movies they might watch / notice their family watching, seeing couples on the street, and in the most extreme cases hearing some parents joking about them having crushes on various peers of theirs). All of that is exposure to coupling, so there's nothing wrong with portraying non-straight couplings.
@onedirectionlover31720 күн бұрын
And with the kids I know these days, they're definitely not sheltered, and several mentioned "dating" in elementary school (which has totally been a thing for a while - one of my mom's colleagues married her "preschool" sweetheart). And if religious people can talk about marriage with their kids from a young age, then exposing kids to non-straight couples should not count as an "agenda".
