It was all part of an apologetic trade deal that we deeply regret. As a apology for sending our rubbish (human trash) Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell we send over John and Hugh Laurie to say sorry. It feels like too much but also at the same time, just not enough.

@@Rowsy91 not that he wasn’t well liked, more that he wasn’t as well known. Over here we have so many great comedians that not many find themselves in the spotlight with their own program like John does now. John was one of the comedians on Mock the week but it’s a panel show with 6 other comedians mostly on rotation and a comedian host. By moving to the US he stands out more with his British humour, style and let’s face it, accent.

I like Cardi's attitude about it. Taxes are essential to the well-being of ourselves and our economy. And you should take the time to find out what happens to that money and make note of the things you like and don't like and what you are using and what you aren't using. I'm responsible for reporting and getting fixed 4 potholes this year in my neighborhood. Did you know your state has a pothole number and they have a limited time to fix that hole ONLY after someone reports it? Did you know your taxes pay for that? And that's just one of many things you can demand. Did you know you can demand they clean your local park? There's a number for that too. GET INVOLVED! You can also call the help desk for police to secure neighborhood events or businesses, the number is different for every state neighborhood. You would be surprised how much being annoying to the government can turn a neighborhood around. AND YOU ARE PAYING FOR IT! USE IT!

@omgandwtf1Ай бұрын
@Rowsy91 then we couldn't fund the government. Not taxing people won't make up for the lack of services like food stamps and social security. You can tax the top 1% a small portion of their income and or assets and get more money than taxing 100% of most of everyone else. I'm generalizing here but honestly its probably even more severe. So it's better to tax a few extra million from those who won't miss it to help pay for social services, I think you could eliminate taxes on anyone below the top 10% and just raise their taxes by a few percent and have the same amount or more money which honestly would be a good idea.

That apartment tax-break musical reminds me of one of my favorite horrifying gig stories. I was living in north Texas in ca 2012?, and my small city was in the climax of a huge public debate/election about fracking. I had a gig playing piano as background music for a Christmas party at the mansion of a wealthy local businessman/city council member-play light jazzy Christmas tunes for a couple of hours, make some easy money, I was a broke-ass undergrad and I knew they’d give me a free meal, so what the hell. Anyway, after dinner and drinks finished up, the host gave me a plate of leftovers and I hung out in the corner like a stray cat, and they started….a Christmas carol singalong. BUT the carols were all modified to be about how much MONEY they were going to make FRACKING. “On the first day of Christmas the fracking gave to me….[insert extravagant gift here]”, etc. I was honestly aghast. I come from a family that did fine, but I have never in my life so keenly felt the class difference between “we had three meals a day growing up” and “we had MONEY.” Needless to say, I scarfed down the rest of the leftovers, took my check, peaced the fuck outta there and never looked back 😅

@hannuala-olla4302Ай бұрын
@@Wirelesswires That's literally what I meant. When it's being paid, there is no longer way to point where it went. It went everywhere. Your 'cut' isn't going to be enough to actually show anywhere.
