It makes no difference, the problem isn't coaching. A lot of our u20s don't play pro rugby compared to France. We need more u20s playing URC if we want to be competitive in WCs

That requires axing contracted players each year to make space for the 19 year olds and then playing them in the URC all with the objective of winning the tournament- not quite sure how you achieve that.

We only have 4 URC teams. France and England have 14 and 10 teams in their leagues. Ultimately it is only a problem for the junior Boks. The young players that are good enough make it. It’s never to the detriment of the URC teams or the Springboks. All that France and England gain is a bunch of overdeveloped 20 year olds every year, who won’t actually go very far. Our system means that the best talent will make it, and we don’t even waste time with the ones that won’t. Personally I still think it is better to develop as many as possible, but for me it isn’t as big a problem as it’s being made out to be. The Springboks don’t lose anything from it.

We have overlooked junior players for far too long because the emphasis on “ must win” attitude instead of building younger teams earlier. Just compare the quality of the overseas U20’s and then compare the age of their national sides, whom are now being prepared for the next World Cup. They are 3-4 year younger than the “new” Boks who played a very young and inexperienced Portugal , without dominating (until second half. ) SA is fast becoming a a nursery for top international sides elsewhere. Great shame

Hot take, they should select 100 best players from the under 20 groups and put them through 2 rounds of trials to get the best 33 man squad selected from the lot. That would make it much more competitive and bring forward the best players in that age group

Hopefully we can get things right at Junior Level. With the amount of talent we produce at school level, anything less than an appearance in the final should be seen as a flop.

You cannot compete with professional rugby nations if your junior rugby structures are run by politicians. We not selecting players and coaches on merit. SA has been through this with Cricket. CSA managed to not only bankrupt cricket but also dilute the competitiveness of domestic cricket due to their policy of quotas and other BS. The result ? Our cricket system is not producing quality cricketers. Rugby is going the same way. The only thing saving SA rugby at present is the fact that many of our players are able to play for professional teams overseas. All the BS about a lack of exposure for our young players. It's got nothing to do with that. Stop the quotas and fix the system. You correct we cannot find our 30-40 best players because most of them are not being selected due to quotas. Enough with the BS.

The U20 were shocking. Nothing good. Completely disorganised. No defense plan. No attack plan. We had good players but couldn’t put it together.🤬 We need to make an effort to win it every year.

My two cents worth is that we need to expend as much effort in training the coaches, right down to school level, as we do on the players. The better the coaches of the young players the better the talent coming through. Also where does our next Rassie come from? We have to think about that too. Include referees in that as well.

I saw that coaching is the problem when the boys couldn’t stop a maul.A can maul you in the first half but second half the coaching staff have to make readjustments it can’t be the whole game.
