How long have those stock t5 pistons and rods been run for? Any reliability issues at that high of power? What cams did you run on this setup?
@ArturssonEngineering3 жыл бұрын
Total of like old 150000km old rods and pistons that I put another 50000km on through various power levels. 250hp, 320+hp, 430hp, 700+hp. They work for a lot of power, no real major reliablility issues upwards 700+hp in terms of power, but they can cause quite a bit of scuffing at like 7000+rpm due to the nature of the T5 piston design and with slightly worn bores. I ran it at 700hp for like 3 months and daily driving it beating on it every day. I used 268°/9.6mm cams on this setup.

Dude you need a steering rack brace so you can grab that next gear haha, I kept waiting and it never came :'( sick build regardless
@ArturssonEngineering6 жыл бұрын
Dylan Habiger Thanks man! :) What a bummer :/ I definitely need a lot more reinforcements, seam weld the whole front also, you can feel the foot wells twist and everything lmao! But worst part is the differential slipping sometimes, that causes torque steer from hell in 200+kph. That is main cause why I am not confident shifting to fifth gear(263+kph from 4th to 5th) and the roads are to narrow lol
@dylanhabiger11206 жыл бұрын
Joel Artursson it would probably be a shit show but the floor is usually raised about 3 in off the true bottom. You could get in there and add bracing. Abbott makes some really good braces that you don't have to retro fit though. As far as the dif slipping goes I would probably look at upgrading through Abbott as well. I'm in the process of a viggen build myself.
@ArturssonEngineering6 жыл бұрын
Dylan Habiger Yeah I've seen some of them! But I got a full machine shop at work to play around in so I custom fabricate everything on my own which is quite fun to do! I got a full plan on how to get the chassi much better. I would need a full blown race differential with discs from Sellholm, the Quaife ATB cannot handle these kinds of power. Andy had the same problem with his 700-800hp 9-5R :/
@dylanhabiger11206 жыл бұрын
Joel Artursson I too am a machinist :) I'm happy to outsource stuff though, I'm mostly tool and dye. A majority of the stuff I turn out is less than 5 inches, and Al. My most recent P/O for example are these little fuel pump rods. We do large scale stuff up to 3'x3' but that's all moldmaking either aluminum or rennshape for carbon molds. Could probably play around and make more Saab parts than I do, sometimes its ok to put the liability on someone else. Instead of labor you're really paying for liability , at least that's how I think of it sometimes.

What bottom end bearings are you using. I'm running currently around 350hp on my b204 which is still on a base map so I'll be going for more obviously but here in the UK peoples bottom ends are going for fun. Most are probably just second hand 140k miles engines with no history but I want to just be safe and possibly get my hands on crank and rod bearings that can take the punishment.
@ArturssonEngineering2 жыл бұрын
Original Glyco/NRP bearings, even what Im gonna use for the new 850+hp build as they are proven to well over 1100hp on these. One thing I've noticed in Uk when talking to a lot of friends over there is that almost 2/3 of everyone does the mistake of using way too viscous oils(10w50 to 15w60) on original bearing clearances and oil system in their tuned cars. This is a massive problem in terms of oil flow becoming too slow and bad at carrying heat away from the bearing halves. Classic problem followed by this the wrist pin seize solid and the engine hammers the rod bearing like if you have detonation. This is because original B204/B234 rods come with an small end that is usually sitting in the 0.005mm clearance range so almost all of them have heating problems when tuned. Even some original engines using 5w40 you can see colouration and marks suggesting experience of galling. Simply this is one of the main issues with these. In terms of oil viscosity, most often less is more and dont go outside of engine recommendation, they are there for a reason. Ran this 700+hp engine on regular 5w40 most of the time with adjusted small ends for larger clearance, the same bottom end lives in another car now. Were perfectly fine after several months of abuse.

@ArturssonEngineering2 жыл бұрын
@@c4r5on88 There exists some fantastic 5w30 oils out there, know some who use the original GM still at 550+bhp. I have now jumped to using mostly 0w40 on in everything it is like having a very fluent 10w40 with very strong film strength as many of those come with ester-blends like most race oils use. Basically mixing both of best worlds in one.

Full interior car and all, 1520+kg weight driver basically. People have this weird perception of acceleration/speed, it depend on various factors like powerband and where peak torque is etc etc. However 100-190kmh in 5.6 sec according to performance GPS from holding and starting at 100kmh with poor powerband. But the car was poorly tuned as I didnt tune myself at the time and had to rely on others.
