Cyclone Cyd, thank you from Minnesota, U.S.A. After watching this video, I ran a test lead from the ECM to the negative terminal on the battery and the car started right up. It's a left-hand drive 2009 9-3 20T. Merry Christmas!

It is, it's always something simple. This is a case in point. A failure on ONE wire and the car ends up needing a tow. That's very poor engineering!

A common grounding corrosion point is beneath the battery tray casement on this vehicle. I would’ve checked there first before running a new wire. Excellent troubleshooting with multimeter.

As explained, I had already installed an extra earth so no need for me,but yes it's well worth checking that ground (I did mention it)

Have a 2006 9-3 Sportcombi here in CA I’ve owned since 2009. Currently as 215k miles so I appreciate your videos on troubleshooting and keeping these cars on the road. I still daily drive it. I fear a complicated issue that could ground my little ‘jet’. All hail the easy ones :)

Easy to go down the rabbit hole in panic mode when the 93 ECU comes into play. Not necessary in this case. Brilliant video :) Same 93 and year as yours btw.

You never can tell! Having installed a new earth to the engine an earth problem at the ECM was the last thing I expected. Also, utterly crazy that a fault in one wire can kill the car!

Always s helpful. I love your videos. I have a question i recently got my fuel pump and fuel relay replaced to solve a p0089 fuel pressure regulator code but now my 2006 aero is not starting as it should. It takes 2 cranks to start. Any recommendations?

Are you holding the key in 'on' for a couple of seconds to allow fuel pressure to build? Have you tested the FPR? (I'vegot a video on that). Other than that no. Maybe service the injectors.

Nice one !. Have you or anyone worked out how to permanently turn off, the TP RDS on the radio ? So annoying it interrupts anything I'm listening to multiple times during a journey . I'm forever pushing this button off and tried holding it pressed a few seconds with no joy. I'm close to showing the damn thing a hammer !.

Cyd just after abit of advice and or maybe a part number if you know or have had same problem. My tie rods snapped on front left and I've got them out and bought new to replace but 3 times now my parts shop has ordered different ones but they've all been too big to on the inner side where it screws in, do you have any idea of where I can get one from or do you know a certain parts number I can tell them to order? My saab is an aero 9 3 saloon the 210bhp b207r on a 57 plate! Really struggling to find anything and don't really have funds to be ordering willy nilly loads of different ones to try sorta thing. Thanks for you time 🩵

How has that blue intake hose to the throttle body held up? I’m considering getting one but I’m unsure if the 40$ price tag is something that may be too good to be true?

Great advice, my 9-3 had the negative cable replace last year and touch wood no further issue regarding the electrical side.. sadly the car took a battering 2 weeks ago from the tail end of a lorry... anyone know a good saab body guy in the uk - preferably essex area?? Rear drivers side light, rear quarter panel and soft top cover dented and gauged...

Not in the Essex area, but have a look at Hagstrom Saab in Norfolk. Proper specialists.

Any good bodyshop should be able to handle that. Or maybe try a classic vehicle restorer

If you do it properly with ratchet crimpers they are perfect every time.

Why do you have a piece of polyamide tape behind your ECU? Has someone had a go inside it and accidently broke the lid?

@@CycloneCyd for heat protection?
@CycloneCyd2 ай бұрын
@@markvankampen1794 that was the original idea, but I have found that although this tape reflects incoming IR it also prevents the ECM from getting rid of heat it generates itself internally. Ihave thus removed it since making this.

@@CycloneCyd you can entirely relocate the ECU aswell :) and I dont mean inside the engine bay, the windshield area or inside the cabin. It's possible but abit tedious as you need to rewire 100 ish wires or if you want a universal relocation harnass the full 128 wires. And the CAN H/L needs to be magnatically isolated if you move it inside your cabin but yeah it's possible if you have around close to 500m of 0.17mm to 0.25mm cable. As dont get me wrong heatshields they work sort off.. and inside the engine bay relocations work sort off aswell... but entirely removing the factor (heat / thermal cycling) that causes some damage over time out of the equation it is better and it's also exactly what they did at Saab during the period wherin they tested the T8 at Saab (1998-2002) (and had many ECU failures themselves :'))
@CycloneCyd21 күн бұрын
Thanks for that input. I'm not convinced that heat failures are such a big issue in the UK, but i run without the engine cover and also remove the coil cover. This allows more airflow around the ECM and coils. I've also fitted a 82C stat instead of the original 90c one. This has substantially reduced underbonnet temps. Around 65c near the vacuum pump after a motorway run. Interesting that saab suffered failures in testing (hot environment testing?) yet aparently did nothing about it.

Hi, I have a strange problem with my car. When I park the car and try to start it the next day, it won't start from the ignition. To get it going, I have to connect a cable from the relay to the negative terminal while the car is in the start position, then the car starts. After I do this and drive the car for about an hour, it starts normally with the key without any issues. I've replaced the battery with a brand new one, but the problem persists. I noticed that if I disconnect the battery cables overnight and then reconnect them the next day, the car starts. I also tried using jumper cables from another car, but that didn't help. The car only starts by connecting from the relay. Could it be the engine control unit not sending a signal to the starter motor? I've also replaced the relay, but that didn't help either. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks! Can you please help me
@CycloneCyd6 ай бұрын
So,are you augmenting the negative connection to the relay? It sounds like you may have a ground issue within the fusebox. Take the fusebox out, take it apart and check the connections for integrity.
@sariaalmonajed31316 ай бұрын
@@CycloneCyd Thanks for your response, but I’ve checked all the cables and everything seems okay!
