Is it true that Ford said they could only get 85hp from that V4 engine but Saab managed to get 170hp in the end?

is it true that the ford 2.3 v6 fits in these car, fits on gearbox and mounts?

Column shifter. I can't imagine the amount of skill needed to drive something like that
@raidkoast9 жыл бұрын
It's really simple... .. .. Well, At least when you apply it on a normal cruise on the road. :P
@AIRDRAC9 жыл бұрын
+raidkoast It actually is really simple, it's no different than an H-shifter on the floor, you just don't have to move your hand as far from the steering wheel (which is great) :) (if you were wondering 1st is up and close to the steering wheel, 2nd is down and close to the steering wheel, 3rd is up and away from the steering wheel, and 4th down and away (right under 3rd) :) Just like any other H-shifter ^^ It looks more difficult than it is :)
@raidkoast9 жыл бұрын
AIRDRAC Just mentioning that I've driven an old Opel kapitän from the 1950's. 3 speed, column shift. Wouldn't want to drive that on a dirt road, but then again I'm not used to the car at all. xD
@santiagomachado73789 жыл бұрын
+AIRDRAC So its basically a horizontally mounted H-gearbox? Doesn't seem so complicated now. I'll stick to my floor mounted stick shift anyway. never really liked automatic cars
@AIRDRAC9 жыл бұрын
+Santiago Machado exactly! It's a conventional H-shifter mounted in a unusual place, just like that some vans has it in the center console instead of on the floor :)

6 years late, I’m a 20 year old with this exact same Saab. It goes like a beast but the acceleration is a dog. Takes a bit to get up to speed. Reliable car, thank god I know mechanics though.

+Barrett Benton Four on the tree, but who's counting?
@5610winston5 жыл бұрын
Problem with a paddle shift is, without the clutch pedal, you don't have as much control over the torque to the wheels.
Just like mine, except mine's slow and the transmission may be louder than the V4.

Hate to rain on your parade boys, but when you wind it up in the indirects, the alloy gearbox casing distorts and this causes the bearings to run. The inner drive shaft joints aren't that hot either. Oh, and V4 engine is suspect, too. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit

About 50 years ago, I used to have a Saab V4 with a spec 2 gearset and 7/38 final drive (not quite as low as this one which was 6/35) and, of course, it had a steel gearbox casing. So no problems with the alloy gearbox casing! I never had any problems with the inner drive shaft joints.
@janvanv2 жыл бұрын
@@IanMcKean The cases people call steel are actually cast iron...There were both early smooth cases--from 2 strokes and the later ribbed cases....I have one brand new of those remaining in stock... It turns out the biggest problem is the ring gear siide caps... And that is a fairly easy problem to cure..The caps were milled flat and a thicj steel "girdle" was used and well as studs, rather than the OEM bolts..Same like many ening main bearing caps got girdles...That helped on life of bearings and stability but ring gear failures were always a problem..It was the cause for me to DNF a number of rallies including the Saab 96s last rally in the WRC series when my ring gear spat up 3 teeth on SS 19 at the 1986 WRC Olympus Rally in December 1986..Homologation ran out 3 weeks later.. 9 years later the car would go on to win a US National Championship round , and finish the year 3rd in the US Performance Rally Championship...The same car is currently getting new floors and sills..
