What a gorgeous work of art! The new ones are nice, and well-built, but I remember when Cadillac truly was the "standard of the world"....when you drove a Cadillac, you were the King of the road...you had truly arrived. I hope those days come back once again.

Cadillac was truly a classic (but) Oldsmobile was the vehicle that paved the way for the Cadillac, every item that was introduced in the Cadillac as luxury item's were already placed in the Oldsmobile 98's as a introduction to the finer thing's that buyer's could get in a luxury vehicle. If you don't believe it,then check out the history of the Oldsmobile 98's and see it for yourself.
@JamesVaughan

@@marshalllsmith2095 Correct. Oldsmobile pioneered many features that appeared a year or two later on Cadillac. Hydra-matic automatic transmission, for example. Oldsmobile introduced it in 1940, Cadillac a year later. What is the difference between Buick and Oldsmobile? Oldsmobile occupied the middle position in the General Motors lineup, and yet model for model Oldsmobile and Buick were basically the same. In fact, some of the Oldsmobiles had more standard equipment than the comparable Buicks, but somehow Buick had a tad more prestige, even though Oldsmobile was just as nice a car as Buick and some models as expensive or even more so as Buick (Oldsmobile Fiesta, 98, Starfire, Toronado).

When a driver could enter the car curbside through the passenger door, you sure don't see that anymore. Funny how race inspired bucket seats took over, because a split bench with a fold-down armrest is far more practical for the street.

ABSOLUTELY beautiful! And... how luxurious for its time feature-wise! Things like power windows and seats seem common now, but can you imagine back then? Thanks SO much for sharing. Dreamy!
@JamesVaughan

+Rob W Power windows and seats first appeared on Lincolns and Cadillacs by the 1940s, and became standard on those cars by the 1950s (as well as the top-of-the-line Buicks and Oldsmobiles), but were hardly unusual by the 1960s - at least on the pricier cars.

Kyle, I'm certifibly "car crazy", and I love all your reviews, particularly those vehicles that often are forgotten, and don't get a lot of love, like the limousines, hearses, and station wagons that you've covered. And now that you've expanded your repertoire to include car restoration, and detailing, your channel has only gotten better. I am a big fan, and always look forward to each new post. Regards always, Jay.

Fond memories of my first car! Mine was the six window Sedan Deville, also black but with light blue interior. I bought it from our local Cadillac dealer in spring of 1968 for $1,000.00 plus $50.00 sales tax & $5.00 licence registration. It had 30,000 miles on it. Weekly gas was $5.00......and I drove everywhere, constantly being pulled over by cops who thought I stole it!! I was 18 yrs old with long rock star hair. I kept it for 17 years, and sold it in 1987 for $2,000. Should have kept it!

She said she never cared for the back of the 67 so she turned that in on a new 71 Coupe deVille. The 62 and the 71 were my favorites

A Sedan de Ville should say so on the rear fender. Also, this has the upholstery of the Series 62 Sedan, not the Sedan de Ville. It is a particularly nice example though. Even has A/C, still somewhat rare in 1962.

Yup. We had a ‘59 black, two door, Series 62. $4500 new. (AC was over 10% of the cost of the car.) Manual windows. No power seat. Power antenna though. Quality of materials was v good. I like the ‘62 tail. Matches ‘65’s stacked headlights better than ‘62’s front design.

Is this a Sedan DeVille or a model 62? My uncle had a '62 Cadillac that was not a Sedan DeVille and looked exactly like this one. The Sedan DeVille's usually had a script model designation on the rear side panels near the taillights, and a similar logo inside on the dash or interior door sills, if I remember. This car doesn't have them. Small details distinguished them from Sedan Deville's, like power window switch on the door panels instead of on the armrests, and the particular cloth interior that was used. It's a beauty nonetheless.

Thats what I was wondering too. The Model 62 became the Calais in 1965 through 1976, then was discontinued. The Model 62 often times came without power windows and was a base model but accessories could be added.

@@robertpace901 I have my parents 58 Cadillac series 62 sedan they bought in 1960. I was 1 year old. Lifelong southern California car, it has factory air conditioning, and power windows. Mom signed it over to me in 1982..this car is definitely a family member, and I drive it around town for the usual errands. And to car shows. People ask if its for sale quite often. But I wont ever sell it. This is a very nice 62 cad, but desperately needs all the exterior chrome polished. Will look new with some good polish and elbow grease !!

@robertpace901 5 жыл бұрын
@@johnfranklin5277 thanks John. I remember my friend told me the 58 Cadillac year they tried out a new engine that was problematic. Did your family ever have engine issues or were those stories anecdotal? Something else I recently learned about all 1958 model year American made cars was, it was the first model year that dual headlights were legal, so all car designs began designing with that feature. I sure miss the days of waiting to see the new model years come out in September. Each year was distinctly different, unlike today when some body styles can be used for a decade. What's the point in getting a newer model if it looks the same as the one you're driving. At least car designs became attractive again in the past 10-15 years. There was a long stretch of time that they weren't.

theres something about these old American cars..the elegance, beauty, that you just dont see as much in todays American cars. But, my grandmother owns a 2005 Chrysler 300, and that car has a presence when you see it on the road, its a car to be proud of, and i think some American companies are gaining back whatever it is that they used to have. Im 17, and i have a 68 charger, and its something I'm proud to own.

This is dreamy. And sooo... well maintained. Love brocade if that is what that is. I cannot see very well. My favorite year of Cadillac next to a '57. The auto dimmer was ahead of it's time but did you notice the dual brake master cylinder? That was also ahead of it's time. It wasn't federally mandated on all cars until 1968. I would take a '57 for the weekends and a '62 Coupe' de Ville for a daily driver...well mostly. Where I live, I would need a beater for bad weather days!
