@ConQuiX14 жыл бұрын
@@africasseed The Green's having UBI as their proposal doesn't mean they posses the thought process that led Andrew to support it. It's the difference between the what and the how. The Green party in my experience has a particular brand that constrains them ideologically in unhelpful ways. I work in energy management, so I get my fair share of environmentalism. Most people I work with want us to get off the fossil as quickly as possible in an intelligent manner that won't cripple our neighbors or ourselves economically (as do I), but they are deeply opposed to nuclear energy production without even understanding it's the safest "least downside ridden" form of energy generation we've ever discovered. The problem is that the downsides it does have are MAJOR when they happen and they also involve nuclear physics which hardly anyone understands (even with the internet, fear of physics is still a thing). I'm lucky if I can find someone who understands nuclear fusion is different from fission and that different kinds of thorium reactors offer promising alternatives that are even safer still). Andrew was all over this, and it's because he doesn't make his mind up in advance of carefully investigating the details. What's remarkable and different about Andrew was his first principles based and (mostly) non-ideological thinking (this is what people say, but really they mean he doesn't make his mind up in advance). Andrew is eminently persuadable if you've got the data, the numbers the evidence, the methodology and the reasons working for you. A good or better argument will change the guy's mind - imagine having a government with the structures and systems that actually allow reason based thinking to be reliably implemented in viable policies. I know this is going to sound like a utopian dream to anyone who understands history or just human nature, but having a guy like Andrew win the nomination would certainly have constituted a decent shot at it. He does clearly lean left. Overall, that aligns with me personally but he's been either unwilling or unable to criticize things affirmative action (to take one example) even though it's problems have really started to show. Of course, no one really sees through all their biases. For the most part his concern for normal people over money or corporations takes an authentic and practical form though, and you can tell this from his policies and his focus in diagnosing the problems. Andrew understands not to ask or expect people to be heroes and go against their own self-interest - especially in large numbers consistently for extended stretches of time. He understands that getting many people to change quickly requires that you think carefully about the motivations and incentives driving people. It's what makes him different from Bernie; they share the same sympathies, but Andrew's ideas have the potential to scale, function and persist as intended (without deploying creepy overbearing constraints on people). Proposing policies that take human tendencies (generally classified as "human nature") into account makes all the difference in the world (until we start intentionally altering our nature and learn to alter it to something we like better I suppose). We all aspire to consistently do the right thing even when it's hard, but to expect most people to do this most of the time is actually a stupid expectation when you think about it. Reading between the lines, it's implied in almost *all* persuasive political rhetoric in some manner (either everyone else will be heroes or the government will somehow provide us everything we want and still manage to balance the budget etc.). It's a strategy that somehow still continues to fool people in large numbers and I would venture to guess that the Trump supporters that have crossed over to support Yang are likely permanently changed by their experience in this regard. On the other hand, the increasing number of people who have becoming disengaged from politics and were re-energized by Andrew suggests to me that many have started to catch on. Perhaps they were waiting for someone like Andrew who was willing to actually develop data, evidence and reason-based policies.

Dim how is the “automation thing” debunked? Do you think a machine will take the same amount of ppl it replaced to maintain it?
@hollar55604 жыл бұрын
Dim, I don’t exactly understand how yang addressing these policies is a bad thing. The problem with automation that you are missing is the fact that while it will creat new jobs, it’s going to create massive turmoil with the people whose jobs it took. Some of these people will have a very hard time transitioning into these new jobs, especially because most of them require an education while the old one didn’t. The future of America is becoming clearer every day, and we NEED politicians like yang to address these new issues before they become issues instead of putting off the inevitable like most other politicians today.
@Ha-qe7sl4 жыл бұрын
@Dim , I never thought i'd find myself having to write a mini argument essay in a youtube section but here goes. 1) automation works on the idea of maximizing efficiency. It defeats the purpose if for every amount of tasks that are optimized there would be an equal amount needed to maintain. 2)The kinds of jobs that would be at risk of automation also include some traditionally white collar jobs such as accounting, pharmacists, judicial clerks, radiologists, anything that requires repetition and data mining. 3) We are back to the proverbial argument of turning miners into coders. No, not everyone has the education to make that transition and not everyone want to be coders 4) Immigration policies are not the center of Yang's campaign, we need you to realize that no, immigrants are not the ones taking your "best paying jobs" they are the one doing manual labors that no one wants to do. 5) Universal basic income give ordinary people the safety net to pursue their own entrepreneurial, educational, career-changing endeavors needed in this time of technological revolution. As well as the ability to take time off to care of their loved ones. Along with the VAT TAX, It is capitalism for the ordinary folks. And it is just the first damn step. I could go on forever but bottom line is as someone who works in the tech industry and will have to automate away my colleague's jobs, I dont want this to be the reality of most Americans in just a few years.
@AB-ol5uz4 жыл бұрын
@Dim automation is centralizing jobs - which hurts rural communities the most. They can't move to where the jobs ARE if they can't sell their houses. Buyers won't buy if the community doesn't have jobs. UBI was the most direct way to close the gap - people could catch up on deferred home/car/health maintenance, get higher quality health care, tutoring for their kids or extra curricular activities, invest in their own small businesses, etc. NEW jobs would occur organically based on the different needs of the community. Contrast that with Bernies Federal Jobs guarantee - that is socialism NOT capitalism. UBI would support capitalistic growth in literally every town in the U.S.

@@kevingass4017 As a matter of fact, I am an american living in Germany now. You are right that Yang's plan is similar to the Germany healthcare system, which to me is a better version, since it includes both public and private plan. Even though I do agree that Bernie's M4A is a improvement over the current system, Yang's healthcare plan provides a transition period from private to public. Instead of forcing people to give up their private insurance, yang's plan intends to provide a public option that will eventually convince people the public healthcare is simply a better choice. I know personally many of my family members in the US are really enjoying their private healthcare plans and won't want to change to a public one. Regarding the German model, only people with income at the top 10% are qualified for the private healthcare. My husband has never opted for the private plan, though he does belong to this group for many years because there are some disadvantages in these private plans in terms of costs and restrictions when people get older, so the public plan here in German has demonstrated itself it is already a good enough plan for most people without using the private one.

Eagle 367 I’m sorry but I cannot. I love him as a person, and agree fundamentally with the majority of his policies but I cannot stand in solidarity with people who reject science and want workers to take over businesses that were founded by extremely hardworking people. Bernie Sanders doesn’t like identity politics, but his base and majority of endorsements do. I want a Capitalism that works for everyone, and a country based on data. Thank you for hearing me out
@prog.rocker4 жыл бұрын
@@lochlanfleming8536 you seem to miss that the hardworking people who make companies successful ARE the workers. yes, the businesses were sometimes founded by individuals... but there are also lots of corporations now that were founded by investment capitalists who bought out other companies to create a new one. the worst part is when a Profitable corporation is given incentives and tax breaks (many with zero tax owed), and then sends its production overseas while laying off the workers who made the company successful in the first place... how is that right? and, the companies then abandon communities where the company was at the center of the community's economy. how are those workers not part of the fabric of that organization? why should they not have a say? when the private equity firms buy out companies, that hard-working owner gets a nice profit, and most of the employees who worked so hard to make the company worth buying get laid off. and... in the two instances that i have been through where that has happened... the investors didn't know how to run what was left of the companies after we were all gone... and defaulted to their banks (who took over and then divested what was left in property and intellectual property value). apparently, the workers knew more about running those companies than the executives. bernie wants the stakeholders involved to have a say. and, where do you get the idea that bernie rejects science? he is guided by science and is pushing to incorporate a lot more science in our government programs.

@@stevennoble6205 he constantly lied and was bearly scrutinized if at all. lied about medicare for all, lied about taxing amazon. remember how much flak bernie got for the rogan endorsement? could you imagine if any of the other candidates went on the show of a religious extremist and vile racist like ben shapiro to discuss how the UBI is actually a way to privatize teh welfare state? he did well because no one took him seriously. just a minor business guy with a failed neoliberal nonprofit.

2020 impeachment’s article 1 & 2 trump win. NY stock market 100% high 29350 trump win. Unemployment 22 years low to 3% trump win. US Gas prices nationwide 15yr low trump win. I’m a math guy President Trump is the 2020 winner. Only one option for democrat party need very strong policy and solutions for working class people. M4A is strong for democrat party not for both party. Democrat candidates need Some kind of solutions for both side people will support. Otherwise Donald Trump will easily win 2020.
