its about a battle that germans poisoned russians and they thought that they dead but when they gone inside the 1000 russians left they are very wounded and looked like zombies and they attacked them one last time forcing germans to push back in fear. can you imagine this moment when they saw them? amazing story

the russians felt that if they were going to die anyway, they wouldnt go quietly, in there minds "im dead anyway, might as well have a few shots at the germans" , and if i remember correctly, didnt most of the survivors live to there 80's and 90's

Its about battle of Osowiec Fortress 1915 (modern Poland). Poisoned by chlorine gas, Russian forces counterattacked against advancing Germans. Contrary to song lyrics, commanders of Russian forces was not Tsar, but lieutenant Vladimir Karpovich Kotlinsky and Polish famous painter Wladyslaw Strzeminski :)

Just an FYI they were not talking about the commanders on the field but the 2 leaders of the Russians and Germans. Czar Nicholas II for Russia and Hindenburg for the Germans. "Two combatants spar. Hindenburg against the Czar".....so the lyrics are correct.

@@Camel-from-Arabia Wilhelm was kaiser but Paul was in charge of the war. Nicolas took charge of the Russian army in 1915 I'm not sure if it was before or after the attack of the dead Men

I cannot recommend enough checking out some of the Sabaton History Channel as well. They really go into detail and explain the events that the song is about and the Attack of the Dead Men is a great episode.

Yes, it looks like that when they do this song live. Saw them in St. Louis and Nashville in the last three years. I have tickets for May in St. Louis again. On another subject, I once had a Boston shirt like that. I got it in 1988 when I saw them live in Indianapolis...

It is an amazing story. The gassed troops knew that death was certain and resolved to use the last of their strength to make the attackers pay and die with great honor.

Some of them actually survived though. Actually if true which it may be. A sentry was in the fortress long after surviving alone in the dark for years until the polish army found him and relieved him of his duties.

Bit of information, as you mentioned the drummer. The blond haired drummer {Hanes} is the husband of Floor Jansen of Nightwish. They live in Sweden. I believe Hanes is Swedish. Of course Floor is Dutch.

I forgot to mention, a Russian singer Radiotopac I think was allowed to release the song before Sabaton did on their Great War album. Sabaton borrowed his song Defense of Moscow which is Also an awesome video/song.

Battle of Osowiec Fortress, 1915. About 100 russian survivors of a german gas attack who had suffered the gas with no protection counter attacked the assaulting german forces who heavily outnumbered them. The germans were routed in shock. To put this into context, a lot of people are actually familiar with the effects of the chlorine gas, especially the chlorine-bromine mixture the germans used. Whenever you see a cartoon or dipiction of a green/brown 'stink' cloud in cartoons which makes flowers whilt and people gasp and keel over, thats the cultural legacy of WW1 gas warfare. Chlorine reacts with water which creates hydrochloric acid. Bromine reacts and corrodes metals and together this gas destroys everything it touches. Grass shrivels and turns black in seconds, trees are stripped of their leaves, birds fall out of the branches and their bodies start slowly corroding on the ground. Metal rusts before your very eyes. Now imagine you are a german soldier watching the engineers pump so much of this stuff over the lip of the trench that the land, and the russian defences are entirely covered in it. Youre in your late teens or early twenties, have recieved a few weeks training and are now on the Eastern front so very far from home. After the engineers finish and some time has passed for the gas to disperse, you and your entire battalion climb up out of your trench and march through what the gas has left behind. The whole area is a greenish-brown where nothing at all is left alive and untouched. No plants, animals or insects. Fallen weapons, wire or anything metal in no mans land is corroded, brown and ruined. Flesh has also been similiarly affected. There are bodies as you get closer to the russian lines, dressed in uniforms that are also stained from the gas, unmoving and still and showing all the signs of dying horrifically. Some shots echo out, startling you by they are soon joined by others. Not enough for an entire battle, more like a small skirmish but thats when you see them. Dressed in gas coated uniforms, bloody rags wrapped around their faces and necks, wheezing, gasping and coughing bloody chunks as the chorine turns into acid in the lungs, what you can only describe as dead russian bodies are standing up and moving right at you and the hundreds of fellow germans. They are staggering, swaying and horrific to behold, and to top it all off, they're shooting at you. I dont blame the several thousand germans from effectively going "fuck this" and running away.

Then you'll be saddnened to hear that Tommy has quit Sabaton to persue his other passions, namely Majestica. Should be noted that Sabaton and Tommy parted ways as firends and he is still doing the upcomming tour with the band.

Not to rain on any parades, but I'm sorry to say that I don't think that Tommy's going to do the US tour... Thobbe has already confirmed he'll be in US on that tour and there is no mentions in official Sabaton "commucications" of Tommy doing anymore shows with the band. He officially resigned 2 months ago (3 months by the tour start) there's only so long he can be considered a member even when "He will stay on to ensure that all goes smoothly with the handover to our next guitarist." I'd say the handover has been done. Thobbe had already agreed to come back (7th of january, according to Thobbe) before Tommy was announced publicly to be leaving (20th of january)... + All of the video material Tommy has appeared in this year, has clearly been filmed months ago.

Having seen them live they are just phenomenal, saw them live with Babymetal and Lordi in my homeland of Cardiff, I'll give a few suggestions of Sabaton songs to listen to, Sarajevo, Into the Fire, Carolus Rex, First Soldier, To Hell and Back, The Last Stand, Red Baron and Primo Victoria are just a few I love

I like your reactions, but honestly just skip watching when it is a live performance video you are watching. Just my personal preference, but I'm sure there are others who think the same. I just feel like unless you are here in person, Sabaton is best experienced with a good lyric or music video.
