The captain on the boat was the son of the rescued sailor, who died about a year before this song was released (if I remember correctly).

Sabaton does not do things by half. Their music videos are epic and well done. "Christmas Truce" used a professional movie crew. They have some videos on their channel that show the making of the videos and they also have Sabaton History Channel which explains the history behind the songs. This video was made in conjunction with the video game World of Warships. "Steel Commanders" was made in conjunction with World of Tanks. Great reaction.

The video is a historically accurate recreation of the sinking of the Bismarck. The swordfish biplane of the fleet air arm landing a small torpedo hit which jammed Bismarck's rudder allowing the allied fleet to catch him. There are some who debate whether British torpedoes sunk him or whether the crew scuttled the ship. But its an academic argument Bismarck was defeated the only possible outcomes at that point were sinking or capture.

If no one has mentioned this, the name they gave the boat @ 1:39 is taken from an older song by the band, from the older set up of the band.

"Primo Victoria" was the first song where historical themes were used as the plot of the song. It was on their first released album, although they had an older album (Metal Destroyer) that was released later. When they wrote "Primo Victoria" Joakim and Par felt the music was too epic to make another, as they said, "metal song about tits and beer." They were both interested in history and used the Normandy invasion for the song. the rest, as they say, is history.

King George V was firing, Rodney was firing, Dorsetshire launched torpedos and yet the Bismarck was afloat. In the end it was the crew that scuttled the ship to keep him away from the Brits. The first battle scene is Bismarck damaging Prince of Wales, the Swordfish plane damaging the rudder with a torpedo is accurate too and the second is Bismarck and Rodney exchanging fire.

This is the best way to learn about history , and for almost every one of there songs they have a "Sabaton History Channel" video that gives you the history then a little about way they did that topic. you got 10 albums to go. The Bismarck was a mighty battleship of course the Germans thought he was untouchable when the HMS Hood was sank royal navy flag ship Churchill sent every destroyer, battleship, cruiser after the Bismarck which sealed it's fate

You like this Sabaton video? You should check out the Christmas truce. It will blow your mind. Now the Bismarck was the flagship of the german navy in WW2. It was the biggest ship out there and it sank the hms Hood the flagship of the British navy. So the British hunted that ship and eventually sank it. The story of that seaman you see in the video is true and the older guy is actually his son. The story is amazing. Now the other video you should watch is the Christmas truce. That happened in WW1. An amazing historic fact that you should check out first. The video will blow your mind

The band took that boat, cleverly named after another of their big songs, 'Primo Victoria'.... out to the oceanic resting place of The Bismarck, to record the video. They don't just tell stories, they live them, when possible. Drummer, Hannes Van Dahl is married to Nightwish singer, Floor Jansen. And lead guitarist Tommy Johansson is a secret power metal GOD on his YT channel!

Apparently the actor playing the older fishing boat captain they meet at the beginning is the actual son of the IRL version of the young sailor you see escaping the sinking battleship. The compass with the coordinates is real, though they used a prop for the video.

You should try some of the older songs aswell. Not all their songs is about history, first album is just heavy metal. But the album art of war and carolius rex are both awsome

Bismarck was a huge danger to merchant shipping as well as the Navy, it threatened Britain's food supplies from Canada, if it was allowed to escape further into the Atlantic. The ship had sunk HMS Hood, so we had to send everything we had to destroy the Bismarck.

If you don't want to upset some naval personnel I recommend calling them Ships. Boats are apparently a bit too simple for them ^^ Practically I think it basically comes down to Size. You don't really hear people call it a Fishing ship for instance. In addition, don't call it driving a boat for the love of God. Less likely maybe, but it happens. You sail a ship and you, if it comes to it, row a boat ;) Edit: Hadn't seen the entire video upon commenting, didn't notice you call it a ship later :)

The simplest explimation I have come across is that if it can fit on something else it is a boat. But then submarines are usually called boats and I'd love to seem some one fit a Typhoon on anything smaller than a Nimitz class.
