Thing to remember that despite the animation here... Japaneses cities were still very... Old school at the time, made of wood, bamboo, and paper basically with concrete and steel being too expansive to use until post war. Thats before you add in that Japan is like California with earthquake so was made with that in mind. Which was why the Firebombing was worse then the Nukes, even with the radaition, more people die cause of the Firestorms. ANyways SO the Japanese cities were well... Weakly built, and made to cause little damage while being fast to rebuild after an earthquake, smart all things considering. So the Nukes was basically turbo jet fan blowing on a city of cards. Estimates figure that you need a full fourteen fatman size bombs, those were 25 kilotoners, to do similar to say... Berlin (which was a target if the war stay on) London (if the Nazi Got the bomb) Moscow (Cold War) or New York. Give or depending on the geograghics of the city. Nagaski suffer less damage from the more powerful fatman then Hiroshima did from littleboy cause one city was flat and the other one has all the hills. Hills and big buildings do extremely well at stopping the nuke shockwave. But it was very easy to make a fatman size bomb to have more explosive power.

And I do not think the US would ever join the war. But at the same time nationalist movements like we see today in the US would have grown and we might have seen a new nation created from the political upheaval we see today but back in the 1930's. @@Luksky2701 The thing about Imperial Japan and their utter and complete devotion to the Emperor from about 800 years back till the 40's was that they didn't know how to surrender, nor was surrender a culture concept. Death or Victory, that is what they knew; that is how the generals and the admiralty planned their battles. Bushido was so thoroughly ingrained into them that even after the Pacific Air Force's firebombing campaign and targeting of basically every industry in order to MAKE them capitulate, they would not yield. The propaganda campaign surrounding the "Japanese people's imminent victory" was even more complete and believed than the Nazi's own similar propaganda. IF the nukes were never used, and we went ashore and invaded; the Japanese people would be extinct right now. So, I for one am glad that Operation Downfall never had to happen.

That nuclear attack is one of the first two nuclear attacks ever done
@Mgaming614 жыл бұрын
Those innocent people who died, may they rest in peace! The nuclear attack was necessary because Japan wouldn't surrender. And if this attack never happened the people might have survived. But then the amphibious landings by the Allies would have been made. In that case the whole population of Japan might have been killed as they didn't want to surrender. So, this nuclear attack was needed, but still this was really wrong and a war crime in my eyes.
