Sabaton's songs are 99% about military history, in some way at least. Sabaon is neutral in their story telling, so you will hear stories from all sides of war, even the bad guys (everything is relative of course). Sometimes they ask questions in their songs that makes the audience think. Overall, a great Swedish band. They do a lot of WW1 and WW2 songs, but also older stuff as well. They even made a concept album about the Swedish Empire (in 2 languages no less). You might enjoy the "Carolus Rex"-album in general, as it, among things, sings about a time in history when people did what they thought God demanded of them.

great reaction, more Sabaton please. Sabaton is a Swedish band with a loooong list of history based music. Sabaton also has an award winning history channel that gives background to over 120 if their songs (not music award, academic, aimed at education of the public) . Sabaton videos are often have dedications and/or messages at the end, perhaps not always but... watching to the very end is frequently well worth it. I know you said to not request here, and this is by no means that, it is just a list with some Sabaton songs with minimal information to help if you want to use. Animated STORY videos (short Animated history lessons with music videos in them) No bullets fly, enemy showing mercy to injured aircrew in a nearly wrecked aircraft barely still flying, even escorting them to safety. Night witches, Young (17-28) female bomber pilots in ww2 fighting the Nazi despite the discrimination they faced and being given obsolete equipment, aircraft ... Lady of the dark, female fighting alongside men during ww1 and being highly respected and even more decorated. Red baron, the famous fighter pilot of ww1 first soldier, unlikely French hero in ww1. Epic ORIGINAL videos. Bismark, about the sinking of the ship Christmas truce, about the spontaneous truce in some parts of the western front during Christmas 1914 40:1, about polish soldiers, badly outnumbered (just under 750 in all) facing 42 000 germans, they where BADLY outgunned desperately defending against the German invasion 1939 (with odds actually close to 55:1 they held for 3 DAYS when ammunition and supplies ran out. Uprising, the Warsaw Uprising against the nazi germans during 1944. you just saw to hell and back, the story of Audie Murphy (highly decorated) and his struggle AFTER the war, so about PTSD and drug addiction that returning soldiers can face. Fields of verdun, the 300+ day long battle fought there. Price of a mile, about the battle of Passchendaele Screaming Eagles, about the battle of the bulge Live performances 40:1 from poland Uprising from poland En livstid I krig live from Göteborg Sweden (in Swedish but there are subtitles) , very heavy again, about thoughts of a young man going to war. Two covers that are good Defence of Moscow, self explained 1916 about the devastating battle of the somme in ww1, casualties topped 1 milion if you count both sides, all for 6 miles of ground, these are just some, there are plenty more.

Aye, Murphy himself said he wasn't fearless - he just felt he had to do something when his friends were being killed. That may be why he got it so bad once he got home. He wasn't just afraid for his own life but also for the lives of his brothers in battle, and there was no way he could save everyone. Part of the trauma for soldiers is the feeling of guilt when you survive and a mate doesn't, even if there was nothing you could do. We know more about these things today than 80 years ago, but still not enough. Oh, and Sabaton does express it well. Many of their songs do describe what the poor Private in the trenches feels about the war his high and mighty overlords got him into - even if the poor guy doesn't even know enough to blame them.

Many of the lyrics in this song were inspired by the poem "The Crosses Grow on Anzio" which was written by Audie Murphy after the war. PTSD was also covered by Charlie Daniels in the song "Still in Saigon." For another emotionally hard-hitting song about PTSD I recommend "The Wrong Side of Heaven" by Five Finger Death Punch.

Lately there has been very good results with some new PTSD treatments, that have shown effect on PTSD that is resistant to the usual treatments. these are still experimental but with the kind of effects as well as how the legal framework will change in the coming years i expect that many veterans will be able to receive much needed help that previously wasn't possible.

Im a former navy man myself (Medic), I never saw combat but i met plenty of people that did, you see photos of them before combat and them after and you can definitely see they were not the same people. Then i spent 15 years being an EMT/Paramedic and now i get asked by the rookies - "What have you seen" the amount of carnage i have seen over my 15 years was probably worth 1 day on those battlefields and i have seen a lot even to make a seasoned EMT sick.

Great reaction! Just a quibble, he didn't deal with alcoholism, as alcohol made him ill. He was addicted to pills to deal with his PTS. He couldn't sleep at night, had bad dreams from the war, so the doctors gave him pills. But, the pills didn't help, so he checked into a motel for about 5 days and got off them, cold turkey. This video is perhaps what he went through, but no one really knows. Audie's main addiction was gambling. Despite money troubles, he refused lucrative offers for alcohol or cigarette advertisements because he didn't think kids should see him saying these are ok. A great man, with scars from the war.
