They are the pride of Brazil, true heroes!!!!!! Some curiosities: The FEB when they embarked to the front they didn't tell them were they were going. As a revenge for the stole of our cachaça (alcoholic drink) some brazilians sneaked into the american camp and in the middle of the night they stole a tank. As Getúlio was an dictator the disbanded the FEB when they still were in Italy because he feared that their victory over dictators would destroy his image or even start a revolution. PS: the G in Getúlio is pronounced as J in Jack or Jordan

Believe if you want: I met Sabaton through an EVANGELICAL PREACHING I watched on KZbin HAHAHAHAHA The pastor was talking about the virtues of biblical masculinity, which are: compromise and sacrifice. He said that in war these are the virtues that soldiers exercise. Therefore, men who want to exercise masculinity correctly according to the Bible must behave like soldiers: willing to sacrifice their own lives to protect others. As Jesus himself did! In that video description he left 2 songs that told the story of men who exercised these virtues as men of God. He introduced about the soldiers of the D-Day in Normandy and about the Brazilian heroes of Monte Castello. The two links led to the songs "Primo Victoria" and "Smoking Snakes"!

And say what you will from us, but this people is quite warm, and you guys will always feel the warmth of the people who love you. There are many cool stories about the FEB. A platoon made entirely of Indians managed to run over a fortified German position who ran and even left their flag. The captured nazi flag is proudly shown on a museum in Rio. You won't hear about further actions because once the Gothic Belt was down and Germany was opened trough the alps, the Americans went and the FEB stayed to keep the peace and order in Northern Italy where to this day they are called "Liberatori", liberators.

I have one correction about the history portion of this video: the expression "quando uma cobra fuma" ("when a snake smokes [tobacco]") in Brazilian Portuguese, as an equivalent to "when pigs fly", predates even the Vargas Administration, which used it to refer to how unlikely it was for Brazil to ever enter WWII because nobody in Brazil had any interest in getting involved with that hot mess. When that changed with the German U-boat attacks on Brazilian merchant ships the smoking snake was promptly adopted as the FEB's insignia because if there is one thing all Brazilians have in ample supply is a sense of humor. The expression also ended up changing from describing an impossibility to describing a certainty. On a funny side note: there is another expression in Brazilian Portuguese for something unlikely, "nem que a vaca tosse" ("not even if the cow coughs"), that had it been used instead by the Vargas administration to describe their desire to remain neutral during the war this song would instead have been called "Coughing Cows".

Thank you all for this channel! Honestly, I've been a fan of Sabaton for a while (enough for my work place to claim you played in England on November 28😀). Nonetheless, I've started to study some if the history, got the DVD of Hell and Back, etc. But to have this channel, really telling the story of the vets and the fallen, we don't even realize existed. (sorry, I'm from USA, until Sabaton, I never looked into other countries history, cuz our schools... maybe, could use some work). Please keep this up!

My great-grandfather was in the same battalion as they were. He was a Morse code translator but after a while he went to the front line due to the lack of men, without even knowing how to shoot. He survived to tell his story, and died in 2005, he had several physical and mental scars, but my greatest pride is to be able to tell his story and pass on his bravery ... I hope one day I can be the heir to the medal he received in his return Thank you Sabaton for remembering them and my granddads batallion!

I lived my first 20 years in a neighborhood called Monte Castelo, in a city called Parnamirim, aka Trampolim da Vitória (springboard of victory). The US and the FEB built an airport there, due to its relatively short distance to Africa and Europe. The streets were named after war veterans, and the institutes were mostly named after air force commanders. However, it took a Swedish heavy metal band to tell me this history and this legend. Their song moved me to tears because of the bravery of my compatriots. Although I had heard about the war, even here, in the land of these heroes, was taught to me that the brazilians participation in war was ridiculous and the US were the great protagonists, not as heroes, but as colonizers. This made me ashamed of my city's history and feel like a victim of the US, as if those soldiers were sent like cattle to the slaughterhouse. Thank you, you have rewritten my memories, making me feel like the descendant of heroes, not cattle. I'm crying again.

Thanks guys for making this video and thanks for the song too. Of course Smoking Snakes made some people know about the FEB (I'm included on it) because in the school the teachers don't talk about they and the true history of our country. The three gave us a exemple of patriotism, not just the three, but the FEB is a glory for the brazilian army. I hope one day Sabaton do a song about the Empire of Brazil (which now we have a movement who wants to restore our monarchy) or about the Paraguayan War. Thank you so much! Greetings from Brazil!

Indy, thank you very much for this video about the Brazilian Expeditionary Force. I highly recommend everyone the article "Brazil and World War II The Forgotten Ally. What did you do in the war, Zé Carioca ", by professor Frank D. McCann, and published January 1, 1995 . I really liked that you guys intermingled the video with Sabaton's clip and other videos; made for a great montage. There are a few books in English about the FEB, and the Osprey book is particularly good for an introduction - even if it focuses mostly on uniform memorabilia - "The Brazilian Expeditionary Force in WWII" by professors Cesar Campiani and Bonalume Neto. Your treatment of the three heroes was very respectful and very well-done, thank you again. Just two major pointers to an otherwise near-flawless video: - Montese was not the last battle of the FEB, Collecchio-Fornovo was. In this battle, the FEB encircled and defeated the German 148. Infanterie-Division, plus the remants of the also German 90th Grenadier Division and the RSI Italia Division (also remnants of Monterosa), capturing more than 15,000 prisoners, including two generals: Otto-Fretter Pico and Mario Carloni. And that was before the German surrender in Italy, with the 148 ID being the only division being surrounded and captured in the entire Allied operation (the others would surrender due to the overall surrender mentioned in the video). The 148 ID surrendered intact, and if you go to Wikipedia you will see a miscaptioned photograph of the surrendering process: the men in the meeting are actual German Colonel von Kleiber and Brazilian Major Franco Ferreira. - 813, that's a training maneuver still in Brazil, and they are using Brazilian-made gas mask and German-made Mauser rifles, and still wearing the old Brazilian olive green uniform and locally-made Adrian-style helmets. The Brits made this video in a cavalry unit equipped with the old Fiat-Ansaldo CV 3-35 II where they make a similar charge at the end, using gas mask, with the narrator making an awful lot of remarks about Nuts! The video can be found on KZbin by the title of "Cavalry's New "Horses" Dublin Issue (1942)".

My grand grandfather was in the navy at African coast. He was MIA for months, his boat was targeted by a uboat, engine destroyed. From 15 crew members only 7 survived, many killed during the attack, others by suicide after. When he returned my grand grandmother was mourning him for a month. And the best part: he told me that when I was a child sitting in his lap eating Cocoa seeds and sugarcane. Miss you vô.

My great-uncle fought and survived the war. My grandmother loved her brother dearly and always talked about him. They were the children of Italian immigrants that came to Brazil in the early 20th century. My great uncle, Emilio, survived the war, but the irony of life; he came back to Brazil and was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk when an ungoverned car ran him over on the sidewalk. He survived World War 2, but was killed while riding his bicycle. I have pictures of him in his uniform, there were even letters from an Italian lady he became involved in while fighting in Italy. I don't know where those letters are now. It's real amazing to see someone mentioning them. Thank you!!
