The Simpsons (at the time) had writers that were transcendent. They carved their own way into American culture/humor, and pulled off episodes that I never could’ve imagined would still be referenced to this day. I legitimately think those were some of the greatest writers on planet Earth. When you are up against a trendsetter, like The Simpsons, you can’t focus on replication - you must be ahead or you will be destroyed.
@mckenzie.latham912 жыл бұрын
Family guy is a direct Simpsons rip off from the family dynamic to the sitcom style and has been massively commercially successful spawning 10-15 seasons and at least three spin offs (Cleveland Show, American Dad etc.) South park literally has done an episode that specifically stated no show can compare to Simpsons cause they’ve been on air for so long and done everything possible, therefore using them as a framework for comparison is a failure from the get go.

Father of the Pride doing it's whole "humans are interesting while the animals do bland stuff" thing actually reminds me of an anime, Nichijou. In that anime there are also 2 groups we follow, a group of school girls, and a group of a child scientist with a robot friend she created and a cat she gave the ability to talk to. The school girls have insane imaginations and do crazy and weird stuff daily, while the scientist's house is mostly normal issues and down to earth problems, just with a crazy cast and setting. There's a juxtaposition there that is interesting, and I'm not sure of Father of the Pride did that intentionally, but it does make sense.

@tentaclesmod Жыл бұрын
@@catbatrat1760 Well, yes. Nichijou is a fantastic anime. Absolutely hilarious. Another way of putting it is that the school takes mundane things and treats them as incredible crazy, while the crazy things of the shinonome household are used for mundane jokes (but funny jokes nonetheless). In any case, this dynamic only lasts for around the first half of the anime. For the second half the characters of both plots actually meet and start mingling and so do the tones. If you aren't sold, just search for clips in youtube. Is a relatively popular show so there are many clips uploaded.

22:50 I think it's a combination of four things: 1) The lighting is extremely minimal. Everything appears to be rendered under two-point lighting: one directional light and one softbox light to make the first light's shadows really muted and understated. This reduces the contrast in the shot a great deal, which - while it makes everything really easy to see, it doesn't exactly make for a dynamic and interesting environment. The intended effect seems to be to make it look more like a 'traditional' cartoon, but... 2) The entire color palette is pretty desaturated. All of the colors have a low saturation value to make for a more muted, 'realistic' quality to everything. This would be the perfect color palette for a more serious affair... But the lack of contrast creates a subdued quality that doesn't mesh well with either the character designs or the overall tone of the show. It doesn't need to go full _Problem Solverz_ but bringing in a bit more color would definitely help. 3) The character designs need more to them. Aside from the kids (who are at least cute) there is nothing especially eye-catching about the designs, especially with the aforementioned saturation issue. About the only character with a recognizable design is Grandpa, primarily because he's basically a knock-off anthro Scar. 4) The animation lacks energy. This one would be harder to explain if not for the helpfully-placed clip of Sully at 22:12 for comparison purposes. See how Sully's movement has energy to it, even when he's not moving most of his body? Compare this to the animation of Dad Lion at 22:54 where, in spite of running and moving his entire body, there just isn't any power behind it or weight to his movements. This has been my attempt to explain something that probably didn't need explaining using expertise I don't actually have!
@Daggett11224 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same about the lighting, it's very basic which makes everything look bland. You have to remember when this came out however. Technology and animation artistic theory has improved significantly since then, so it's not really fair to compare it to modern day standards. It's also not fair to compare it to a movie for animation quality, since movies can get much more detail attention than a TV show.
@Camkitsune4 жыл бұрын

Siegfried and Roy: Incorporate wild animals into their act Public when those animals act completely according to their nature and evolution: 😱

People are idiots for assuming wild animals can be domesticated in one lifetime, if they can at all(like tigers, impossible to do).

Ironic given the Tiger never actually attacked him. He collapsed on stage and the tiger carried him to safety (but, obviously... humans weren't meant to be carried in that fashion)

Nionivek I genuinely can’t tell if you’re just joking because I could really believe such an event could occur. I’ve heard far more implausible tales...

@@Nionivek Cats and dogs carry their young by the scruff of their necks routinely, but our "scruff" just happens to be the single most vulnerable point on the human body. With that said the attacking part definitely did not occur, however the verdict is still unsure if Roy had the stroke first or if the tiger decided to remove Roy from the stage for other reasons.

23:13 I'm not sure if anyone in the comments talked about this (there's probably someone tho), but the feeling of blandness probably comes from the colour scheme of everything. All the colours are yellowish or brownish, making them all blend together in such a way that nothing stands out anymore unless it's a different colour. Never watched the show, but from the scenes you showed in this video that's the impression I have. That's why shows like (to use one of your examples) Miraculous Ladybug stand out more! The colour palettes are different from character to character and setting to setting (but not overdone in a way that confuses the viewer and makes it difficult to pinpoint what's supposed to stand out anymore).

Yeah its use of colors and lighting are really dull and boring for the most part.

they should've used the technique the crew for my life as a teenaged robot used. Make the background first then decide the color pallet for the charectors to make them stand out
