@@SergioLeonardoCornejo Unless we got a statement from the TV station owners themselves, it's all speculation. Sometimes it seems violence is more taboo in Japan (just look at how the Japanese version of Resident Evil VII censored the decapitated head on the fridge, or how the blood in Danganronpa was colored pink for censorship purposes and it just became part of its identity), sometimes it doesn't.
@TigirlakaLaserwolf6
@TigirlakaLaserwolf6 2 жыл бұрын
@@arturoaguilar6002 it depends on the variety of violence. Limb loss/decapitation is considered a no-go, to the point a lot of newer dbz stuff gives future Gohan his arm back, but violence as comedy/slapstick tends to get a pass. My guess is the sex stuff, considering this show has it but popee did not. Japan tends to let 'lewdness' slide when played for comedy, but blatant sexual reference (as opposed to tropes like the dirty old man) is usually forbidden (for children's media), no matter how funny.

"Mr. Stain on Junk Alley" is completely different. It's more calm and, compared to PTP or Funny Pets, it's charm is less about very violent slapstick and more about pretty emotional moments, especially the finale. The first half is about silly and a little weird shenanigans of a homeless man and his cat friend, but it quickly turns into a bunch of pretty heartwarming stories. It's really worth a watch.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's because it was a bigger production overall. Having a pretty weird low-budget thing with dark humor and adult subject matter is fine, but when you have more money involved people tend to pay more attention. And that means you're more open to criticism for all the things that make the project different and unique.

I haven't watched this series except what's been shown but I gotta say the comedy, in terms of randomness, feels so similar to a series I once read called Dr. Slump, it's by Akira Toriyama the same dude who did Dragon Ball and has its own anime series I believe. Even if Saber doesn't do a video on it I feel like he'd have an absolute blast watching it lmao

Another really wild animated show I really recommend you check out is Xavier: Renegade Angel. It's one of my favorite shows, not only because of how extremely wacky it can get at times, but also because it makes genuinely great use of fast-paced comedy at all times during the show. It took me multiple viewings to catch all of the jokes, not because they were bad, in fact they are all very funny to me, but because they come in such quick unrelenting succession, often through wordplay, it is nearly impossible to understand everything going on. The show will completely change subjects on a whim, while making use of incredibly wild visuals, which means it requires your full attention to be followed without getting lost. While that sounds bad, I find the show embraces this craziness quite well, and generally ends up being incredibly fun despite the chaos. Since its structure is practically non-linear, most of the entertainment is derived or from the craziness of the show itself, or its quick quippy comedy, which it achieves quite well, especially through dark and relatively edgy humor. Overall, funny show 10/10

Sadly, some of the pictures didn't make it) Funny's house is adjacent to a bunch of ruins in the area around it is a national park which was originally her grandfather's, but was difficult to maintain so it was put under the control of the government along with the ruins. Looking at all the background objects in the sceneries, there's so much story to tell. It's sad that we never got a chance to hear or see more about this world.

In short, despite of the cons of the storytelling if you want something chaotic that could messed up your little Simian brain, then Funny Pets is a total go 2.

It mostly goes between surreal comedy, dark comedy, & (surprisingly) surreal horror at times! You'd have to watch Mr. Stain yourself to see what I mean! It manages to be legitimately CREEPY at times! Naturally, Mr. Stain also runs on negative continuity much like both Popee the Performer & Funny Pets.

My favorite show from ryuji is definetly garakuta (mr. stain on junk alley) it was made between popee and funny pets and it was the most polished series by far. The animation is good, it has lots of characters like stain palavan or radio boy, the outro music is the best, and it tells more complex story than popee and funny pets and still without any words. I love it.

Btw for those who don’t know, there’s another show by the creator called Mr Stain on Junk Alley. Take a hobo named Stain, a giant yellow cat named Palvan, put them in a run down city block called Junk Alley and base each episode around whatever they find in the junk piles. Insanity ensues.

Imma be honest, I watched both Funny Pets and Popee after your reviews and of the two, Popee is definitely the better even though....Funny Pets isn't bad either. It's not bad at all either but I think the problem is that it feels like it's expected to live up to Popee and be better than it when the scenarios of both series are vastly different. Popee is essentially a show about the circus and from there they can make up a lot of stories and situations involving all the acts you can think of can happen in a circus and the chaos that happens in it. Funny Pets is about a cute girl who is oblivious to the fact that she adopted ALIENS and deals with all the situations that come with that but what makes Popee better, at least to me? The fact that Popee did so much more with less. Both Popee and Funny Pets are VERY simple but Popee wins out because of the lack of character voices. Everything is done through pantomiming, music cues and sound effects. Popee and everyone else doesn't have voices so they don't make noises to symbolize whatever emotions their going through which actually slows down Funny Pets and gets annoying REALLY fast because a lot of it is Cresent making his weird grunting noises, Funny making her 'OH OH AH!' noises and Corona sometimes making reaction noises. In Popee all of this was done with well times music and sound effects, to the point where Popee's weird little cartoon sounds he makes IS considered his voice. Funny Pets always works better when it's NOT being violent like Popee. What makes Popee hilarious and downright sadistic with its violence is that it's a KID in a bunny hat and cat PJs being violent for no reason. Funny Pet's best moments comes when it's not violent but just plain WEIRD. Violence is the strength for Popee while weirdness is the strength for Funny Pets. And despite the things I didn't care for in Funny Pets, it's still a legit funny show and yes Funny looks strangely like Strawberry Shortcake. I don't know if that was intentional but at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a connection SOMEWHERE. And just as an aside, the reference at 18:36 is that Cresent filed his head to resemble the Asahi Flame in Tokyo.

Given Saberspark's sense of humor, I have to wonder if he has ever reviewed the old Don Hertzfeldt videos. Stuff like Rejected, Genre, and Lily and Jim are the ones that I remember the best, but there were quite a few. He influenced so much of the Absurdist content on the internet these days, and he has been copied so much, that I don't know if his work has the same impact anymore, but it's still worth watching at least once. Ah, the days of someone randomly yelling down the dorm halls, "My spoon is too big!" To which the correct response is "I AM A BANANA!"
@kidwolf0015
@kidwolf0015 2 жыл бұрын
Bruh, "My spoon is too big" takes me back to my elementary years.... For context, there was a cut of Rejected on KZbin in 2009 that was JUST the spoon guy and the banana. It was basically a meme on KZbin back then and one person even made a parody called "my fork is too small" which was basically the same thing but with a tomato screaming in horror over seeing tomato sauce. Let's just say that my entire family knew the proper reaction to oversized cereal spoons. (I've never seen the rest of these videos or the rest of rejected though.)

According from my research (that I mean checking in the wiki), Ryuji Masuda and Wakako Masuda are still going strong and working on new projects One work which is produced by the two of them is called Phaeton and Me, not much is known about it since it's not yet released but according to the wiki, it stars Popee (yes THAT POPEE) as a doctor and it'll touch on a problem in Japamese Society (yes I'm not joking) The other two works are the two's independent projects, for Wakako Masuda, she's working on a manga called Chinchikurin, which stars all of Ryuji and her's characters from their works and reimagined them as completely different characters in a high school setting(?) And as for Ryuji Masuda.... He's working on another BANGER new animation. Not much is known about it but it only says he's working on a new animation

When it comes to network executives, they're a hard bunch to predict at best. According to the developer commentaries on the Futurama DVDs, the Fox Network executives signed the show for the first season pretty much unseen on the basis it was the creators of the Simpsons were making a futuristic sitcom. Basically the executives thought it was going to be Simpsons meet the Jetsons. The execs HATED what Futurama actually was. They hated how dark the show's humor was, they hated how grungy the future was, and they especially hated characters like Bender and Dr. Zoidberg. AKA, the Fox execs hated everything the audience loved about it. They only reason they signed it for more seasons was because it's first episode was the highest rated premiere in Fox history. And even then, it was getting better in terms of audience size with every passing season, and yet they still cancelled it after the fourth season. They talk about that on the season 4 commentaries as well. Basically the staff needed confirmation they were getting renewed so they could start working on scripts for season 5, and were told over the phone something like "we'll get back to you in a couple days," and then a full two months later they finally got the confirmation they were cancelled. And just for a bit more context, what brought Futurama back later on was not the Fox Network, it was the Fox Studios, totally different entity within the corp, that approached them about the made-for-DVD movies, and after they were started on those was when Comedy Central got in on the act.
