The character's hair twitching is the result of 2 different objects visually intersecting (clipping). The 3D software has to check that against the objects collision geometry (which is invisible information that tells the software what parts of that object are "solid"). If you do not build an animated character properly.......and Im sure they they didn't in this movie, the software gets confused between frames and freaks out trying to solve where different parts of the object are in 3d space. Hope I explained that properly.

(like instead of using a final production render they exported the scenes with a dev-render or something that actually rendered the collision boxes, and the dynamic hair was interacting with it's own static collision box) Literally zero 3d modeling or CGI experience, but that feels like it'd tie together and explain a lot of the issues

@@robonator2945 You could be right. It's possible the model was created with mesh collision which is only for real time physics like games. If they did that and then imported it into a hair sim that generates it's own collision, you'd have two overlapping collision models being calculated during the render process. Rendering processes take a while to finish and I can see them just hand waving the glitchy hair away after hours of rendering. The animation is already a dumpster fire so, why not!

Turns out there was a leech the size of a grain of rice on his thumb from the river. The situation turned into all of us hysterically laughing, including my little brother. I like that they didn't even go for like... a fairly common easy trope of misunderstanding. In most movies... or let's be honest, in most 10 minute mediocre-to-poor-quality kids *TV* episodes, the good aliens would have sent a message that through some interference in the signal or poor word choice/lack of context/ whatever SOUNDED like a threat making the humans think the aliens were hostile. But through either figuring the true meaning out or somehow unscrambling the signal the kids would find out how to defeat the monsters. But in this case the professor gets a message that makes no sense. He just goes "This makes no sense" and then later AFTER they've both found out how to subdue the monsters AND found out the aliens aren't evil they find out "Oh yeah, we were trying to warn you." but the message NEVER MATTERED because they figured both things out through other means and also never connected the dots.

This movie missed a massive opportunity to call back to the salt laser from the beginning. At the end, they shrink the monsters with salt, but they use packets of peanuts. They could've had Gunto accidentally repair the Salt Laser while playing with it and then using it at the end to beat the baddies. But other than that, of course, this movie is flawless.
