I think dehydration also plays a factor in losing muscles (or at least some form of weight). I've seen videos pertaining to boxing and MMA where the fighter didn't drink for an extended period in order to make weigh in.

I am in horror, I'm not joking. I'm in absolute horror in just seeing the thumbnail. And it's not deviantART fanart this time, this is from the godawful reboot. Just....what have they done to Buttercup!?! Oh my god! I never bothered to ever see the reboot knowing full well they fucked up the PPG but this image, will burn into my nightmares. I'm glad I never watched the reboot show, because I used to enjoy watching the original PPG growing up. I don't think I'll ever see them the same again.

One thing about the reboot that was shown in this review is how week the Powerpuff Girls are. In the original the girls were incredibly powerful. They could take on anything and when they were losing it was to incredibly powerfull villains like the Rowdyruff Boys and Him. In the reboot, the girls are constantly captured by things they should easily get out of or even injured by things that never injured them in the past. In this episode specifically, Blossom and Bubbles were trapped in a giant pet cage when they should've easily been able to break out of it. But no, they had to give some sort of excuse to get Buttercup over being very musclely

I've always found that when the writers for kids shows are more interested in 'appealing' to their audience then actually writing the show, we get stuff like this. They look at what's popular and trendy and shove as much of that into the script as possible so there's no room for anything original or even an actual script. Then of course because of how fast those things move now, even by the time the episodes go out, they're referencing things that are out dated and past their time, well into the cringe zone, which the show further pushes it into.

The villain gallery here was the most annoying part of the show. The old show at least had better themes for each villain giving them substantial personalities that made them unforgettable and dynamic. Any of them separate or together could’ve held an episode all their own and make it exciting. These villains were all over the place like this installment itself like it was still finding its voice and couldn’t make up its mind! I can’t remember half of them or which was supposed to be the best in their heads. And Bliss was one Powerpuff too many! This overinflated train wreck was a failed experiment we didn’t need and even the network couldn’t take seriously given it allowed them to fade into obscurity when it was still supposedly active at the time. The live action installment is really gonna bury this poor franchise. They really need to take back their self respect.

I feel like some (and I do mean some) villains had some potential. Like, the fashionistas In their debut using peer pressure and trends to control townsville. That's actually somewhat cool. The main issue is that the spotlight is so spread out. There are like, aside from mojo, 1-4 episodes featuring each villain in the entire series. And their roles usually boil down to cameos or simply not being a threat. Remember him? That guy who turned townsville into hell on earth just because he can? The only other episode he's in aside from power of four is a godamn guitar match. There is no room for these characters to shine.

Craig McCracken seems to be doing pretty well in his career since he moved on from the Powerpuff Girls. Shows like Wander Over Yonder and Kid Cosmic are both gems. Or, as often happens, she just can't do things anymore because she's too big. Saberspark even pointed out in the video how some people can't drink from a cup they're holding or tie their shoes because they can't bend their arms enough with the muscles in the way. Imagine her being able to punch through the crust of the Earth itself to the mantle, but she keeps losing fights because she can't do things like turn her head to see an incoming punch or bend over to pick things up. That idea of hyperspecialization to the point of detriment makes a much more interesting storyline.

Good thing Danny Antonucci has managed to secure the creative rights for Ed, Edd n Eddy from Cartoon Network. That way, while they are allow to rerun the show, he will NEVER EVER allow a reboot of his magnum opus to ever be made officially. For anyone who wants an experience like OG powerpuff girls, I recommend The UltraViolets. The book series was inspired by the powerpuffs, even with a comedic narrator. The super powered best friend group fights evil mutants and secret agents. It’s a fun book series that I found scratched that pulpy superhero well written girl power itch. There’s a bit more personal drama, but it’s blended well with the action!

The best jokes are the ones that can be watched out of time and out of context. The reboots main problem is it wrote jokes (both verbal and nonverbal) that no one will be able to find funny outside of the specific time and audience that it was made for. Comedy has to work on mutiple levels for it to be successful. One level for the audience and time it was created and the other to have the longevity for those it was not. That is why the old powerpuff girls holds up. Its joke are not defined by a single point in time overall. Anyone at any point can watch it and still get most of what it is going for. The reboot was made for 2016 based off 2016 jokes, humor, and cultural references. Meaning it worked on the first level but because it leaned TOO heavily on level 1 it will never reach level 2 and be funny to those outside of who and when it was made for. They gave the show a "comedy shelf life" with the writing and it's sad because it is the laziest way approach to jokes. Powerpuff girls deserved better.

I'd argue the original show was sometimes also guilty of this, such as with the BeatAlls episode. Basically all of it is a veiled history lesson on the Beatles, something not all people will get. But unlike the reboot, that episode a) was good and b) could pique interest as to where it came from. Twerking and shitty I can haz memes did not and will not.

@@alphadron4073 actually you example further proves my point. The beat alls (beatles) references actually shows how those kinds of jokes can be done well. The Beatles was not a product of the late 90s early 00s so the joke centered around them as one out of time and context. Making a reference to a band from the 60s and it still land for both those familer with the band and not is exactly what they did for the series more times than not but DIDNT do for the reboot.

I can summarize how all of this happened quite succinctly. The people that directed PPG 2016 absolutely hated the original PPG. Same with the people that directed ThunderCats Roar, same with the people that directed Teen Titans Go, etc. This seems to be a new trend in animated shows, reboots directed by people that hated the originals. I don't know why it's a trend, but it is.

But even ignoring that, there was an interview (I believe back in 2016) where the directors themselves said that they do not like the original series.
