one aspect that you and many others forget is the type of football the different teams played. To win games and to win trophies by entertaining the neutrals is the optimal achievement. Ferguson, Jose, Shankly, Paisley, Fagan, Klopp etc never did that. On top of that Ferguson was probably the the most unpolite manager ever. Managers like Busby, Bill Nic, Wenger, Pep and others were of a different breed

I'd add the success he had at St Mirren. He started his football management career at clubs with very limited finances, he had to get the best out of the players he had. Big money signings weren't an option. The SPL is dominated by Celtic and Rangers and Ferguson managed to break their monopoly of Scottish honours.

There was 30 years between Ferguson winning the Cup Winners' Cup with Aberdeen and his last Premier League title with Man United. Oversaw an unfathomable amount of change in the game; on the pitch and off it. Financially, tactically and in the attitudes of players. The greats that are mentioned alongside him excelled in and of their era. Ferguson stayed on top through several. Built three separate great sides at United. Made Aberdeen the best team in the country in an obvious two horse race. Guardiola, Klopp, Mourinho etc. for all their plaudits in the modern game will never be anywhere near him. The only ones that get into the same discussion for me for their achievements are Stein, Busby and Clough.

No hes not, not even in top 5 in my option, but was certainly unique, he came to ManU when managers weren't sacked like today, till mid 90s he shaped solid status in club which cemented his job in club till end, also he was stubborn enough to prove himself and had strong will and workrate to succeed, for that he was unique. After 1999 he become a legend which players has respected, thats about it.... Theres at least 20 better tacticians in last 40yrs than him and Goat is Rinus Michels,he was awarded as Goat so...Learn
