This is another Tuomas Holopainen masterpiece. He only keeps on getting better as his talent and vision matures. Absolutely stunning. This composition is as deep as the Marianas Trench and has more layers than a baklava. It is exquisite. I'm 73 and I am the last man standing in my family. I am the last of the Dorrity line. So this performance runs deep, cuts deep. I understand the feeling of loss, yet I still live with hope and intent. No small thing to live with intent. Floor's voice and this composition is akin to an emotional depth charge to the heart. There is a tenderness and vulnerability there that I have not heard before, and it just breaks you. And her face, good Lord, her beautiful face so expressive and adorned with nothing save her heart and soul just melts me to my core. Look at her gestures, her hands. So tender, so expressive. Her hands are speaking to you as well in a language unto its own. I am not ashamed to say that this staggeringly beautiful composition and the meaning behind it makes me want to cry on Floor’s shoulder. I’m sure she would understand. The poetry of this song is also heart-rendingly exquisite. It is a poem, a prayer, an elegy. Listen to it. Just listen to it. Tuomas’ poetry can easily stand alone. Some of you get it. Some of you don't. I do, and that's all that matters. Kiitos to all of you in Nightwish for delivering such epic and emotional story telling.

This song and its accompanying production demands total attention of the audience to absorb all of its message, impact and significance that targets the mind and heart. Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that Tuomas wrote to celebrate the life of his father that passed away in 2021. For me it empowers us to recognize our connection to nature and one another, ultimately signifying that even in times of uncertainty, despair & sorrow, there is beauty and hope to be found under the glow of the lanternlight. This song is so emotional, that they needed several takes to record Floor's vocals as she started crying over and over again. P.S. Their new album "Yesterwynde" is a sonic masterpiece.

To quote Tuomas Holopainen: "The last song on the album, Lanternlight, might fool you into thinking it's a sad song, but it's actually a love song and ends up on a very positive vibe. If you have somebody who has lived a very happy and a really long life, it's a moment of celebration and not of grief. This is the message we want to send."

There is only one other person that is as brilliant, that being "Sir Elton John!" Just listen to his 1976 Double album, "Blue Moves" It's a double album, and available to listen to both! I would love to hear Floor sing his song "Tonight" Love your channel Sabina! And yes, your eyes did water up...I had tears rolling down my cheeks, which happens every time I listen to "LanternLight!" @stpfs9281Ай бұрын
Oh, I've been waiting for this! You are looking a little bit like a young Floor :) Starting deep and low... Floor has said that her voice changed a bit after Lucy. [This sounds like her solo album, I think Tuomas likes the variety of her singing. Floor said that she chokes up too easily with this song, the band rewinds, during the sessions, to let her recover.] The projector lighting up her face with muted colours. Mmm, the warmth of her voice. “Last night brought the heaviest of snows” That sad piano about to sink below the ice. “Melting the songs of old” A favourite bench, with a view. Reminiscences, love of the souls that have gone before. Tuomas wrote this in memory of his father. The pocket watch to wind... The old style film projector, a “Magic Lantern”. The old flickering movies, like memories. Floor soaring away. Celebration of their lives, rather than mourning. Did you get the Tuomas déjà vu references? “I am the snow on your palm” [Storytime?] The way she uses her hands... “I am the secret stream” [Sagan, Shudder Before The Beautiful, Endlessness?] “Moss beneath your feet” [My Walden?] “I am you who climbed off of my back” [Our Decades in the Sun?] “Petrichor” (with a hint of green) [The smell of fresh rain on grass, Last Ride Of The Day, Song of Myself?] “Timeless” (with a hint of a smile) [Perfume of the Timeless?] “To the meadows I go” [Meadows of Heaven?] Then Troy drifts in, right in the middle of your head, with his soft voice. He made up the word, so his pronunciation, is our guide, _right at the end_ of the album. :) Then Floor off in the echoing distance, lovely. Pope Leo Xlll, who served until his death in 1903 at the age of 93. The restored, stabilised and colourised old movies inspired Tuomas. Yep, what an amazingly created video. A work of Art!
@NickBR57Ай бұрын
Hi Sabina Yes the low bass singers are there in the opening and the closing songs of the album (as is the projector). Almost basso profundo. I have played the album many, many times in each version and this is my favourite song. It has become one of my top 6 NW songs. Watch David K's analysis of the video, for explanation of much of the videography. I encourage anyone to listen to the instrumental and the orchestral versions of the album. This song is just as moving in both versions if you are attuned to music. In fact all the songs reveal greater connections with older NW than you might at first hear from the full version. A similar sentiment is found in the previous track but one, Hiraeth. For info, Tuomas says the standout track is The Children of 'Ata. He also thinks the album is best heard from start to finish in order. I think I agree as it has what in classical music we might refer to as a cyclic architecture. One reviewer said: "Lanternlight" plays the role of concluding tear-jerker, but with a sincerity and finesse that gently reinforce the humanistic thrust of this whole record. Tuomas also says: "The whole theme of the album is time, history, humanism, mortality. And it has a really optimistic vibe going through it all." - I think that time and history element comes out strongly in this song. About Floor's voice: Personally I have always thought (unlike many) that Floor's lowest register, though she says it is most difficult for her, really shines as my favourite part of her range. It is like velvet. But when she first changes to the high register, after all that low register, it really hits and is a "tingle factor" moment for me. Troy is a perfect complement in this song, both in harmony and in his lead vocal at the end . Just a gorgeous, beautiful, heartrending song. This song is a love song to our forefathers - Tuomas started writing the album in Jan 2021 and his father died 6 Feb only a few short weeks later. This song is latgely inspired by that but the whole album is about our links to the past. So this one is full of references to past albums and other songs on this album. Its sbout all our ancestors still being with us: atoms and molecules recycled into the streams, the trees, the moss under your feet, the pebbles, the oceans In other words, the sort of lyricism I only find in Tuomas and in Jackson Browne.

When I first heard this song, it hit me like a brick, and when I first saw the video, it hit me like a wrecking ball! For me, the song symbolizes the farewell of a dying person from their loved ones. (The often-quoted "seeing life pass you by" when you die is symbolized for me by the film scenes in the background, the snapping film reel then the moment of death) Yes, the song sounds sad, but it is full of love. A loving greeting to those left behind, they should not mourn, but be happy that you had a fulfilling life, or maybe just that the suffering has come to an end. And the reminder that even after death, something of you always remains behind (I am the snowflake in your hand, etc.) and, if there is such a thing, you simply move forward on the path until we all follow. So, at least for me, this song is a farewell, a hug, a declaration of love for life, sad, yet hopeful and full of joy... even if it seems hard to fit together, at least that's how it seems to me. And, if I die, this song is immediately on the list of songs I would like to have played at my funeral... (before that it was Our Decades in the Sun or Dead Boys Poem)

So many different emotions it evokes. But what I remember most is the END. What I hear in this album is saying goodbye. Is it from the Band? I hope not. “An Ocean of Strange Islands” takes me on a journey from Tuomas. 2nd track is about a ship without a crew on a one-way trip. 3rd track is about "afterlife will arrive". and also "In the end, to the stars". In every track I find references to the ending with the last track "Lanternlight" as the big finale. I hope they still make music together in the future. I cant without them

Good video, once again Floor and Nightwish know how to make emotional music, that's why they are my favorites. And the surprise, you never know what kind of song will come and how it will change when you listen to it. Tuomas is in a class of his own as a composer. You probably know, but there is also an "orchestral" version of NW's latest album. Now next summer (August 2025) in the city of Tampere, Finland, there will be a concert based on it! The performers will be the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tampere Opera Choir (80 members, if I understand correctly) and a children's choir assembled for the occasion. Actually, two concerts on consecutive days. Tickets will go on sale next week.

Yes, this is a long comment, and I don't care what anyone says about that. 😁 Well, I just might have found a new favourite artist to go with the others. I love the lyrics and the perfection in the transitions in the music throughout, making it even better. For me, it started out like there was almost the deepest of sadness from the heart and something of no hope, then the transition into a more positive yet still mellow and powerful feeling, only to increase further into that of hope beyond the grasp of the feelings such as sadness and maybe even a bit of fear. Her way of singing for me stirs emotions like other artists such as James Blunt, Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli/Matteo Bocelli, and Chris Martin (Coldplay) but more specifically, I really love their song Daddy because it is just so sad but beautiful, and the lack of instruments and the mellow tune just adds to the deep feelings.

When I’m asked what is my favourite music and I reply “metal” often the comments are along the lines of “oh, all that screaming and growling”. When I tell them it has some of the most beautiful songs I get the usual strange looks. But do they ever take time to listen to it? Nope! This is the first song I would play to them but I doubt if they would even attempt to listen to it as they have misplaced preconceptions of metal. 😕

What a great song,thanks for this.Next song I would like you to react,is my personal favorite from this album.It's called 'Something Whispered Follow Me'.The last two minutes of that song,you can hear something else in Floor's voice,it's something I've never heard before,and it's brilliant.Btw,there's only audio version of that song.

Your next Nightwish song from their latest album should be _An Ocean of Strange Islands_ - it's nine and a half minutes, showcasing every member of the band. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2fMqKWAn9-ef7s

For next song .... the entire album is great. I really like " Something Whispered Follow Me". But "Spider Silk" is great. "The Children of Ata" is super cool. " The Weave" is fantastic. I bet a lot of people will recommend " SWAY" which is awesome as well, but I feel it is in the same vein as "Lanternlight" . It doesn't sound the same. It's just another vocal focused song, with minimal instruments.
