Six weeks post partum and Floor was barely able to stand. She invited the guys to her home studio and after each song she rested and fed her baby. The boys would mix the music. And then repeat the process, all in one take. That woman is something else. Floor simply explained it as "my body just said, yes, I know how to do this, let's go!" Singing is a second nature for her.

The male vocalist is Troy Donockley, Nightwish's multi-instrumentalist and backing vocalist. He plays approx 12 different instruments, including the Uilleann pipes, high and low whistles, guitar, E-bow, Bouzouki, Piano/Keys etc. He's been with the band since 2007, firstly as a sessions musician and then, along with Floor, in 2013 was inaugurated as a full time member. He is from Cumbria in northwest England

Simply the most beautiful song I've ever heard! Tuomas wrote this for his Father following his passing in 2021. He has stated that its not really a sad song but rather a tribute to and a celebration of a life well lived, of those who lit the way ahead for us. No one ive ever heard can convey emotion as Floor does, she is simply extraordinary 🤘
@572BtriodeАй бұрын
To quote Tuomas Holopainen: "The last song on the album, Lanternlight, might fool you into thinking it's a sad song, but it's actually a love song and ends up on a very positive vibe. If you have somebody who has lived a very happy and a really long life, it's a moment of celebration and not of grief. This is the message we want to send." Floor's emotion. . . . . . . . . . I understand that Floor had a job to do this song and was in tears several times, I think some are left in after or about the last "lantern light".
@elvwoodАй бұрын
Technically it's bittersweet - a mixture of happy and sad elements - but it's almost the opposite of how that word is usually used since happiness is the predominant emotion to come out of it.

Lanternlight is breathtakingly gorgeous ❣️ Not able to listen to this with dry eyes, it goes straight to your soul. It’s so fragile and strong at the same time. What a gorgeous piece of music composed by Tuomas and so emotionally sung by Floor. Tuomas said that Lanternlight is a song of love to celebrate live of the people that passed. In this case mainly his dad. My favorite song from the new album followed by An Ocean of Strange Islands.

My personal song of the year 2024. Top 3 in my NW rating. Whatever guard you have up, when Floor's voice comes in she cut's thru it like a fresh sharpened butcher knife and get's you right into your soul and while your bleeding out you feel satisfied. When Floor goes into her emotional mode you can sleep in the finnish winter outside in the woods and still be warmed by her voice and feel comfortable. Much Love from Germany to you and your passionate reactions!

This is the last song of the new album, concluding the trilogy that basically covers all of life from the cell, DNA, evolution, to birth & death, & all of our connections to everything in the universe. Tuomas wrote this song in 2021 to address our connections even in death, with the loss of his father. Troy, of the Uillean pipes, & believe that is probably him playing the whistle at the end, harmonizes beautifully with Floor. Have you ever done, “How’s the Heart”, an acoustic piece with just him playing the guitar, & harmonizing with her, the two just sitting in chairs. It’s amazing to hear the level Floor can sing just sitting! Anyway hoping you do the rest of this magnificent album! especially “An Ocean of Strange Islands”! That for sure will give you something you haven’t heard her do to analyze, if you can keep up with her, LOL!! FYI: The Charismatic Voice did an hour interview with Floor in the last few weeks, where they really get into this album, & voice technique!!! She recorded her part to the album only 6 weeks after giving birth to her new baby daughter at 43! The woman is awesome!!

Like you, I adore Floor’s low register. Yes she can belt out those high notes and sing operatic and it’s simply amazing but in this register it’s like getting wrapped up in a warm blanket. This is one of the most beautiful songs written in recent memory. ❤ Tuomas is very one of my favourite contemporary composers. In that change Tuomas goes from an arpeggiated piano part to more full chords and melody and uses the strings, particularly the cellos, to provide a stable rhythm. In the last vocal section where Troy sings the first line Toumas chooses to have Floor’s line sound like it’s in the distance. Clever writing.

Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that Tuomas wrote to celebrate the life of his father that passed away in 2021. For me it empowers us to recognize our connection to nature and one another, ultimately signifying that even in times of uncertainty, despair & sorrow, there is beauty and hope to be found under the glow of the lanternlight. This song is so emotional, that they needed several takes to record Floor's vocals as she started crying over and over again. P.S. Their new album "Yesterwynde" is a sonic masterpiece.

So beautiful 🤍 Loved watching your appreciation of this very special musical art. A dedication to Tuomas Holopainen’s father, Pentti Holopainen who passed away in 2021. Lanternlight is the last song on this album & The Triology of the last 3 albums. Listen to this album Yesterwynde from beginning to end in order of the track listing. (600 music tracks have been mixed). Life, timelessness, petrichor, weave, evocative lyrics that interconnected elements throughout this album Yesterwynde. If you Google a CTV News article and watch their video which sums up Petrichor - you’ will see all the Easter Eggs connecting through the Yesterwynde album songs - (particularly Perfume of the Timeless). What an epic listening journey & life journey! Enjoy these talented musicians. ✨

Starting deep and low... [This sounds like her solo album, I think Tuomas likes the variety of her singing. Floor said that she chokes up too easily with this song, the band rewinds, during the sessions, to let her recover.] Mmm, the warmth of her voice. So sultry. “Last night brought the heaviest of snows” That sad piano about to sink below the ice. “Melting the songs of old” A favourite bench, with a view. Reminiscences, love of the souls that have gone before. Tuomas wrote this in memory of his father. The pocket watch to wind... The old style film projector, a “Magic Lantern”. The old flickering movies, like memories. Floor soaring away. Celebration of their lives, rather than mourning. Did you get the Tuomas déjà vu references? “I am the snow on your palm” [Storytime?] Yep, The Queen! The way she uses her hands... “I am the secret stream” [Sagan, Shudder Before The Beautiful, Endlessness?] “Moss beneath your feet” [My Walden?] The screen goes green, love the cinematography! “I am you who climbed off of my back” [Our Decades in the Sun?] “Petrichor” (with a hint of green) [The smell of fresh rain on grass, Last Ride Of The Day, Song of Myself?] “Timeless” (with a hint of a smile) [Perfume of the Timeless?] “To the meadows I go” [Meadows of Heaven?] Then Troy drifts in, right in the middle of your head, with his soft voice. He made up the word, so his pronunciation, is our guide, _right at the end_ of the album. :) Floor echoing in the distance, so haunting. Her voice _is_ an instrument. The various textures. Pope Leo Xlll, who served until his death in 1903 at the age of 93. The restored, stabilised and colourised old movies inspired Tuomas.

its Troy who is singing the male part. Now the thing with Troy is that he sounds always like a 'bard'. This means it really depends if his voice fits or not. Superficially it always sounds nice but with a bit more focus on details in some cases one really missed the more edgy/sharper voice of Marco (who also has more variety in singing while Troy has more instrumental variety). Thats also why Troy cannot really substitute Marco in general. In this song Troys voice fits! ...
