This was good! Nice flying. As someone who primarily flies the Sabre the mig 19's are easily the most fun. Enigma has really put the mig 19 on a pedestal given the overlord bot and their thrust and blue having the aim 9b. But the 19 is a 1 trick pony against the Saber. Its a good trick and dangerous, but the sabers better nose authority, roll and awesome airbrake you can almost always reset the fight if you started in a bad spot....or happily turn inside there circle 100 knots slower while their burner chews through all their fuel.....good luck gunning a good mig pilot but their fighting their fuel and completely out of the fight the moment they are low.

They sometimes seem to pull insane amounts of bullshit out of their arse. That Mirage at the start was even flaring 😅 Definitely seen them do some really crazy things on some shots, then on others neither will track at all even with solid tone.

Great Flying! I've been flying the mig 19 myself lately. I think you actually could rearm at that roadbase cause it was inside red lines. you just have to make sure you land at the side with the big red arrow ( the other side is for the blue aircraft). The rearming area is designated by the tires with the red flags inside the buildings. I've rearmed at roadbases on the frontline before.

I fly the Mig-19 and I've merged over and over again without seeing the bandit. I've only seen them when they leave a contrail. I guess it takes practice or something.

It took me a while, the hardest part was knowing just how stupidly small the thing I was trying to see was going to be, DCS is really bad for giving you a meaningful sense of scale, objects are basically one pixel in size until they’re not so you’re probably expecting a much larger object to jump out at you and missing the wood for the trees - I know because I had the exact same problem. I also used to think “merge” meant I was literally passing them that second but on Enigma’s it’s around 5km so you still have a good 30 seconds or so to have a good look - to help, you want to be close to their altitude and nearer the floor, when they’re silhouetted against the ground it can be harder to pick them out, I tend to zoom out more than in to increase field of view and just try to hold my head still and try to pick up on movement. Smoke trails are often easier to catch initially because of the distortion they cause being several times larger than the aircraft. If I haven’t seen them after 20 seconds I’ll ask Overlord for a bogey dope to get an updated bearing and hopefully find them based on that. If all else fails, in the 19 you can just start flat turning and look behind you because nothing will be able to keep up and a lot will have to line up well for them to just be able to missile you or something before you catch a glimpse. Lowering your resolution will make pixels larger, so contacts are easier to see, for me this was probably the biggest improvement, and it comes tied with higher fps which helps a lot too.

@@Bullet4MyEnemy Thanks for your reply and useful tips. I'm currently running 3840X2160 on a 32 in monitor. I always thought that higher resolution is always better in combat sims. I'm going to lower my resolution and see if it helps. Thanks again.

In the real world of course, the R-3S was nearly useless, and couldn’t track a target pulling more than 3G, and to even achieve lock on a target, the target’s heat-generating stern needed to be within a circle of no more than 3 degrees off of the missile’s boresight.

I think the 21 is probably better in most cases, everything that isn’t an attacker can outrun the 19, and if you’re too violent with the controls it can fall to pieces. On Syria especially where better missiles are allowed, the 19 really suffers with no flares and only super shitty missiles of its own. Performance wise at lower speeds it’s an absolute beast though, the Viper of Cold War fighters.
