Saint Margaret Mary, The Apostle of the Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Born: July 22, 1647, Verosvres, France, died: October 17, 1690, Paray-le-Monial, France.
A French Catholic Visitation nun and mystic who promoted devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in its modern form. A devotion of contemplative spiritual piety, venerated by the faithful on the First Friday of nine consecutive months.
Sacred Heart of Jesus (Latin: Cor Jesu Sacratissimum) is depicted in art with a heart, crown of thorns, pierced by spear and flames around it, reminding the faithful of Jesus's Divine Love. The sorrowful Jesus points with His wounded hands to His Sacred Heart, which has consumed itself for men, receiving little affection in return.

Taught that devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is “the summary of our religion.”
Pope Pius XII wrote in his encyclical on the Sacred Heart, “Consequently, the honor paid to the Sacred Heart is such as to raise it to the rank-so far as external practice is concerned-of the highest expression of Christian piety. For this is the religion of Jesus which is centered on the Mediator who is man and God, and in such a way that we cannot reach the Heart of God, save through the Heart of Christ.”
The Twelve Promises of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, for those who practice devotion to His Sacred Heart I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life.
1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life.
2. I will establish peace in their families.
3. I will console them in all their troubles.
4. They shall find in My Heart an assured refuge during life and especially at the hour of their death.
5. I will pour abundant blessings on all their undertakings.
6. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source of an infinite ocean of mercy.
7. Tepid souls shall become fervent.
8. Fervent souls shall speedily rise to great perfection.
9. I will bless the homes where an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored.
10. I will give to priests the power of touching the most hardened hearts.
11. Those who propagate this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced.
12. The all-powerful love of My Heart will grant to all those who shall receive Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under my displeasure, nor without receiving their Sacraments; My heart shall be their assured refuge at that last hour.
The Sacred Heart overflows with merciful love for us, and we are to overflow with love to others. This devotion calls for reparation of sin, and to a deeper understanding of His infinite love, compassion, mercy and grace.
