I blame it on pick-up artistry and bizarre dating advice online - if you act 'confident and dominant', these female creatures will do whatever you say! Then they find out that in the real world, it doesn't work.

I feel like these people aren't socially awkward but social unaware/inept. Socially awkward people are hyper aware of social constructs/rules and are overwhelmed/made nervous by them. Socially unaware/inept people do not know/understand those rules and constructs and that's why they have the ability to be completely confident in their awkwardness and double down. They don't know what they're doing is weird/awkward and/or they don't know they're supposed to care (and thus not do the weird thing they're doing).

Some people know they can get away with bad behavior and some people are autistic or have similar traits. I'm autistic and I never did anything like ask to be in charge of a bunch of people at Tesla, but like when people said "BE BOLD! BE UNEXPECTED! FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT!" i was like "ok" and it didn't go well. Like people give really awful advice about "success" and a lot of us take it seriously, plus we don't necessarily have the same background understanding to be able to follow good advice anyway. Like we often get a different message from a statement than neurotypical people would I'm gonna be honest, usually the times I was most humiliated was because I took someone seriously and did what I thought they were saying I should do (not that it's their fault, but there's a communication breakdown at best) The Tesla dude reads very autistic and/or mentally ill to me. Whether he's autistic or not (whether he's gifted or not), he's describing a really autistic experience of having immense skill in an area that would benefit a lot of people, but not even being able to get a job because people don't like you or you're read as creepy or whatever. (Sometimes people are creepy for sure but sometimes it's just "i don't like how you make eye contact")

People should SERIOUSLY stop with these super public out in the open proposals, especially if they're not 1 million percent sure the person is going to say yes. For both parties. Like, being proposed to is already a incredibly big gesture. No one needs a crowd chanting around them to say yes or anything else. And on top of that, should they say no, the other person is left there not only sad but incredibly embarrassed. Just don't do it. Worst part is the amount of flack you see people get in comments of videos like that for saying no like they're all of a sudden the villain. I promise you, as nice as grandiose things like that are, if someone is truly in love with you and wants to spend the rest of their life with you, it doesn't matter how you propose as long as you do it.

Your last line there is so true. My husband proposed to me over the phone, while he was in India & myself in the US. He did it bc I was crying, going through such a hard time. Life felt like it was falling apart around me & I was clearly struggling. 😭🥺 So he popped the question. I was surprised, but it meant SO much to me. I knew I wanted to marry him ASAP, already. It didn't matter *how* he proposed, as long as he did so. I was & am still madly in love with him. He told me that he had obviously planned to do it in person, but knew I needed some positivity & hope, right then. I frickin love him. 8 years together, 5 years married. ❤🥰👰💍🤵💒

I totally agree, and I think that even for those who know 1,000,000% that the answer to the question is yes, even then it’s still super important to consider your S/O and how receptive they are to social situations. If I had proposed to my fiancée in public like that, she would have undoubtedly had a major panic attack and a very special moment of our lives would have been completely ruined by a lack of awareness and care on my part. To be fair, if you’re aware that your partner would be against a public proposal and you do it anyways? It might be good to reevaluate before putting the ring on…

I’ve heard of stories where toxic partners basically guilted their SO’s into accepting their proposals by doing them publically or at family gatherings. Obviously it depends on relationship to relationship and how much the partners involved have talked abt proposals but i feel like the best option for both parties (esp in a situation where one isn’t sure abt the other’s response) tends to be a private proposal.

Public proposals have always rubbed me the wrong way, especially when the person being proposed to runs away/rejects them and is painted as the bad guy. It just feels so controlling and manipulative in a way? Like trying to shame the person into saying yes because if they don't *they'll* be the bad guy, not the proposer. I know that not all public proposals are done by someone toxic but it feels like a lot of them are, and if it ever happens to me unexpectedly I would feel absolutely humiliated (especially if there was little to not talk about engagement to begin with).

I personally do not feel bad for public proposals going wrong. Whether they know it or not, the person proposing is trying use the pressure of the crowd/public into making the other person say yes in order to avoid this embarrassment. This can only work if they had an agreed upon plan of getting married before the proposal, meaning that the proposal is kind of just a formal 'presenting of the ring'. But a surprise public proposal, just dropping the idea of marriage, is just gross and not romantic at all. Good for the people who were strong enough to walk away. edit: the one where she just walked away and didn't even see him proposing is fucking hilarious. literally everything went wrong why did he not tell anyone and why did no one tell her, did NO ONE see him?

The Disney world fail was rough. I'd love to know how you walk off knowing your significant other is there with you not even checking to see where they are before just leaving the area. I've been married to my wife for 6 years and if we are together somewhere there's exactly a zero percent chance I don't have eyes on her basically at all times. I always know exactly where she is, She's my favorite person in the world. Walking off and leaving them behind is wild, I'd question even marrying her after that. She has zero concern what-so-ever
