Great video! I'm 16 measured from hip to knee, and I can fit in a 16,5 inch seat in jump saddles but in dressage I need 17. However, my problem is that my foot is the only thing reaching below the flaps of the saddle, so I should have a saddle for a pony rider to fit my length of leg, but my bum can't fit in a 16 inch. It is super frustrating as I can't afford to get a special saddle, I need to buy used. I love dressage, but it frustrates me when I can't reach the horse.

as far as i know you can let the saddle maker adjust the flaps to your needs of a fitting used saddle. all you need to do is ask around to find someone who's willing to do that

@@rijmee9453 None of the saddle brands that are sold here an do that. If you want special flaps, you have to buy a new saddle. Also, very old post to comment on...

Could you tell me what point on your but did she measure from I took a measurement from where my hip socket was approx to the point of knee . The measurement was nineteen inches. I do feel comfortable in a seventeen inch depending on the make. Does this sound in the ballpark

Great information! Do also find that your saddle needs change as your position changes/improves? I have one suoer high withered horse and one Roly poly bug... they each have the same saddle made to fit them... but I find on the rounder horse I struggle more with my leg position... he is also my lazier horse... just wondering if I should try a different type? 🤔 thanks again for sharing these great videos!

Same issue I'm riding in a saddle which was fine on my high withered narrow horse but not on my current horse who is really wide. It kept shifting on his back and the large covered knee rolls pushed my legs even further apart which was really uncomfortable and turned my knees out. After endless shimming and reflocking I switched to the Aviar and wow its minimal, closer contact design make him feel a lot skinnier plus it's glued to his back so it's much easier to keep my balance and my leg on. I need to ride in it a few more times to decide but my horse seems less grumpy 👍🏻

So timely for me! I have been told by several people that my saddle is working against me so I have been looking at saddles. Like you, Amelia, I have super long (as one clinician told me "freakishly long") legs. Inseam is 36! My hip to knee measurement is 21, but I am very thin. Which Custom Saddle do you ride in? I will call Sarah, as she does service our Carmel Valley area. Just want to make sure she has correct saddles to fit me and my Dutch Warmblood (16-1 hands).

This is a huge topic! i would recommend not to "try" saddles without a pro or professional saddler to guide you! Great suggestion though!

Hi Amelia!! I have been looking into Aviar saddles. But i don't know anyone personally that has any Aviar saddles so i have one question. Does the high thigh block stop you from doing a posting trot? I just don't want to feel "stuck in the saddle". Thank you so much!!

Posting the trot is just fine in my saddle! Your Aviar fitter will be able to help you find the right knee block design so that they won't get in your way!

My 18 inch Kieffer Dressage Saddle is causing me pain in my back, and I already have a slight muscular disability.. My hip to knee measurement is around 18 inches. I ride different horses at a therapeutic horse riding center where I take lessons. What size of a dressage saddle do I need?

It's hard to say without seeing you. My recommendation would be to make sure it fits your horse first, and to enlist the help of a professional saddle fitter in your area. :)
