I think if I ever mined anything, "Ouch, that was my toe", would be said often. So impressed by how you will go almost anywhere in search of "all the beautiful rocks". Thank you for taking me along.

If you go to rainbow Creek near the parking area at Mount Baker Hot Springs you can find some beautiful blue agates.

Wow in my back yard as well... We are coming to see your area in September. There is white pet wood on the east side of the road and red pet wood on the west side of the road. Have fun digging. Put in a container with Dawn dish soap and shake to remove the white sediment that is on the pet wood, or soak in vinegar. Also the pet wood up there has a different sound when hitting it with the hammer. Let me know if you would like to get together for rockhounding in my area. Also have a nice place for carnelian, thunder eggs and agates.

Thanks for the offer, Christine! I want to go back to Saddle Mountain with Jim, as he really is the digger of the bunch.

That was fun kate. The stuff you got out of the pile was beautiful and far easier than digging it out of the ground! You did good! Next time, take Jared and he can show you all those locations. Gorgeous finds though!

There's nice petrified wood over there, and limb casts too. I got lost my first time. I'd say it is quite different from what you are used to finding on the Yellowstone. I found my favorite piece of pet wood there. Thanks so much for sharing your long excursion to Saddle Mountain.

LOL, going in, I somehow came in the back way and ended up by the nearby river. I called the BLM office, and they insisted there was no river - I was so confused! But I figured it out eventually.

As a former prospector I enjoy seeing your efforts and knowthe JOY and Pains involved. I have Put over 3 ounces of Placer gold into the US economy ! Arizona has lots of petrified material as well as basalts and many other minerals and meteorites too ! I was awestruck when I was on a trail and saw several pieces of petrified Bark from ancient evergreens laying in peoples tracks...walked over for how long ?
@KatyDidRocks10 ай бұрын
Thanks! I must say, I am always humbled with the knowledge that the rocks are so ancient. I feel like a speck on the planet. :)

Where the road splits ( you would have taken the rt. Side), the road up & to the left, under the tower, is where I find all my tumbling material. It looks more like wood, frozen in time.

Ahhh...you're back in my neck of the woods!! I never leave Saddle Mountain without finding something amazing. I tend to avoid hounding there when the weather gets warm though...don't want to run into any rattlers or scorpions!! The petrified wood you find there is much different than what I've found on the Yellowstone in Forsyth, definitely a different type of hounding, so it's a bummer Jared wasn't able to show you the ropes. Glad you were able to explore one of our states rockhounding treasures and hope you had fun! :)

Hi Kate At 11:02 on your video the olive colored rock looks like a type of opal I’ve seen in other videos. Did you learn what it is?
@KatyDidRocks2 жыл бұрын
It is common opal - fairly brittle, very pretty. :)

Easiest way to get good stuff is to just dig in the soft areas, it's just sitting inches under the surface in the rite spots
