Great job on the saddle and all your other videos. Awesome quality and very information filled without being slow. Noticed you didn't chisel your line before cutting, do you ever have any problems with tear out?

Thank you, glad you like the videos. We use a Olfa knife to score the scribe/cut lines to prevent breakout. We find this to be smoother and faster than a chisel. We discuss this in more detail in our ‘How to cut a straight line log talk’: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmG0fZp7br6En68 Thanks!

Hi Dave, do you have a course of Saddle Notch ? - I only found Dovetail version in your website.

Hi, we currently run an in-person (on-site) saddle notch course in Golden BC. You’ll find it on the www.bclogschool.com site under courses menu, on-site… We offer a dovetail online program and are in the early stages of producing a saddle notch online. Thanks for inquiring. Hope you can make it to Golden for a course!

John M. Thanks for the inquiry. Regular chainsaw is our preferred tool for this job.

Dave Great video! Was wondering what you do for bar oil? How does the oil affect different finishes on the logs when staining and finishing?? Would be great to see you and the family again out here in the West Kootenays? Come and check out our new acreage!!! 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲Hope you’re all well Johnny Raw

Hi Johnny great to hear from you! We use clear bar oil, (not red) and keep our oiler turned down. By the time the logs receive final stain any bar oil doesn’t seem to be an issue... Hope you guys are all doing great! See you soon...😉

Why did you need a saddle notch? In my eye notch without saddle is more beautiful.

Wow! I’d be smiling like that too if I pulled off that cut using only a chainsaw and no chisels…
